I'm 61 and not so sure about that. At least when we hit the bottom before we had the star player coming in to give us optimism for moving forward. Now? People arguing over whether Lazar can replace Larsson as if it's important when neither should be overly relevant. I mean Larsson was fine, but he's a 4th line player and Lazar barely deserves a roster spot and wouldn't have one on a good team. The bar is really really low.

Sabres could be targeting Toffoli, Fast and Korpisalo
PerreaultForever replied to The Jokeman's topic in The Aud Club
people have to get realistic about Cozens. I'm pretty sure he will be a good player but he needs to be developed properly. Throwing him in like the new savior is what they did with Mitts and that didn't go so well did it? Cozens is better, but lets not destroy this one with unrealistic expectations. -
This narrative of being very close has been going on for quite a while and yet they don't ever make that leap. Remember when the prospect cupboard was supposedly stocked full? They add and subtract but don't get better.

It's going to be a lot like real estate sales this year. The agents will start with small increases over last year's prices but with the cap etc. they won't get those offers this time so they'll start with the price reductions and the good GMs will grab the right moments to pounce. Prices will fall though, it's mostly a buyer's market.

Can't believe Minnesota gave Talbot more than Khudobin got from Dallas. If I was a hockey player I'd hire whoever his agent is. Crazy.

Calgary did need a goalie but that's a lot given the Lehner deal earlier. Right now, this version, Lehner's better. But if you don't care about the money, Calgary is now a better team for sure.

Zemgus Girgensons signs 3 Year 2.2 M AAV Deal With Sabres
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
line 3 is a sure fire ticket to last place. It's too much money for Zemgus. I don't hate him, but he's not much better than Lazar and imo should be getting around 1.5 not 2.2 -
I could see the Flyers going for him. Not sure about Bruins, not really what they need. He'd fit there though, I could see that. and probably put up his best numbers ever too.
-
Well it is a supply and demand thing for sure and you have to scout and watch these guys really well to trade the ones you think won't keep getting better and keep the ones you think still have upside. The team wanting a goalie has to be right on that too. Were the Bruins lucky or smart when they traded for Rask for example, who knows, but I'm sure they'd say they saw something. Hasek was an exception to everything. He was so unorthodox he got undervalued. I think it likely we just took a chance and hoped and in that case we were right. But probably lucky. Roy demanded out so the trade value went down. Habs had no choice.

Krueger wants Dylan Cozens to start on the Wing
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Dach started on the 4th line and his play got him moved up. Predetermining moving him up without him playing is what we did with Mitts. Wing is easier than center and it's the same thing we did with Sam after he failed at center when we first had him up. To me this says don't expect a RW via trade or free agency. They'll play Cozens with Staal and if Staal fits maybe extend him a little and then when he retires or fades totally Cozens slides over and the plan would be the best of the wingers from this draft take Cozens spot, presumably Quinn. -
Let's hope it's a happy day.

Depends how they develop. You can't have too many of them. Look what happened to Boston. Or Colorado with the injury. In this league goalies are your most important piece to build around. Get a great one and you can cover up a lot of other weaknesses.
-
But with who/what, that is the (multi)million dollar question.

Oh ya, all of this is true, I just don't want us to get worse this year that's all. I'm fine to let Kahun go if we sign someone else, but if all we have for now is Tage I'm not happy with it.
-
Well at this point we are a worse team than last year even if Cozens is ready to make the roster so unless they do a few somethings we are not going to be close to the playoffs.
-
I think really top 9 but at this point he's definitely more talented than Tage.
-
well, you know it's paid for by taxes and such but you don't get a big bill when they wheel you out. No worries after and such.

I had hernia surgery yesterday and I just have to say the hospitals up here are so on top of this thing. All the protocols used, all the sanitizing, distancing, masks. Just amazing to see it all up close and personal. The nurses running short staffed and over worked but doing a fabulous job. I am smitten with my free Canadian healthcare.

is he qualified for that?

Overall I'm uninspired by it all. Obviously sad that a non playoff team only has 5 picks but ignoring that I'd have been more content if the middle pick was a goalie. One goalie every year, that's my view forever. You can't have enough goalie prospects, and if you do you have trade pieces. I'm fine with euros in the late rounds. It's smart. Used to be you pick tough guys but nowadays euros is a good strategy. They are often harder to scout and have stranger development paths so you have a greater chance of striking gold with them than with well seen and known NA skaters. Pitt, Detroit, us (with Olofsson0 have all had 7th round successes with euros, among others.

Sabres, 193rd overall: Albert Lyckasen (D)

Meh. -
Sabres 131st overall pick (5th round), Matteo Constantini
PerreaultForever replied to IKnowPhysics's topic in The Aud Club
Guess it makes sense when you have no scouts to go local. Meh. -
Sabres Pick 216 - Round 7 - Jakub Konecny - C
PerreaultForever replied to Taro T's topic in The Aud Club
Looks like a guy probably too small to make it but skates really well so you never know, hope and a prayer he defies the odds and becomes one of those mighty mites. Hire Briere to train him. Start flipping those tractor tires. -
Murray trade- could Sabres have acquired him?
PerreaultForever replied to gilbert11's topic in The Aud Club
Sens going to leap frog ahead of us at this rate. loved their draft picks. Youngsters they already have are good. Now they have a goalie. Hot damn. -
Sabres Move Up to 34, Select John Jason Peterka
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Which is what we're waiting for now, to see if there is a part 2 so to speak. Looking at a few of the trades that have already happened and a few of the names supposedly on the block I see possibilities I was hoping might be addressed at draft time (using picks this year as part of those deals). See what free agency brings.
