Why should Granato and the assistants be brought back?
irregularly irregular replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
It's got to start with Terry. He has to set the bar much higher, hold KA and DG fully accountable and then back it up with his own accountability to the fans. If I was the team owner, DG would know that starting next season every 10 games he is having a performance evaluation. If the team is not in the top 3 of the Atlantic Division at any one of those evaluations then it's good bye and enjoy your free money. If I was the team owner, KA would know that if DG fails any one of those performance evaluations then he has one chance to hire the interim head coach that saves his job. Once the new head coach is in place if the Sabres don't make the playoffs for the 14th year in a row, then KA and the interim coach join DG looking for gainful employment. Using this formula, KA and DG have from the day after locker clean-out until the start of the 2024-25 season to make the changes they want to make. New coaches, new players, same players with different roles, trainers, equipment guys, janitors, whatever it takes. This is their last chance to prove their worth. The guidelines are straightforward and easily measured. The Sabres are in the playoffs next season or everything gets blown up..... again. -
5 months before the season starts and lots of things are going to be different. Way early to be making definitive statements. Let's just wait and see how this is going to play out. It should be fun to watch. Maybe GMKA might get an idea of what it takes and how it's done.

Yes, but no. Diggs seems to be on the way out the door due to age/declining ability/contract as opposed to Watkins who never figured out how to get to that point.

BandAid has now been torn off. Cheatriots, NJJest and a rebuilding Miami are not juggernauts. One season of potentially struggling as new players fit into place then the wound is healed and the veteran QB is leading the charge. Rose colored glasses firmly in place.

Terry has lots of things that need his attention. Hopefully first and foremost is Kim's health. The Sabres are a long way down the list of priorities that need attention. And push come to shove, they have almost certainly been a good investment for him. From that standpoint the Sabres don't need much attention. Please Terry, sell a controlling interest in the team to people that have it higher on their list of priorities. Leadership has to come from the very top. Even if leading requires the strength and knowledge to step away and place said leadership in the hands of someone more capable and available.

That was a quick recovery from the jet lag fueled hangover of only 1 week ago. Luckily your liver might be ready for another go-round next month, especially with the advantage of flying west to get home.
-
Thank you Terry for all you've done for professional sports in WNY, but it's time for you to sell the Sabres. Or at least a controlling interest. Then and only then will the changes be made that will make the Sabres a consistently relevant team rather than the bottom feeders they have been for over a decade.

Got a phone call last night from my former co-worker and good friend who was diagnosed with brain cancer ( Glio Blastoma Multiforme- median survival after diagnosis is 14-16 months with around 1% survival at 10 years - yep, it's bad) and she was given 18 months to live. That diagnosis was 5.5 years ago after she collapsed on the street having convulsions. Yesterday she was released by her oncologist after she was told that he was too busy taking care of sick people and didn't need to follow someone who had 2 years of stable MRIs to her credit. That phone call was the very definition of AWESOME!!! Cancer sucks!, but it can be beaten. Even the worst ones. God willing with all the research being done there will be some secrets unlocked and we can maybe get the upper hand. Jim Valvano said it best... " Never, ever give up".

Isn't that what everyone wants? The ideal owner picks good people and allows them to do their jobs and they do them well. The ideal owner should disappear into the background. You make it sound like that's a bad thing when it would be exactly what we should be seeing. Would you prefer a Jerry Jones type of owner?

And what was that exactly? Also given the way things have happened this year, maybe it's not so much EJ but the coaching staff that is more at fault? He's shown some leadership and fire along with what is likely to be an older players inability to be what he once was.

What we have here, is a fail-ure to co-muni-cate. In my best Struther Martin drawl.

Achieved our seasonal average snowfall in Anchorage on Christmas Day. Already have had a few roof collapses. And we only have another 3-4 months of winter to go! Lots of skiing available but the backcountry is shut down due to high avalanche danger.

Collinsworth: 28 seconds is forever if you are a Bills fan. I hope he chokes on that SH!T.

Would Anyone Care If Any Current Player Was Traded?
irregularly irregular replied to CallawaySabres's topic in The Aud Club
Given what we all perceived as a team potentially approaching 100+ points this year, this is absolutely an unacceptable product. I don't think it's the players as much as it is the coaching staff and front office. No more "we will learn from tonight's game" speeches. Put Gallant behind the bench and allow him to reset the bar. By the end of January you will know if it really is the players or not. -
I think most of us could agree that McD is the best coach since Marv. To call him great (at this point) is a stretch. That sums it up.

Dallas has to prove to themselves and everyone else that they can win against good teams on the road. Miami just has to prove they can win against good teams. I see Dallas as the better team and a loss at Miami could confirm the downward spiral into the playoffs and therefore more to play for.

Shouldn't the captain be the first person stepping forward to do what is best for the team? It should come from Kyle or does it come down to DG making it happen?

Guess I need to start taking the dog for a walk every 3rd period. -
Nope, not even close. All they have to do is get to the playoffs. All teams this year seem to have significant flaws. Get to the playoffs. Get hot and throw in some luck. Get some good matchups. Don't get done in by the zebras. Parade!!! There are a dozen different teams this year that could win if they can only get to the playoffs, and the Bills are certainly in that group.
