I'm a Sabres fan through and through and have watched them since the mid 80's, but I believe you are over valuing Samuelsson. He will be the same type of player Mayfield is. The Sabres have good LD in system and need a RD to play with Power. That is why this trade works.

I'm thinking a little outside the box with a trade with Islanders. They had a very disappointing year and may look to change things up. Islanders will have about $15 million in cap space but need to sign 3 to 4 defenseman. My proposed trade: To Buffalo- Josh Bailey and Scott Mayfield. Sabres get another vet 2nd LW who can help develop young players for next couple of years. Mayfield would be a solid 2nd RD to play with Power. To Islanders- Mattias Samuelsson and Anders Bjork. Although I don't want to lose Samuelsson the Sabres have depth on LD with Power, Johnson, and Bryson filling in the spots behind Dahlin. Not sure if the Sabres could convince Varlamov to come to Sabres as a starter for one year. Could move him at deadline to a contender.

How about Miller, Anderson, and 23' Vegas 2nd rd pick to NYR for RD Lundkvist and St. Louis 22' 2nd rd pick. Would add depth to RD for Sabres and a good pick. Rangers get added depth for playoff run and the ability to move Georgiav.

Time to call Islanders on the future considerations in the Boychuk trade and get Mayfield from Islanders.

Both are UFA's after next year. NJ and islanders may look to move to get some type of return instead of letting them walk.

RD partner- make a deal for either Mayfield from Islanders or Severson from NJ

I would give it a shot, you never know what will happen with trades and in the off season. If you are able to get better options than buffalo could always put him on waivers or send him in a trade. Definitely worth the risk.

So you would rather have for the next three years Olofsson over Skinner, Tuch, JJ and Quinn. I believe Mitts adds more play making ability and a little more grit than Oloffson. It's more of him being the odd man out and using him to fill a hole somewhere else on the team.

Too many players like him. He has value because of being a goal scorer. Sabres will have plenty of guys who will be able to score. They need a more gritty winger who can also score.

Petry from Montreal

I'm intrigued with Petry from Montreal. They are clearly in rebuild mode now and trying to shed salary. Petry is RD who you could pair with Dahlin or Power. He is signed for three more years and would be gone before Sabres would have to extend Power.

A couple of good things for Sabres fans about this trade. He did not resign with Ducks so he may hit UFA market in summer. If Avalanche extend him, it probably means they are trading either Girard or Johnson. If Johnson would approve a trade in the off season, would you trade for him to play alongside Power for one year. He is a former #1 overall pick so he definitely understands the pressure. He also is big, physical, and still provides some offense while playing 17-18minutes a night.

He may get one game but most likely a fine since Dahlin did not get "hurt", it did look like his cheek started to swell up. I want to see how Sabres respond in April during the game in Toronto. If the league suspends him than ok they did their job. If the league does not suspend him than he better get run over during the next game.

I'd be interested in getting Kassian from Edmonton with a 2nd rd pick for future considerations. Would free up just over $3 million in cap space for Edmonton to make other moves. Sabres get a big physical winger for 3rd or 4th line. Only signed for two more years which helps get Sabres get above cap floor.
