  1. Then you don't make the deal. The return must warrant the level of talent you are giving up.
  2. The closer you get, the more successful you will be. Nothing is ever 100% one way or the other. This is determinately a concern. You can end up in an endless loop like the Islanders and Oilers seem to be in. Not to beat this farm analogy to death, you have to know the exact time to harvest and when to bring the excess to market. There is no mistaking there is a delicate balancing act. I have zero faith in Regier being able to accomplish such a feat. My hope lies in the Sabres being able to find such a person and convincing them to come aboard.
  3. No one does. Which is why the path this team has been must be changed. Swapping similar parts in and out just doesn't get it done.
  4. Then you've made no progress. How does that proverb go "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." That "plot of land" represents many meals of over many years if it used to it's potential. A smart man will always choose the "plot of land" over a bag of perishables. You may quell the hunger for a few days, you just end up hungry again with nothing to show for it.
  5. You're not moving the team forward by trading goal in for goal. You have to tare it down and rebuild.
  6. It's not a concern at this point. IMO, it's about getting youth, picks and prospects in return. This franchise is going nowhere with Pominville and Vanek at worst it goes nowhere without them.
  7. They have enough cap space, this season and next, to take on Vanek and Pominville. Would the Preds be willing to make that big of financial commitment and do they think it would allow them to compete with Chicago and Anaheim? That would be a front office meeting I would love to listen in to.
  8. The Duck's have no reason to move Ryan this season. They have to be thinking Stanley Cup. Would the Duck's consider Miller a upgrade over the goaltending they have already been getting? Enough of an upgrade to move Bobby Ryan? I just don't think so. If anything, the Ducks are likely to look for a couple of traditional rentals. Next off-season may be a different story. They have about $10 mil with some roster spots to fill. They can easily move Hiller to make room for next season.
  9. There will always be those easily excited. Mostly because they haven't been around long enough to know better. Not in the near future.
  10. Miller will be 33 by the time next season rolls around. Is it the wise move to build around a 33 year old goalie? IMO, if Miller is going to ever win a Stanley Cup he will have to go a team with most of the pieces in place.
  11. Pure silliness. A grocery store analogy is pretty much spot on considering the Sabres cupboards are close to bare.
  12. Thanks. Damn that spell check.
  13. There was a lot of wishful thinking when it came to Myers early on. People saw the height and immediately started having dreams of a Chara-esq blueliner roaming the ice at the F'n Center. If Myers isn't traded, his development has to be priority #1. As you said, the move may be to focus on the offensive side of his game. Right now he is bringing nothing to the team. Making him one dimensional at this point would give at least that one dimension to bring to the ice. Take one aspect of his game and perfect it before trying to round the kids game out.
  14. The only exposure was your blind faith in a failed NHL GM. Hockey fans know the value of the draft and the damage that is done when a team continually fails at it. "Butthurt," a very childish response.
  15. No you didn't, it was a re-run of a game we have all seen dozens of times over the years. It could be worse, imagine how bad this team would be if Regier hadn't done so well in the draft over the years? The excess of talent and organizational depth really was on display last night.
  16. Are fans supposed to get excited by the few times this teams decides to put out an effort? Good for the fans at the arena that choose to express there displeasure vocally. Maybe the front office will get the message and start making significant changes. Shame on Terry Pegula and Ted Black if they let the fans display go unanswered.
  17. Alexander Sulzer, a 28 year old "prospect?"
  18. I doubt Regier would even consider trading Myers. On the other hand, I have no doubt trading Myers would be a top priority for any new GM.
  19. It's good to see someone else can't sleep in anticipation of such a tremendously important game. Or, did you have Taco Bell for dinner as well?
  20. Does that number take into account the number of players that were healthy scratches?
  21. I don't think this team is trying.
  22. Sorry, the money was their justification, it was still quitting. My point isn't about talent. You don't need talent in order to give a honest effort. As a leader, Pominville is partly responsible for keeping his teammates honest. IMO, this team rarely gives an honest effort. And for the record, I was the one banging the drum for Pominville to be given the 'C' before Craig Rivet wore it.
  23. Pominville, Vanek and Miller are the leaders of a locker-room that quit on their coach. Is there really an argument to be made against that. I get that fans are willing to accept criticisms od this team, except of course when it is directed at their favorite players. We are watching one of the worst teams in the NHL. There is plenty of blame to go around. Ruff had his faults and paid for them with his job. Regier has to shoulder his fair share of blame. And a big portion of the blame goes to the players themselves. Vanek, Miller and Pominville are the leaders of that group of players. To try and absolve them of any blame for the season we are watching is nothing more than fans protecting their favorite players. The original point was that Vanek and Pominville should be kept and possibly extended because they can serve some type of leadership/mentor role to younger players. based on the job they have done this season it shouldn't even be a consideration. The easy way out is to turn a blind eye when it comes to your favorite player. Blame your least favorite players and those having horrible years for all the ills. The fact is that Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers are not the leaders of this team. The players should have the influence in the locker room either had a bad influence or no influence at all. Either way the locker room is deep need of a thorough house cleaning which needs to include Vanek, Pominville and Miller.
  24. I don't think this roster gives a rats ass about Rolston. He is a just a guy standing behind the bench while they "play" out the string. Forget heart, this roster has no soul.
