The talk out of Boston is that the Bruins had offered him a 2 year (and then a 3 year) extension but he was holding out for a 5 year deal and that factored into his firing. There's also some talk that the players were losing faith in his ability to get them further in the playoffs. Didn't exactly quit on him but also weren't exactly listening fully either. There's also some feeling (and Neely apparently is in that camp) that Monty shares some of the blame for blowing the playoffs to Florida when they had that loaded Bergeron/Krejci farewell team. Some say his wife also wanted to be back in St. Louis so this was fast, but not unexpected. I wonder how Claude Julien feels as he probably thought he had been positioned for that job should they make a move. Now in Boston, Sacco is a Boston guy, with Boston attitudes, and his initial plan seems to be to dumb it down and stress old school D. Team looks better and will be tougher to beat, but they still cannot score and thus can be beaten.

Soft in front. Kunin's goal should have never happened (for example). Kulich does look more determined, like he doesn't want to go back down. Have to like that. Face offs are better (and so we see that they DO matter :)) . idk who is teaching them but I do know that Ruff has stated their value in the past so I assume he has put focus on that. Overall they are doing a lot of the little details better and playing better as a team/unit. It is the coaching. This is undeniable. -

I think with Tage playing JJP goes under the radar as sniper B. They all know to watch out for Tage and focus on him first. With him out, JJP gets more attention and "disappears". -
Speculation: What would you trade for Brady Tkachuk?
PerreaultForever replied to freester's topic in The Aud Club
Don't think that would get it done. I don't think we could get rid of any of the pieces we don't like (for various reasons). Byram has the contract issue coming up and you are left with the question of how much you spend on your D when you already have Power and Dahlin making big bucks. In any event I think it would take a 4 firsts or equivalents type offer not unlike Eichel. Is he actually worth that? No, but also yes. Not in terms of mathematical value, but in terms of being a missing ingredient that takes us over the top, absolutely. -

Reimer looked pretty good, so no worries on the back up situation. Levi can get the development he needs. I thought the D was a little soft tonight but the team played just well enough to win. Kept moving ahead of Detroit and Ottawa in the standings so that's good. Cozens looked better. Maybe his best game of the year. A successful road trip like this, without our star scorer, that can go a long way to building a winning culture. -

I think this is Joe Thornton jersey retirement night so SJ might be at their best. Their best ain't all that good though so nothing to worry about. One would think Reimer plays . A decent effort should get a win here. -

No. Absolutely no. When you are close to getting there it's on the GM to make bold moves to take the extra step. -

Quinn (he's an Ottawa kid isn't he?) , Byram and 2 first round picks. Is that enough? If we made that deal soon I guarantee we'd be in the playoffs. -
Pretty even game really between pretty equal teams but we came out on top so that's all that matters. It was mostly garbage hockey but Sabres were slightly better in the second half. It annoys me that our smallest players have to be the stand up guys because our big players are such pussies but hey, at least we have somebody. Quinn is playing slightly better. Cozens not so much. Win's a win. Time to sweep with a win in San Jose.

This is hilarious. Leaf fans are hilarious. I certainly hope they plan to fully rely on Marner. That way we can be assured of another first round exit as he disappears again once the playoffs start. At which point all the Leaf fans will want him traded and so the cycle continues.

Watched the Bruins tonight play 1-0 against Utah and win by the one PP goal. Very deja vu two nights in a row. Sabres play Bruins we might be waiting all night for a goal and go 0-0 to a shootout. -

I will take it, because winning is more fun than losing, but it was a little Bylsma-esque. -

tbh a pretty boring hockey game but they came out on the right side of it. PK was really good and they got the one goal so all is well. UPL very good. The last 2 minutes they were so passive I thought they were going to blow it. LA in full control there but they missed their best shots and it was UPL's game. LA plays a boring style though that's for sure. -
Ruff seems quite serious so I figure it was a lunch counter and the guy wouldn't give Lindy his burger until he answered the questions. Lindy didn't have time to go to another place.
-
Yes I think that's what it proves. Ultimately it's just about winning. If you win then everything is fine. The coach is clever, the GM made good deals, the mistakes are excused, the culture is strong and everything is wonderful. When you don't win, all those same things are some level of garbage. The switch from hero to zero can happen quickly. After 13 years of it though, things do get cynical quickly. Bruins fans, on the other hand, are spoiled rotten and aren't used to it so for them the sky is truly falling.

Friedman reporting salary cap will be up between 95-97 million

Sadly, I think this is probable. -

So those lines look like the old spread everything out and roll all 4 strategy rather than having one good one bad. idk I really don't like the look of Zucker-Kulich-Quinn. They've had good road trips before, but LA is playing pretty good hockey. Not an easy game. -
I am finding it weird, but also quite amusing how quickly the Bruins fan site has turned into the same type of conversations that we have had here for years. It's a large and diverse group with many opinions but the "arguments" now are the same. Fire the GM, culture is broken, lazy country club locker room, tear it down and start over. Almost everything read here is now over there. Also Sweeney quoted with "players that want to be here will stay". How familiar is that! Now the only problem for me is the Sabres aren't winning yet. The flip is missing that part of the equation. I really don't want to go looking for a 3rd team to enjoy hockey.

why?

No offense but this is rubbish. I wouldn't be surprised if Ruff insisted on Skinner off the roster as a condition to take the job. The guy has ZERO work ethic, is completely uncoachable, and his attitude rubs off on players around him. It is not a fluke that he has never been in the playoffs and it is not a coincidence that more than one team has wanted him gone. Yes, Kreuger was right about this. maybe the only thing he was right about, but he was right about this.
-
I think the difference is that Terry knows he doesn't know anything about football so he lets the hired people do their job and just enjoys his investment. On the other hand, he THINKS he knows a lot about hockey so he's the de facto GM.
-
I find it hilarious that I heard this here before I heard it on the Bruins site. It was inevitable. They are a disaster right now. I could list a bunch of reasons for it (Swayman is the biggest) but it's a Sabres site so just enjoy their freefall. I am surprised they gave it to Sacco though. I had thought that's why they brought back Leach but whatever. If they flounder new coach next year.

They say we will get a "bomb cyclone" where I live tonight. When did weather get this dramatic? It's going to be windy. Bomb Cyclone would be a good nickname for something in hockey though. Like the Surge. We need a BOMB CYCLONE!
