I don't think I ever thought we'd land one of them this offseason based on our cap figures. However, there are some tough guys and tier two players that I'm interested in signing/acquiring. Doan would be at the top of my list for someone to sign as well. Get him for a couple years and bridge the gap between now and when our two young draft picks are ready to go. He's a beast come playoff time....

Goin to see Aerosmith tonight at the ACC!!
-
N Not sure about down there. For you Canadian viewers, I've checked ahead and TSN is carrying the draft. I checked for Saturday and can't find anyone who is showing it. Maybe NHL Network?

I think we should have a thread to discuss something none of us really want to discuss....the expiration of the NHL CBA. Negotiations are not expected to take place until June 1. Will there be another labour stoppage? I can't see this happening due to the lost season in 2004-2005. How will the new CBA affect the cap? There is significant talk of an amnesty clause where a contract can be bought out without affecting the salary cap (cough Lenio). Will this be negotiated? Here is a link to get you thinking about one of the uglier sides of professional sports. http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2012/3/26/2896744/nhl-cba-salary-cap-2012 Discuss.....

So your argument is to only have what average sized players on your team? Come on, if your point is that you don't want to invest too much in Ennis because he's small and small players tend to get injured more then I think that's weak. You must be pretty upset in the investment we made in Tyler1.
-
Haha, good point.
-
Despite his tough effort and love from this board, Gerbe is a very boarderline NHLer as he's just too small. Yes, Ennis having a freak ankle injury proves that small players are more prone to injury. Bigger guys have those tougher ankles I guess....

Give him time to get use to his new wingers. The kid is only 22 and has been playing very well lately IMO. A center with 3 goals and 4 assists in the past 5 games with the games being of high importance is someone I badly want on my team. Well what small guys are more likely to get hurt? I've never noticed that.
-
 I've never seen that before. Martin St. Louis is one of the smallest guys in the league and he hasn't missed more than a couple games in the 10 seasons he's been playing regularily in the league. Obviously the amount of the offer sheet plays a big roll in if you match but I'd be pissed if we lose him and only get back a 1st and 3rd.

Here is a decent read on a writeup of Hodgson prior to the infamous 2008 draft. The second portion is very interesting as I did not realize he was best friends with Matt Duchene growing up and this writer refers to him as being Chris Drury like with clutch goal scoring, leadership and the ability to line up against the oppositions top line. Good read if you have time. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3381608

You don't think McNabb is ready? He's looked very solid in his time up here IMO. Brennan has looked good as well. Not to mention we already have The Hoff, Myers, Leo, Sekera, Weber and Regehr all comming back as of right now.
-
I know, as much as I have really liked his game, I don't think we can re-sign him. Too many guys knocking on the door in Ra Cha Cha.
-
I'm going with Myers based on potential. I know he's in Year 3 now but D-men sometimes take time to develop. You can't teach Tylers size.
-
He was a man among boys in junior. He reached the pro level and found out that EVERYONE he plays against is big and strong. He's not up against 17 year olds anymore. If you want to make this into a football analogy it's like CJ Spiller burning linemen in College. Then he gets to the pro level and realizes his breakaway speed is useless when the D is considerably quicker than college ball. It's not necessarly coaching but the stiffer/bigger competition. For the record I'm not trying to slight Kassian. I love the trade but it was having to give something up to get something.

BHAHAHAHHAHAHHAA Isn't this flat out saying you made a mistake? They both went in the same 2008 draft and Burke could have selected Hodgson but instead four picks earlier selected Luke Schenn. Now, less than four years later, he can't trade the 2008 6th overall pick for the 2008 10th overall pick That's ironic and hilarious.
-
I posted it right after the trade but there were several posts at that time. His last season in the OHL with Brampton: 53 GP: 43G 49A 92PTS 92 points in 53 games! This is not the QMJHL we're talking about, it's the OHL. He led Team Canada with 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists) during the 2009 WJC en route to a gold medal. I admit that I have not seen much of this kid live but the stats, combined with hearing so many Nucks fans upset with this deal make me think we may have just found our top line centre for years to come. You have to give up to get and I think we're going to be looking back on this in 2+ years thinking it was a great deal!

From the discussions I've been reading on Vancouver messageboards/comments in articles, they are extremely upset to let go of this kid. A fan base will known their young guys the best so that is a good sign.
-
I was waiting for you to chime in DeLuca.
-
In his last year full year of Juniors Hodgson scored 43 goals and 49 assists for 92 points in 53 games with the Brampton Battalion. Wow. I know it's juniors but the good ones always rip it up there first.
-
People are saying this is a short term pain for long term gain? Isn't Hodgson already made the leap to the NHL (he's played 63 games for Vancouver this year). That seems like short term divideds when comparing him to Kassian who's only been up for a handfull.
-
+1 Gotta give to get.
-
My initial reaction is pure shock. Definelty looks like Sulzer for Grags was a throw in. Sulzer is slightly older, brought up through the Nashville system and then traded to Florida. With Vancouver this year he's played 12 games and registered 1 assist and a +6

Who the :censored: is Alex Sulzer?!

Looking forward to sitting back and relaxing this weekend. I know it should be saved for next Friday but next weekend my wife and I are heading to a casino and hotel for the Friday night and have tickets for a magic show. I know I know, what is someone in their late twenties doing at a magic show? Then we're heading down to Buffalo for the Sunday game against Pitt followed by a night at the Hyatt. Things are good.
