I'm not disagreeing with you, and I've been pretty consistent on spending to the cap and using some prospects/picks at this stage as assets to be traded for veteran on the roster players. I'm just suggesting Adams might be trying to do a lot more than we think but is failing not for trying but for no move clauses and similar related things. You need to stop rubbing.

One explanation (which no one will want to accept or believe) would be that very few players want to come here and so they can only attract marginal free agents with big overpays (like 5 million to Zucker) and thus they have no alternative but to run with prospects and drafted players of their own. They have created this mess with their ineptitude but getting out of it is likely getting harder and harder to do.

UPL looks like a bargain now for sure. Ullmark with the same money as Swayman nota surprise (boy are those guys close friends :)) but D'Accord was a surprise. One year of good play. Risky. Goalies are weird. Upset night tonight. Shut outs galore. Montreal goalie will want more money too soon .

Can you get over the fact we traded a 2nd round pick for this AHL caliber player? The kind of player you see on the waiver wire constantly. See above.
-
Well as an example to illustrate this Florida lost some free agents and their 4th line had AJ Greer and Jesper Boquist on it. Greer was waived 2 years ago by the Bruins (and could have been claimed by the Sabres) and Boquist was waived several times last year by the Bruins. Both those guys looked better than any of our 4th line did. Not saying they are better, but in a good solid system serviceable 4th liners are a dime a dozen. We should have 3 or 4 of them in Rochester. Most teams do.

Not a shock they'd pick the Oilers. Were in the final, they have McJesus and it's a Canadian team. My question on the Oilers would be is the other Skinner actually any good or was his playoff run a one off? I'm not sure he's the real deal. Their D isn't good either. But sure, if things go well they could be there.

With ex-Sabres still on it remember. panthers not missing the players they lost and the cast offs in their system looked good too. Greer and Boquist both former waiver players Sabres could have picked up last year or the year before. Amazing what a good system and players that buy into it make. Now the good news is Boston looked slow and stupid so the Sabres are now only 1 game behind them in the standings.

So I'd say did they ask Hasek and he said no thanks?
-
Well the other way to look at that is Adams should have built a team with more veterans on it but you are correct, they do not seem to have put in the work and changed at all. Buffalo was obviously chosen because there is a Czech fan club as we saw. I assume because of Hasek. I kind of expected Hasek to drop a puck but I guess there's some sort of politics or something going on there. League doesn't really choose teams for these things based on better and veteran, they chose two supposedly young and future star filled franchises, or so it seemed before they played. They've got an actual opening night with Boston Florida for the banner raising and Utah featured late as the new kid on the block so you can't fault their thinking. As always I survive and get rather detached as the season progresses because I follow other teams as substitutes. It is the only way I can stay a hockey fan. This year as well as Boston I will be watching Ottawa to see if Ullmark makes a difference, I will keep keeping an eye on Philly because I want to see if the Tortorella plan eventually works or not (and there's Michkov), Seattle and Vancouver a little since they are close and I could go to a game if I really wanted to and I think I'm going to watch Nashville as I like how they are doing their rebuild. Other good match ups as well as the season unfolds. I just love hockey and will not let this team make me lose my love for the game. For this team, who once were my main team by far (a long time ago) I feel like Godot, just waiting forever and it never arrives but I keep waiting all the same.

Would you be happy if Pegula sold the team?

It definitely has that feeling here and you are absolutely correct. They did not lose looking good. Quite the reverse as you said. Goalies were okay but otherwise not much positive. -

Amazing how quiet it's gotten here on the eve of a new season. Those 2 losses have been a gut punch for this fan base it seems. -
I haven't seen anything on what happened to him. Leg? Knee? Any idea what the injury actually is?
-
Technically, when you stay with the same team and get that 8 year maximum it could be considered an extension. But it doesn't matter.
-
Rotten? Self interest maybe, but hardly rotten. Goat heads. I prefer red black and white anyway. In all likelihood the name would change, so that would be sad and thus not the same team, but there's no talk of the team moving so I wouldn't worry about it. There's several rich guys around the area or in Southern Ontario who might keep it just where it is.
-
Well since I don't live in Buffalo I don't really care what city they are in so the question would be are they still the Sabres? If the goat head becomes one of those dead steers with the horns I'm thinking it's not really the same team any more. I'd be fine with a move to Portland. That's not too far. Atlanta Sabres has a better sound than Houston Sabres. Quebec City would be fun. Rekindle that Montreal rivalry and Gilbert can be their ambassador. I suspect if they weren't called the Sabres though I'd probably stop following them. Pegula has to go though. He's the constant and this ship is sinking deeper all the time. Best case scenario they stay in Buffalo but with a new owner who hires hockey people to run it and stays out of their way. Then create a goat head section for fans like those Czechs had. idk, they were so damn good in the 70s. It's just so sad now.

JJ Peterka, What Do We Have In This Player?
PerreaultForever replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Well since you insist, things just got worse for the Sabres, Bruins have signed Swayman. Now to your point, you are fine with so called Sabres fans dumping on Tuch, the only guy to stand up (feeble attempt as it was) when his teammate got crunched but you take issue with me? Okay have at it. Maybe the team really is a reflection of the fanbase if that's the case. I'd hope not, but those comments about Tuch were sad to say the least. You should be directing your angered loyalty there. I've said for years Bruins are my literal B team and I have been hoping for years to see a Sabres team that will give me a playoff conflict or even a flip in that scenario but it never happens. They keep rolling along and Sabres keep failing, so watching both teams I compare and contrast success and failure. What can you learn from that? What's the differences? Some of them are glaring. So I point them out and you don't like it. Maybe take your scorn out on your team and their ineptitude rather than me, but since you don't have Terry Pegula's email I guess it's easier to just attack me so have at it if it makes you feel better. It won't help you though. It won't make the Sabres a better team. Sabres fans hate Tuch. Trade him to Boston then. He's exactly what they could use in their top 6. Since you don't value him that is. You can have one of those shiny Euro prospects take his place. How's that sound? Good. Glad we agree. -

Do the Sabres make the playoffs this season (second edition)
PerreaultForever replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
No. -
Just finished watching this (replay as 7am is way too early on a Saturday for me) and so I've been able to read through all your comments and feelings. As usual I see it differently than many of you. Overall the team had more pace and effort. They battled for more pucks, but many of the same problems were still there. Levi was good. Goaltending might not be an issue, might even be a strength. It was really nice to see the return of Conor Clifton. He was one of the few who seemed to have listened to Ruff and he looked more like his Bruin self. I liked Krebs effort and compete but he really is no better than Curtis Lazar (at best). What was really nice to see (on the Sabres goal) was a big save and then a greasy goal the other way. That sort of quick turnaround and effort is how you can win games you don't necessarily deserve to win. Now, on the hit. Perfectly legal hit. Good solid contact. Peterka had his head down. His own fault. I'd even argue that it was marginal in terms of interference. Probably a few seconds late, but in the playoffs they'd let that go entirely. Illustrates how a guy like Dillon is what we actually needed on this D, not what we did. I'm really appalled by Sabres fans here critiquing Tuch and if I were him and that's the Sabres fan view I'd want out of this town. Only guy who stood up. Sure, he was reluctant to fight Dillon. Dillon's tough. Tuch's not a fighter. But he stood up for the team. Where the f was Malenstyn later in the game huh? Give me a break on your Tuch criticisms. He deserves better than you. Byram is a horrible defenseman. Horrible. Of all Adams moves I think the Mitts for Byram deal might be the one to sink this team more than any other. McLeod does not impress me at all and Thompson-Mitts-Cozens as your top 3 centers in that order would be a much better team than Thompson-Cozens-McLeod. Malentstyn is an AHL level player and a complete waste of space. Zucker? He played right? What did we sign him for again? Okay, try to convince me that was a good deal. Well done Adams, maybe you can flip him at the deadline for another 2nd rounder (3rd if he keeps playing like this). Unless he's hurt I do not in any way understand benching Benson. Zucker and others deserve benching. Benson was at least giving effort every shift. No comprehension of the logic there at all. Not much more to say. This team is going nowhere unless something changes drastically.

I'd agree with that. The timing was fine. He had just passed the puck but the guy definitely launched and left his feet. That makes it dirty.
