This price is obviously less than the rumored ask. I get that’s going to make some people unhappy that Adams didn’t beat it, but I never viewed Chychrun as a great fit, and I didn’t think the Sabres were going to acquire him. Between being left handed, injury prone, and a profile that’s a bit offensive leaning, I just don’t see him as a natural long term fit.

Erik Portillo traded to the Kings for a 2023 3rd Round Pick
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Good. Got something reasonably valuable for him. -
What is “Potential Returns” supposed to mean? Does he just mean that Sabres and Kings are looking at goalie trade options?
-
That’s not a bad return for Ekholm. Schaefer is a pretty good prospect. 1st round pick last season, big scoring winger.
-
Just curious, what does playing on the power play have to do with +\-? Hughes is +12 and Schenn is +9. That’s pretty close. They played together most of the time.

@LGR4GM You really beat @Brawndo with this?! Did you find his time portal to 5 mins in the future?

Sabres Claim Tyson Jost Off Waivers; Bjork back to Rochester
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree. It a matter of practicality. We try to discuss topics in the threads that are made for them. If this is ignored, it makes the message board pretty difficult to use. If you continue to discuss it in here, a moderator will come along and tell you the same thing, or they will simply lock this thread without explanation. It seems like you came to this thread simply to stir up negative reactions. Perhaps flying a kite yourself would improve your mood? -
Sabres Claim Tyson Jost Off Waivers; Bjork back to Rochester
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
There is already a thread about the Stillman trade. We don’t need to discuss it in a necro’d thread about the Jost waiver pick up. -
I’m not sure it’s a GREAT explanation. The statement boils down to “this player helps us win now, when we need it, and the picks don’t”. Thats a concept that I think everyone understands. The point of contention is the value of those picks as currency VS the quality of player they received. Is the quality of the player received equal to the trade value of those picks? Could those picks have been better used? I’d argue that they should have been able to get more for those assets. The explanation kind of stinks of “you think you know what those picks are worth, but you don’t, we know what they are really worth”. And also, I think it comes off as insecure. A GM who is feeling secure and great about their situation probably doesn’t feel the need to issue a public statement explaining why “no no, really, the thing we just did was smart, I promise!”.

Sabres trade for Defenseman Riley Stillman in exchange for Josh Bloom
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
In your opinion, this move does not make the Sabres better in any way because Stillman is not any good and is no better than Bryson. Thus the Sabres needlessly tossed away Bloom, regardless of how low the probability is that Bloom becomes a contributor. Do I have that about right? Its probable that Kevyn Adams simply disagrees with you. He probably feels that Stillman IS an upgrade over Bryson, and that Stillman can help the Sabres. Me personally, I don’t love this trade on the surface. But I don’t feel super confident that Bloom becomes anything, and I’ve never really watched Stillman play, so it’s kind of hard for me to feel anything strongly one way or the other. I feel this deal probably isn’t really going to amount to much in the end. -
I hope they grind out an inspiring 7 game win in the 1st round, the city of Toronto erupts in joyous celebration, then they get completely crushed and swept in the 2nd round.
-
I had to look up who Tanner Jeannot is. To me, that means he wasn’t worth giving up a 24 yr old reclamation project 3rd pair RD, a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 5th round pick for. They gave up an entire draft year worth of picks for this guy who has 5 goals and 14 points this season.
-
Even if you truly believe that the Sabres should make a big move to add a really good player to the lineup, what type player do they need? The Sabres are the 2nd highest scoring team in the NHL, with more high end forward prospects on the way. They don’t need to fill a hole at scoring winger. If they make big move, it should be to add a defender. They are like 22nd in the NHL in goals allowed and they don’t have much coming in terms of defensive prospects. So I don’t see how it makes much sense to be upset that they didn’t push all their chips in to acquire Timo Meier.

I think this looks like a lot for NJ to give up. Two 1sts (if that’s what it really is). Mukhamadullin is not a some throw in, 21 yr old 6’4” D who can skate, 2020 20th overall pick, who is doing really well in KHL and is probably ready to step into an NHL lineup next season. He might end up being a stud. Zetterlund is a 23 yr old good 3rd liner who probably won’t become anything more than that, but that’s useful, and he is still young so you never know.
-
By pts % the Sabres are actually in the 1st wildcard spot right now.
-
Wow, I thought he was a couple years older and a pending UFA. Maybe being a RFA cuts into it a little. But I think his stats DO support $8M+ AAV. Over the past 3 seasons he has 92G 182PTS in 190 games. If not $8M+, how much does that equate to in AAV?
-
That was Billie Ray Cyrus. You are thinking of Brooks & Dunn.
-
His AAV is currently $6.4. I’d guess his next deal will be over $8M AAV.
-
Possibly but unlikely.
-
That draft was before the Eichel trade though. I would hope that if they drafted Beniers, then they would have tried to target defensive help in an Eichel trade.
-
UPL had a big double hip surgery that it took him some time to come back from, but it was 4 years ago now.
-
I hope you didn’t interpret my citing of point % as an optimistic type of thing. I always sort the standings by point percentage. When teams haven’t played the same number of games, it gives the best picture of how everyone is doing.
-
Ok. So you really meant that they play 4 games against teams that are fully out of the playoff race? Still………The number of games they play against Group 3 teams is going to be at least 5, as they play 5 combined against Columbus, Philly, and Montreal, but it’s extremely likely that a few more will fall into this category as some teams fall out of the race later in the season.
-
I’m not sure how you are doing your counting. Sabres have 27 games remaining and 14 of them are against teams who are currently out of the playoffs by pts %.
-
That was really good.
