  1. I like Ullmark in general. He seems like a good guy with a good attitude. And by that, I mean when he’s asked about his situation, he simply talks about winning games for the Amerks and their fans, not simply getting up to the NHL. Everyone gets it, but it’s nauseating to hear every prospect drone on about making Buffalo. No . How about you respect the team you’re on and talk about them? For this, I really appreciate Ullmark. Now that doesn’t change my view of him on the ice. He’s not a bad goalie, but there’s absolutely no evidence, through stats or a by an eye test, that’s he’s anything more than an average AHL goalie. That could change. But it’s the way it is right now.
  2. I’ve watched all of them and they were all considerably better than Ullmark. Biron absolutely dominated in 1998-1999. A 2.07 GAA and .930 save percentage. Ullmark hasn’t approached anything remotely close to that. Biron also backstopped them to the Calder Cup finals. Noronen was lights out on the playoffs leading them to another finals appearance. Had something like 6 shutouts in one playoff year. Miller was way, way better than Ullmark. Ullmark has been pedestrian at best. That’s not to say he’s not a late bloomer or may play better in the NHL. But he’s far down the list of Amerks goalies.
  3. It’s definitely anecdotal but it’s my opinion of him since he came here. One example is last Friday against Hershey. 6-4 lead going into the 3rd and the Amerks allowed them to tie it. The 5th goal against Ullmark has to be saved. That was a critical goal. The 6th goal was a bad bounce, so I don’t pin it on Ullmark entirely. But he did appear to be a bit out of position. We’ve watched some good goalies here over the years. I’ve watched Biron, Noronen, Miller, Anderson. Those were big time goalies. Ullmark just makes you nervous on every shot.
  4. You’re wrong about the Amerks defense. It’s not an issue. Botterill signed a lot of depth defensemen. Even with the injuries, the Amerks have been dressing Guhle/Redmond/Goers/Percy/MacWilliam/Nelson. That should be a very solid AHL defense. The only one here that is truly awful is Nelson. And he’s really bad. Ullmark’s issues have nothing to do with the defense in front of him. He just lets bad goals in. This argument may have been relevant the last 2 seasons, but not this year.
  5. I hope. Because he gives up back breaking goals at the worst time. He never makes the big stop in a close game when you need it. I think Sabres fans think he’s a lock as an NHL starter. I think he’s a backup at best, but he’s still young enough to improve.
  6. He plays well in about half of his games. Either looks spectacular or awful. But that’s been his career in NA. Let’s a lot of soft goals in, makes a lot of great saves. He really needs to be more consistent.
  7. The Sabres were in on Iafallo. He simply chose another organization.
  8. The Amerks have been bad for a very long time. The team on paper is actually quite strong. They lack high end skill offensively though and it’s defin their biggest issue.
  9. All I’ll say is the coach and Kevin O echoed my thoughts of a poor effort and very few chances offensively. They were shut out at home. The forwards produced absolutely nothing.
  10. Not on the website. But I think these opinions are held by most Amerks fans that have seen the first couple of games. Overall I really like the direction of the team but some individual players seem to not be improving.
  11. Baptiste’s shots were very low percentage. I don’t think he even has a point yet this season. His poor camp as spilled over to games. Fasching has not looked good. Took a lazy slashing penalty in the offensive zone last night. He’s just very slow, I can’t see him ever keeping up in the NHL. Bailey is totally hit or miss every game and every shift.
  12. I just don’t agree. The offense was non existent. They had maybe 2 good scoring chances. The defense played well enough. Offense did nothing.
  13. What game were you watching? They were awful. That was some lazy, piss poor hockey. Mirrored the Sabres. The coach ripped them afterwards. Guhle looks lost. He has a long ways to go.
  14. No. More likely means Bailey/Baptiste/Griffith get sent down. Maybe one makes and Deslauriers is waived.
  15. Honestly, Baptiste was never impressive in Rochester. Scored a bunch of goals early last season, did little after. Very quiet player unless he has the puck in close. I don’t view him very highly.
  16. Yes extremely happy. Nice to have a GM actually care about the Amerks. Should be a good team.
  17. I was referring to Tennyson. Goloubef could earn a contract. The 7 D in Buffalo is pretty set in stone. Ristolainen, McCabe, Scandella, Bealieu, Bogosian, Antipin, Gorges.
  18. Goloubef would likely stick over Tennyson. He was signed as depth to start in Rochester.
  19. Josefson is making Buffalo. Tennyson has almost no chance. The Amerks are actually 2 over the vet limit now by my estimation of who gets sent down. Gorges would make them 3 over. Veterans include: Porter, Griffith, Falk, Fedun, Tennyson, Paetsch, MacWilliam and Allen.
  20. No. They're already over the vet limit. Gorges would just create an awful situation. He'll be in Buffalo.
  21. It's based on previous seasons. If someone crosses over midseason, they aren't considered a veteran until he next season.
  22. I would be shocked if Josefson was sent to Rochester. Very unlikely. I also think Deslauriers will make the Sabres as the 13th forward, but he's a little more likely to be waived. Ultimately, the Amerks veterans to start the season will likely be Griffith, Porter, Fedun, Falk, Tennyson and Paetsch. They also have Andrew MacWilliam and Conor Allen who are both veterans. Sending an additional vet down like Josefson or Deslauriers would create a bad situation and I doubt Botterill does that.
  23. All the vets like Deslauriers, Gorges and Moulson will make Buffalo. Deslauriers is a good 13th forward who can sit in the press box for long stretches and play here and there against a bigger or more physical team. Just can't see any of them getting waived to Rochester. It doesn't accomplish much and creates a veteran problem in Rochester. Injuries will eventually make all of them necessary and the prospects will get their chance as well.
  24. Yes. He just won a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids. He's very good at the AHL level.
  25. Issue now is the veteran rule. Depending on how things shake out, Amerks may need to sit a couple vets each night. Usually this takes care of itself relatively quickly with injuries and call ups.
