How much better is Grubauer than Ullmark? Ullmark is coming off an AHL All-star season and he's looked great the limited time he's played for the Sabres during call ups. Grubauer has an NHL 2.34 and .922 in 102 Games Played Ullmark has an NHL 2.53 and .917 in 26 Games Played I think the Goals against can be explained away by the quality of the teams they played for. Sabres barely have had an AHL quality D over the past few years. I could see many being worried about giving the reigns to Ullmark to be the starter next year. But isn't there similar uncertainty with Grubauer? He's never played more than 35 games in a season. Myself, I keep the asset, sign someone like Bernier and hope Ullmark can handle 50 games. We have been grooming him for this roll for a couple of seasons now. Hell, JBotts gave Vegas a pick NOT to take Ullmark. Sign a veteran and see what the kid has. Edit - dudacek, if I wasn't so long winded I would have beat you by that much.

Circling back on the living situation. Recent article has Dahlin saying either his mom or dad will probably end up coming over and live with him for his first year.

Haven't seen a thread yet. NHL Scouting Combine begins today and lasts through Saturday. Located down at Harbor Centre and KBC. Here's a primer. https://www.nhl.com/news/2018-nhl-scouting-combine-preview/c-298792876?tid=277764372 Who's our Sabrespace guy who usually volunteers at this event? Any relevant news, photos, articles etc. would be appreciated.

Does Bogo just have this year and next left on his contract? Switch Bogo with Okposo and I might consider it.

Deleted my last post by accident. But ofcourse the NHL is marketing a top prospect. This is no different than the league doing it with McDavid/Eichel and then Matthews the next year. Not sure why you constantly want to pump the breaks on this guy. Who was the last top end prospect who came into the league and disappointed? I'm talking a year with a legit top prospect and not last year or Reinhart/Ekblad draft. This is also no different than what the NFL is doing with Baker Mayfield.

Agreed. He abused Risto with too many minutes this year. I hope Housley eases Dahlin in.
-
I'm also surprised he came right out and said it. But, at the same time, it's pretty freaking obvious any team in the league drafting first is taking him.

I don't recall olofsson at all but I think Borgen was a real possibility.

All good questions that have crossed my mind as well. They have the connecting Harbour Centre so it would make sense to build the new arena (if they go that route) in the place of the existing. But how do the logistics work? Where are they playing for those couple of years? There has been some strong reviews from outsiders (combine, WJC etc.) that love the fact they have this practice facility connected to the arena. I'm sure they wouldn't want to change that.

Agreed. If healthy, I think there's little doubt Baptiste will be in the opening lineup.

If he's only a slightly better Larsson I see no way he's a fan favorite lol. I think the ceiling and floor are accurate. I'm hoping his most probable outcome is a legitimate third line player on a very good team. I do realize this skews much more to the ceiling in this scenario but God it's almost June and I wanna dream!!

Ya I'm expecting around the second weekend in July. But some years it's on a Friday, some have been weekend. Us die hard out of towners have to book hotels and if necessary time off work in advance.

Dahlin, Mittlestadt, Asplund and 32 OA from this draft all on the ice together? I wish they would announce when prospect camp is with more advance notice this year.

Here's a decent write up on him despite it being dated. https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/2016/6/8/11861538/rasmus-asplund-2016-nhl-entry-draft-picks-prospect-profile-scouting-report-rankings-highlights His rankings going into the draft were a bit all over the place but many had him as a later first rounder that slid a few spots likely due to his somewhat smaller size. Sabres have him listed at 5'11 176 lb. He's going to have to add to that frame or fear of being rag dolled if/when he gets a shot.

This. Me too. Not going to wow you with a ton of points but I think he could be an excellent 3rd line centre in time. Plays a very well rounded game (ie. knows what the heck he's doing in his own zone).

For those that forget this was thought to be one of the key pieces to the Mark Pysyk trade with Florida back in the 2016 draft. The players traded were Kulikov going to Buffalo and Pysyk to Florida. But Buffalo moved up 5 spots with the deal as well. It was rumored at the time XGMTM really wanted Asplund.

Awesome!!

If San Jose makes the playoffs I think we would get the 1st in 2019. I think best case is they miss the playoffs the next two straight years.

Just checked out San Jose message board to read through their thoughts. Not many happy. Most seemed ok with 6 x 6 but feel that 7th year is a huge risk and extra million will impact any chance of landing Tavares. Other thing I noticed is many believe Tavares is very real possibility out there. Not saying they don't have a shot but a couple posters going nuts because it could take them out of Tavares sweepstakes.
-
I think one other aspect is this increases the value towards a trade. I'm not going XGMTM here but if Botts is looking to shake up and improve the quality of the core quicker this could be a nice asset in any deal. However, the way San Jose seems to be trending with ageing players I hope we keep that pick.
