Listening to the WGR guys this afternoon, they were talking about the incredibly weak free agent class this summer. As they listed the names I realized what a great position the Sabres can be in if they play their cards correctly. Vanek is far more appealing options than any pending UFAs. Any teams looking to make an impact this off-season will have to look beyond the free agent market. All it takes is a couple of GMs desperate for a big time move to drive the price for Vanek way up. Miller? They should try and move Miller before the Canucks make their move at goalie. Don't let the Canucks set the market.

As one of the few to be down on Stafford before it became the cool thing to do, IMO, there is no reason to just give him away. Hopefully he can have a bounce back year next season which will raise the trade value. Considering where Stafford is now, the return wouldn't be worth the effort.

I would like to see a Buffalo Sabres locker-room in the 2013-14 that includes Steve Ott, Ryan Clowe and David Clarkson. I'm not saying it would make the Sabres an instant contender or even a playoff team. I think it would go a long way to "change the culture" as they say.

Bringing in older veterans would be a monster mistake. This team is not going to be contending for a while, it may actually get worse be it starts getting better. 33 year old vets would be a feel good move that would have no long term positive effect on the franchise.

That is the value of adding assets. keep collecting those picks which will give more "ammo" as you say in making additional deals.

For those that will be scoreboard watching tonight. Florida at Tampa: I say hope for a Florida win in OT. Washington at Carolina: Both are a head of the Sabres. Best case scenario is a 3 point game. Winnipeg at Islanders: A Islanders win and they take over 8th spot and can put the Sabres 7 pts behind.

Possibly showcasing Hecht? 8 at home and 4 on the road. Most teams would kill to end the season with that stretch. I can imagine the pressure of home games will crush this team.

You do realize Kassian is coming back from injury. The best part about this "CoHo >Kass" is when "CoHo" becomes the new Drew Stafford in 2-3 years and posters can't wait until he is gone. You know it's going to happen because I am usually right. ;)

In a season like this all players are going to get hit with a bit of verbal shrapnel. I have to say, having been on this board for almost 8 years now, I do not recall the level if frustration being this high with the notable exception of Drury & Briere leaving.

This is true. Enroth is certainly good enough to backstop this team through a rebuild. The Sabres would be better off with Miller's cap space freed up and any assets they could get in return. Ah, the classic "if you don't like the players I like, you don't know what you are talking about" post. No player, not one single player, on this roster is or should be above criticism. Tyler Ennis is a nice young player. What he is not is a game breaker or a difference maker on a team in desperate need of game breakers and difference makers. Tyler Ennis would be a nice accent piece on a team with a better group of forwards.

Fans want an upgrade to the backup goalie position. Luongo would look good on the Sabres bench, money isn't supposed to be an issue. ;)

That seems like some the trade proposals you'll see here from time to time. If the Sabres trade away Ott, Foligno and Regehr at the same time the Sabres might as well change their logo to a ######.

I can't imagine any player on this roster qualifying as "can't afford to lose." Washington, Boston and Pittsburgh, a nice stretch of opponents to kill any hope before the April 3rd trade deadline. Good things come in 3's. The Sabres are on a 4-8 (including a 3 game win streak) stretch since their 3 game win streak at the end of February.

These two points would seem to contradict themselves.
