  1. EXACTLY! We seem to have this irrational mindset that someone with sorcery-like powers (Merlin, Gandalf, John Coffey) will just snap his fingers and all will be well with the world. [Otherwise, we MUST find someone to blame!] People, please be patient! I'm with you all. I'm not in some indifferent Cloud Nine bubble. I'm concerned too. I'm concerned that some of us in this forum might get it (and may not live to tell about it). Yet I am convinced that we will get through this - one way or another.
  2. That's been the biggest issue for me during this whole thing. Fear and worrying will probably kill more people than the virus itself. I've been doing my best to tune out all of the literally insane conspiracy theories out there. Granted, I take the news with a grain of salt - but this is where I will listen to well-established media sources (especially since it's bad enough for mass cancellations of public events). Never did I think that we would have to deal with depicted scenarios seen in Twevle Monkeys, Outbreak, and The Last Ship. Now it's here. Claude gave his two cents on this (with good reason). Now I am convinced more than ever that God is in complete control - and yet I also know that He gave us common sense to take necessary precautions.
  3. Those days of drill instructors getting in recruits' faces are on hold. Too bad GYSGT Hartman didn't live to see that.
  4. For a lot of us, this is uncharted territory. Most of the people who survived the Spanish flu over 100 years ago are just about all gone now. Yet, they got through it. We will too. Prayers going up. (BTW, if any of you need prayers, send me a PM.)
  5. If I remember correctly, didn't the league have to shut down over 100 years ago due to the Spanish influenza?
  6. I heard someone else say that when I was making a delivery this morning. I dismissed it. Truckers can be some of the worst carriers of misinformation.
  7. The memes on TP have clearly illustrated how panicked people have become.
  8. We need to restart the reading thread. If this helps, I deliver processed chickens to distribution centers.
  9. I guess we can't fault them for having future political aspirations. ?
  10. I see what you did there. Actually, I'm living for eternity.
  11. Actually, I do remember when they had Jon Pertwee on there. Oh, and my mother HATED Benny Hill. (Then again, she was a Gloria Steinem liberal - even though she really didn't want to admit it.)
  12. The odd thing about social media is that the people I thought were my friends in high school have proven otherwise. Some of them wouldn't delete my friend request, but they wouldn't confirm it either (which is very rude IMO). Even one of the who supposedly forgave me for how I treated her in the past (and who still bears an uncanny resemblance to Shirley Temple) left me hanging. And then this one gal who passed herself off as a believer (and ultimately became a pastor's wife) refused to accept my request - which was odd, seeing how we got along back in the day. Even had one guy leave me hanging. Probably was never a real friend to begin with (but I couldn't help but notice years later that his surname was one letter shy of one of Her Majesty's prisons). At any rate, I've realized that I'm better off without them. It's best for me to forget what is past, and press on toward the goal. I don't have time to beg for approval from people who were never truly my friends. I really don't care if they've always viewed me as society's offscouring/dregs.
  13. I had to think about that for a couple of minutes. TMI...
  14. Don't forget Doctor Who with Tom Baker.
  15. You're welcome. Most of the comments are very positive. Even more interesting is that Rush shared this video on their Facebook page.
  16. Grab a Kleenex and cut some onions...
  17. The pastor of the church we've been visiting over the past two months came and paid us a visit tonight. We're not to the point of applying for membership, but we have loved going there.
  18. I doubt that Ron Hextall would ever come here. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't remember him having a particular fondness for WNY.
  19. I know. I can't remember which season it was, but he led the league in 335 PIMs.
  20. I remember reading something a number of years ago where Barnaby's absentee father got wind of him being drafted. Mr. Barnaby called his son to congratulate him, to which Matthew hung up the phone without saying a word to him. I don't say that to excuse his troublesome behavior from past and present. I do agree with Zamboni and darksabre that he needs help; and, as most of you know from the past, I can speak with the authority of personal experience.
  21. It really is disheartening, to say the least. I don't even want to think about how much worse it can get.
  22. I wish I could have been at that game. That was a hit for the ages! For those who watched at home (like I did), did you feel like Soupy knocked you out by surprise as well? I know I never saw it coming.
  23. A lot of good ones out there. First one that came to mind was May Day. Someone else beat me to it, so I had to find something else:
