They were 23rd in the league in scoring WITH Skinner and Mittelstadt. I also appreciate it's still early, but how in the hell does this team get playoff level scoring without two of their best producers from last year?!?!

Unfortunately, there's been many.

It's two games I know... but we don't have enough players that can score. Sadly, our GM thought that by getting rid of two legit top-6 forwards (Mittelstadt and Skinner) that we'd somehow improve on our 23rd in the league offense. 🥴

Sabres woke up. Let's hope they keep it up. Problem is NJ is playing very good defense. There seems to be at least 4 guys clogging up the scoring lanes at all times.

Vegas has them at 88 to 90 points. If everything goes right I think they can be better. If some unforeseen things go wrong (injuries, UPL sucking again), they'll be worse. My opinion is that some things will go better than expected and some will go worse than expected and we'll be right where Vegas says we are. For that I consider myself neither a pessimist or optimist. Just a realist.

I've done this so many offseasons in the past. This year I'm not drinking the Kool aid. In a line by line comparison of us vs the good teams in the East, only our 4th line looks like it has top end potential. The rest are below average to average. With this, I tend to agree with Vegas with our 88 to 90 point projections. Edit: here's where I see our forward lines vs the Eastern playoff teams. 1st Line - worse 2nd Line - average 3rd Line - much worse 4th Line - better

Yeah... Make it end and start the regular season! No reason to wait this long and then be playing playoff games well into June.

Almost everyone looked good... As they should have. I thought at times they took the foot off the gas slightly, especially on the PP. They could have really blown it open had they wanted to. Would be nice to see this team on big ice full time, especially the 4th line. Two guys that need to be better from what I saw were Krebs and Zucker. I kind of feel bad for Krebs, but then I think about his contract and I realize he doesn't need to be a pity case.

How's the Östlund / Rosen watch going?

I think you may be a year too far back. Pominville was drafted in 2001 and had 64pt in 66 games in his 3rd year after being drafted (03-04). To your point though, Pominville and Rosen were at about the same pace two years after being drafted. Pominville bumped in year 3 whereas Rosen didn't (or at least not as much). I agree with @SabreFinn that we should trade him (and should have done so already).

Picture our 3rd line from way back when we were good. We need that or better if we're going to win a cup. Rosen, had a pedestrian 0.75ppg during his 20-21yo season in the AHL. It would take a MAJOR bump on his development curve to get to 05 to 07 era's 3rd line level.

So as some of the only 1st rounders on the ice, they must look real good. 🫣

Can someone give an honest report on how Rosen and Östlund are doing? Part of me is super hopeful that they're going to be bonafide contributors to us being perennial cup contenders... And another part of me... The much pettier part.. wants to hear how right I was that they sucked as picks.
