Probably but RW seems to be the targeted need. Which it is, but I don't want to wait another 3 years to see -
Sabres Move Up to 34, Select John Jason Peterka
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Guess it would have been too ridiculous to just make a trade for Laine................ Despite all the talk it's looking like they're just trying desperately for need and I'm thinking we are basically going with no scouting staff. I'm thinking no tv package this year. -

their Price window is closing. -
I think Ottawa won the first round. They're rebuilding right.

Hmm. like the rest of you, not what i expected. Button likes him and I usually disagree with Button so......... IDK, I like size but he's not all that big, just bigger than Rossi. It's interesting that his ranking varied wildly from 7 to 20 or so. Really, I have no idea. I was surprised Raymond went so high. I was pretty sure we;d end up picking him at 8. Wait and see I guess.

Wayne Simmonds Given Permission To Leave
PerreaultForever replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
I would have kept him for Lazar type money. Just hope we find grit elsewhere then. -
5 years from now the redraft will have Sanderson in the top 2 or 3. Byfield will be better than LaFreniere.

Don't see the point in running this in prime time when it's a covid remote show. They should have just started in the morning, run the whole thing and left the evening for the talking heads to analyze who won and lost. I'm going to wait until it's all over probably. Free agency right after is way more interesting.

Sabres sign Tage Thompson to 3 year 1.4 AAV Extension
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
It was simply a situation where JBot showed his inexperience. He'd moved out high end players from the old regime and had to start adding. Carolina knew they wouldn't be able to sign him so got him cheap but letting the negotiations go on past the trade deadline is where he blew it. What did he really think Skinner wasn't going to hold him hostage at that point? Skinner doesn't sign by deadline you move him and get back what you can and then sign him later for a more reasonable amount if nobody else overpays or you sign somebody else with the money you saved. JBot gave Skinner all the leverage and he used it. I don't begrudge Skinner getting what he can, it's a business, but I think as fans we can and should demand maximum effort from him every night since he got maximum money. JBot blew all his big deals. Didn't trade Kane when Kane was on a roll and got (probably) less at the deadline than he could have earlier. Tried to fill out a weak roster with mid value multi pack for ROR and totally got hosed. Got nothing for Lehner (a debatable one not worth re-exploring) and chose the wrong goalie to add to the roster AND broke the bank mishandling Skinner negotiations. Really didn't do a lot right when you think about it. -

Who should the Sabres target for a veteran defensemen?
PerreaultForever replied to SHAAAUGHT!!!'s topic in The Aud Club
That's true, but what I'm saying is I don't see how other teams would want to take him on for their caps. His contract situation will not be attractive to others .Unless of course he is willing to sign for a much lower number than you'd expect. The same mathematics apply to Reinhart and RFAs on other teams too. If their agents want business as usual contracts they might find themselves sitting out. Montour has less pull, but I am seriously worried about Reinhart pulling a similar hold him hostage move on Adams as Skinner did on JBot to get more than his worth in this climate, and if he is doing that, teams aren't going to line up to grab him unless they have an RFA of their own that's a problem. It'll be interesting to see what happens with UFAs too. I wouldn't want to be a guy like Torey Krug right now. You're coming into your peak payday moment and you want money and term and which team has that money or is going to do that for anybody right now? This free agency period I suspect will be very different from previous ones. -
Who should the Sabres target for a veteran defensemen?
PerreaultForever replied to SHAAAUGHT!!!'s topic in The Aud Club
Keep in mind none of these guys are Adams' guys so anybody could be traded. You know JBot was going to stand by his moves (Miller, Montour, etc.) but Adams could easily move them all. I just don't think there's a market for Montour out there. By the numbers/process he's going to command a salary level above what he's actually worth and in this climate and cap league situation nobody's going to pay that so why trade for him? Only way he moves is in a package deal. Having said that, while I don't think our D is as solid as some do, I do agree it's not the number one priority. We need forwards of all types. -
Andrew Oglevie Signs Two Year Deal with Sabres
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I don't disagree on that, we just differ on the likelihood of them stepping up. Generally with prospects that you get excited over you see an aspect of their play that impresses you (like Pekar's tenacity for an example). Or they do some things really well but have a weakness they need to improve on (like Tage can skate and shoot but he needs to get physical) . Over time they fix that problem or they just don't make it. The 2 guys we are discussing here have just looked ok but nothing stands out and their time is running out. So really, we just disagree on their potential. -

I wonder if a lot of Europeans who get bought out or are FAs will just choose to stay in Europe for a year rather than move their families around in this covid world. I'm betting quite a few. -
10-1 Rask would retire before coming here. If he wouldn't play bubble hockey no way is he going to do a season here for that final year on his contract. There's almost too many goalies free or in play this off season. It's likely going to look like musical goalies going back and forth and I wonder if sabres are even looking for one. We are, but are they?

Andrew Oglevie Signs Two Year Deal with Sabres
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I got it. You're a believer in them but, did they get substantially better last year in Rochester than they were, cause I never heard about that. They were both here last year, and neither was an NHL player so your argument has to be based on them somehow being better and I just don't see that. -
Andrew Oglevie Signs Two Year Deal with Sabres
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
No, no they don't. They get contributions from guys who play as good as you wish those two could play. I have nothing against Smith or Oglevie but to this point in time I've not seen a thing which makes me think they can be NHLers. You're saying we could see them on the 4th line. So you're suggesting we'd be going from Girgensens-Larsson-Okposo to Smith Oglivie and (?) Lazar and you seriously think we'd be better? Come on, that's silly. -

2020 Draft Rankings Not Soon Enough...
PerreaultForever replied to North Buffalo's topic in The Aud Club
I don't disagree with this, I'm just saying I'd prefer some more size, so if there is a choice between 2 guys fairly equal in value I'd go with the bigger one. For the stat analytic view I guess size would be weighted more among my variables that I input into the algorithm. -
I read that there was an offer but don't remember where and not going to hunt for it. I have also read (although this one is possibly less absolute) that the Bruins also made an offer involving picks Carlo and DeBrusk but it was nowhere close enough and was also dependent on Krejci waiving his no trade so it could be a bunch of hooey. You have to think that IF (stress IF) the Sabres were even remotely considering moving him for a reboot this would be the time to do it. The next season could be a lost year and dodgy at best so its a good reboot moment IF you had a desire to cut costs totally and go that way. Eichel's no trade also comes in 2022 so right now they control things and he is at maximum trade value after last year. Fan anger and time to get over it would be best served now, rather than when things are back to normal . It's possible, that's all I'm saying. Not probable, possible.

I could see a few teams that might take a chance on him at the right price, but he's likely done. -
and they said Gretzky would never leave Edmonton................ Nothing is 'delusional" . Is it likely no, is it possible always. Rangers made an offer, Adams said no, that likely happened. But Adams also said he's not "shopping" Eichel. Doesn't mean with the right offer it couldn't happen.
-
well that's over. Now do we start speculating on which ex Sabre gets to lift the cup for another team next year or is it too soon? (I liked Bogo, good for him)
-
There is absolutely no way to know the truth on the whole thing. If - stress IF - Jack did ask for a trade they may have agreed to keep it quiet to facilitate best value. Or they are simply considering offers for a maybe if the offers are good enough. Maybe Jack said we have to spend big in free agency and get better now or I will want out next year and so they're looking at offers now since they don't want to spend and know they likely won't be good next year. Maybe the owner's have decided 50 years over the best plan moving forward is the cheapest one and a complete reboot (again) there is simply no way to know BUT, I agree that McKenzie rarely talks total BS so it means in the least the Rangers have kicked the tires and thrown out some sort of offer (likely involving that first they lucked into). Whether Adams has ANY interest, who can say and if he's smart he will say Eichel is not being traded period, while privately taking phone calls. I don't want to trade Eichel, but I do remember Quebec/Colorado won the deal for Lindros so if the deal is sweet enough why not. IFF Eichel was traded I think I'd also want Reinhart, Skinner and most veterans gone too. Full start over if at all. Pointless if you just ditch your top player to save money. Better a full cultural and personnel reboot IFF you went that way.
