The interesting thing about the trade @Gabrielor proposed is the dynamic between long and short term. Undoubtedly the Sabres win Short term: Gaurdeau>Reinhart (by a bit, Gaurdeau is more offensively gifted, but Reinhart is more defensively responsible) Monahan>>Montour, and Mitts isn't ready to make up the difference. But long term, if Gaurdeau and Monahan walk, it doesn't look very lopsided. Both Reinhart and Montour would likely be on the Flames longer, and whatever Mitts turns into could be enough for the trade to swing in Calgary's favor.

3rd longest- to become THE longest, it would need to get pretty close to finishing the 6th overtime.

I don't want to give away much more about the trade, so I will not comment on the significance of the picks/prospects. I will say that just because Sabres fans would be happy with a trade, doesn't mean it's a "big win". There could be even value in a trade, but if It fixes the Sabres biggest problem for 2 straight years (2C), then Sabres fans would be happy.

I have Carolina in 6.

It would also certainly be more expensive for the Sabres if Gaudreau was signed long term.

I would rather not say, as the possible teams for this trade have already been narrowed down significantly.

I'm interested to see what the team would look like should a trade similar to this occur. I went with Reinhart, Risto, Mitts, and a 3rd for Gaurdreau and Monahan, as an inbetween for these trade proposals. Skinner-Eichel-Oloffson Gaurdreau-Monahan-Kahun Johannson-Cozens-Thompson? Ruotsaleinen?-Lazar-Okposo Dahlin-Jokiharju McCabe-Montour Bryson?-Miller Ullmark Hutton I went with players that the sabres had under contract/hold the rights of. I would like Girgs/Larsson resigned to fill out that 4th line, give us a defensively responsible line. I also obviously would want to replace Bryson, (I don't think he's NHL ready) that could be a UFA, or a small trade. I think that's a playoff roster. Our Defense is mostly intact, which was our strength last year, and our forwards are SIGNIFICANTLY improved. I would be happy with this roster going into the season.

I know the biggest players in the trade, unsure about the details as far as picks/prospects go. I would be very positive about the trade if it went through, and I believe most fans would like the trade.

Why would a team trade 2 of their top6 if there wasn't at least one top 6 coming back. I don't think many teams would be willing to completely decimate this offense like that.
