Listening to Instigators this morning, Rivet brought up a good point. There was no immediate response to elbow by players on team because your on the PP and thinking if proper call was made you get a 5-3 PP and could tie the game. After no call was made and you give up the two short handed goals in third, who on the Sabres would been able to respond to Cernak hit? The Sabres have nobody. They haven't had anybody in years. That is why this team suffers every year. There is no family, I got your back attitude. Everyone plays for themselves. Yes you need talent, but you also need grit. The grit helps create space for the talented. Crosby has had Hornqvist. McDavid has had Kassian and now Neal. Ovi has Wilson.

I looked at Ehlers for Sam being an even swap. Buffalo gets the better contract as Sam will get more than the $6 million Ehlers is signed for. Risto and ERod for Copp and Perreault to me is a pretty even trade. Perreault would fit better on our third line then ERod and adds another veteran guy. Jets get a good defenseman and Sabres get another forward capable of playing center. Maybe Jest have to throw us a 2nd rounder to compensate for Perreault's salary.

I posed this question this morning to see what fans reactions would be. The main reason was because of needing a contract after this year, do I as a fan see the Sabres being able to win with Jack, Jeff and Sam as our core group. Since everyone keeps looking to WPG as a landing spot for Risto, could JBott package Sam with Risto and get a much larger return, while keeping the salary structure in tact. Could we land Ehlers, Copp, and Perreault for Sam, Risto, and ERod?

I seriously go back and forth in my head with this question. Sometimes he looks like a teammate that cares and has some push back in his game, and other times he looks like he is just riding on the back seat of jack's two seat bicycle. I actually don't mind Jack and Sam on the same team we just need different type of players around them and I want Sam on a different line. Skinner is tenacious on offensive end, little water bug with knack at finding ways to score. Wish he was 3 inches taller and a true power forward. VO is defensively responsible, can't create on his own, but has a great shot. Sheary is defensively responsible, will hustle, but can't hit the net 10 ft in front of him. Vesey is defensively responsible, big body, but has not shown any offensive ability. Mitts is still learning but probably will get passed up by Cozens in a few years. Do you keep Mitts as your third line center forever. He could be moved but is also Botts first big draft pick. Johansson is steady and skilled, not flashy but gets the job done. Bottom six is well bottom six, nothing else to discuss!! So changes need to be made going forward. UFA crop for next year is not promising. So do you move Reinhart for another promising yet proven forward or do you sign him to an $8 million AAV and change the players around them?

I won't buy in until the Sabres realize that it is a team game and everyone has to contribute. Everyone depends on Jack for offense, yet he sucks in his own end and has no idea how to cover anyone. Getting beat twice by a rookie tonight is embarrassing. Yes he can score 4 goals in one game and then look like Sh!t the next. So frustrating watch this team year after yea play with a bunch on pansies on the ice. Where are players like Peca, Grier, and Drury when you need them...

All JBotts and Krueger talked about during the summer was adding speed and grit. They brought in speed with Joker and maybe a little grit with Miller. Besides that they brought in two players in Johansson and Vesey that are like the rest of the team. You can't win in this league with just speed. No one can win one on one battles and they often get pushed around and bumped of pucks. The Jack and Sam duo has got to stop on 5 on 5. They have no clue how to play defense. They just run around in the zone. Reinhart just left Aho to go double the Carolina guy that Risto was already covering. Changes need to be made or this will be another long season.

Back to the trade rumors... how about a three way trade that helps all teams involving Edmonton, Winnipeg and Buffalo. Ehlers to Buffalo Risto to WPG Sheary and Scandella to EDM Puljujarvi and Chiasson to WPG

I am going with a 4-2 win tonight and 3-2 OT loss tomorrow. If Sabres can get 3 of 4 pts on this trip that would be great. Olofsson gets first even strength goal this weekend.

Sabres fans which pending UFA would you rather JBotts go after, Granlund from Preds or Toffoli from Kings?

Nothing wrong with Draisaitl or McDavid, its the team that is around them that sucks.

They are missing a true power forward. What would this team look like with Draisaitl instead of Reinahrt. Still mad at GM Murray for that.

With Chicago struggling do you think they ever move Kane before his contract is up. Would you want him in Buffalo for the next four years? What would you have to give up to get him? I think he could be good for Jack. They would have to take on some salary back. Risto, Mitts, ERod, 2021 1st rd pick.

I want to see more consistent play from Jack and Sam. The two games over the weekend looked like they were just going through the motions. Jack has elite offensive talent. That being said he tries to do too much leading to bad give aways, most often at the blue line, which lead to scoring chances, (or goals), for the opposing team. The line shuffling on Saturday didn't make sense to me. At the beginning of the season Sobotka was placed on second line to help Johansson ease into center role. With the shuffling he was placed on Mitts wing, why? Sobotka is nothing more than a 4th line defensive situation player, he adds no offense and brings down the players he plays with. Sobotka, Girgs, Larsson, and Okposo should only be used in that role of 4th line grinders. Rotate them if you have to. To me Sheary has played very well this year and seems to be giving an effort on every shift. With getting a couple practices in over seas maybe we will see some different line combos. Skinner and Johansson have looked good together. Reihart and Olofson have looked good together. Time to break up Reinhart and Eichel. Lets see if Eichel can drive a line with some players who are better with defensive coverage. Jack always looks like he is skating around in circles in the defensive zone and doesn't know who he is supposed to be watching. Vesey, Eichel, Sheary Skinner, Johansson, Sobotka (hope to see Thompson here by Christmas) Olofson, Mitts, Reinhart Girgs, Larsson, Okposo

The part I don't like about the call and why Skinner was upset was that Skinner was going to the net looking for a deflection. Zibanejad lifts Skinners stick which then clips his own visor. I get players are supposed to be in control of their stick but when someone else hits your stick I think all bets are off. There are two refs on the ice now and they still miss the obvious calls right in front of them and then call the reaction penalties where they don't even see what really happened. I would have been upset too if I was Skinner. Dumb call.

Vesey and Sheary are up in the air for me...they fill in well on third line and can add depth scoring...as long as they score. I can see Thompson taking over on 2nd line RW for Sobotka next year. One year contracts keep players motivated. Going to be an interesting off season. We need to keep a couple veterans around for the next couple of years until younger players develop. I am in no rush to bring young guys up because then we would have to expose them in Seattle expansion draft. Players won't like it if they think they are ready. Best scenario is Sabres keep winning with this group and let guys like Asplund, Thompson, Pilut, and UPL dominate in AHL. I also don't want to see Cozens here until 21-22.
