I'm not knocking him he's by far and away my favorite NHL player. In fact I'm normally online defending his elite abilities to non Sabres fans. He will be C eventually, no one disputes that. Just don't think he is mature enough yet for it that's all.

I always assumed that a Captain in hockey is about having leadership, maturity, and basically setting the tempo for how the team plays. Not who is the best skater or scorer or face of the franchise. I'd be surprised if they named him Captain this soon that's all I'm saying. Ovi is both the face of the Caps and their Captain. Is he a great Captain?

My point is that I don't see what type of leadership skills he has to offer this October. 1C yeah absolutely sure but not Captain yet.

Jack's not ready to be captain. He can't be rolling his eyes and looking all angst durring interviews if he's the captain. Nor can his elite natural abilities rub off on anyone else.

I know this is a dominant thought process but I respectfully disagree on this. I don't think best player automatically means captain. ROR is definitly C material. We're gonna lock Jack up another 8 years anyway no need to rush it. When he naturally grows into it we just put ROR back as an alternate.

Overall we made huge leaps this off season. New GM and coach alone was huge. Plus improved blue line and Pommers back for some nostalgia (not why he was brought in I know but that's what it is for me) and yeah I'm psyched. Imagine if DB was still here? *shutters* I just hope that the dark cloud of negativity/ laziness/ mistakes/ injuries etc has been lifted when Housley was hired. I think the coaching change is going to be night and day for us ☺

I really like the idea of whoever the players vote on but my vote would be for ROR. He's already an A, plays both sides of the ice very well and does all the little things to help win us games. He's by far my favorite player besides Jack. I'd like to see ROR C Jack A Risto A

I agree not even close. One is a misplaced center the other a power forward. Why not compare Okposo and Kane if anything? I'm resigned to the thought that we will most likely lose Kane anyway barring a hometown discount.

Yeah I don't really understand this concern either. I'd imagine the only thing preventing JB from signing Vanek is what Vanek is asking for, not whether or not he'd be a good piece. 17-31-48 in 68 games last year, 12/17 goals were 5v5. He'd be a great short term addition for us.

Transitioning from DB to Housley alone should be good for like what, 8 points at least in the standings? It took 95 points last year and we finished at 78. I think we can make up those 17 or so between our new coach, full season with Jack and improved defense. Also this six year no playoffs streak is double what our previous franchise record was between 2001-2003. Historically we usually reach the playoffs.
