  1. Hackett? As I said, it would leave the Sabres with no viable options in goal. The Sabres can't afford to let a 24 year old prospect who has shown he can play at the NHL sit at home after trading away the "franchise" goaltender. it would be another PR disaster following the Regier retention. I'm not suggesting that Enroth would try to break the Sabres bank. The Sabres could however end up with a number and term they are not comfortable with, with no other options available than picking up a veteran off of the free agent scrap heap.
  2. Agree 100% Free agency for the Sabres should consist of roster filler at this point. Low cost, short term free agents easily disposed of when needed. They need to stay away from the 30 somethings looking to play out their careers and bank some money.
  3. In order to get a true "number one line" the Sabres would have to move some heavy duty assets like Miller and Vanek. Stafford just won't bring back the kind of return needed. Myers is an interesting case. I have said in the past I would gladly trade Myers for the right return. His play is currently on a three year decline. He is also only 23 years old and is far from being a another Mike Wilson. There is a lot to Myers that a team could work with and they have him under contract for the next five seasons, downside is he is nowhere near a $5.5 mil player at this point. Do you give up on Myers or try to rebuild Myers while also rebuilding the roster? I have been going back and forth on this question.
  4. I think it's funny you went from a specific number to a general range in an attempt to enhance your point. Gonchar is a 39 year old defensemen with limited options. There are not many teams out there willing to throw $10 mil at him. He's going to bank the money and ride off into the sunset. I am reasonably assured that money was the primary determining factor in his signing with the Stars. I am also reasonably assured that Gonchar knows he will not be playing for a Stanley Cup in the next two years being with the Stars.
  5. He can go home and play or sit out leaving the Sabres without a goaltender. That would be another negative PR hit for the Sabres.
  6. He's coming off a Gold Medal performance and the Sabres have no other viable options in goal if they trade Miller and don't re-sign Enroth, I'd say that is a pretty solid bargaining position.
  7. Was it "several million" or "$4MM" ? I think $10 mil to play in the US is a better deal than say $14 mil in the KHL. He didn't sign with the Stars because he thinks he can win.
  8. You can't trade Miller until Enroth is under contract. If they did I could see Enroth's agent driving his price up.
  9. I mentioned in another thread that a Ehrhoff for Couturier deal would be a deal I'd like to see. Couturier will be heading into his third season in the NHL at age 20. Ehrhoff is a good defenseman, he will be 31 before the next season starts. This is a deal you make when rebuilding, you get a player that is much younger, plays a position of need who has good size and plays an aggressive style.
  10. He believed it was the only team that was going to pay him the kind of money he wanted. Any rationalizing beyond that is simply romanticizing. Players will sign with bad teams for a lot of money. Not many teams are going to shell out $10 mil to a 39 year old, that is why he sign, not a glamorized idea that Gonchar things he can win with the Stars. This is a perfect example of a player choosing money over success.
  11. It also took a monster front loaded deal to sign Ehrhoff. And don't even get me started on Leino, front line money for a third/fourth line winger.
  12. Using the word "silly" and then posting this is hilarious. Players and, more importantly, their agents know which teams to sign with if they want a chance to win and which teams are an easy mark for a paycheck. The Sabres are the latter. Players aren't stupid.
  13. Fleury and Vokoun wish they had my glove hand. Anyway, I'm sure there would be complaints about my over-sized equipment.
  14. The only free agents the Sabres are going to be able to sign are guys just out for a paycheck. is that really the kind of players you want in a looker room that will be filled with mostly young players? Any free agent with pride and a desire to win is not coming to Buffalo.
  15. This years final four should have been billed the "Tournament of Champions" with the last four Stanley Cup winners reaching the Conference Finals, has that ever happened before. Boston and Rask look very strong, they look stronger than they did back in 2011.
  16. He will be a UFA and the Blackhawks are in bad shape Cap wise. Someone is going to pay this kid more than the $500K he made this season.
  17. Lame! The Pens really made an effort to step-up their physical game. A problem the Pens have had all season has been their defensive transition game. Too many times last night, and the season as a whole, they would be buzzing the opponents zone only to give up a 2 on 1, 3 on 2 or 3 on 1. It led to the Bruins first goal and a half dozen other chances. They are almost like a boxer that is dominating a fight only to take one on the chin because he forgets to keep his hands up. Chicago also raised their physical game and was rewarded for it. They matched the Kings physicality, if they can keep that up for the series the Blackhawks will be in really good shape.
  18. You can never have too many.
  19. I think you can despise someone without "wishing bodily harm." I can't remember the last time I heard an actual conversation between Sabre fans regarding the Buffalo Sabres where as soon as Regier's name is mentioned the first reactions weren't disgust and disbelief he still has his job. Work, with friends or just out during the day, when the topic is the Sabres and Regier's name comes up, it's the same thing every time. I say this right now believing it 100%, Darcy Regier right now is more despised than Tom Donahoe was. You guys are seriously underestimating the disgust Regier's retention has caused.
  20. I'm talking despised, there maybe other front office personalities who have run their course, IMO, none are as despised as Regier is in Sabres Nation. The disgust over Regier's retention was as close to unanimous as you can get these days.
  21. Adding Briere at this point would be nothing more than a PR move. A sad attempt to counter the negative reactions to another non-playoff season and the retention of Darcy Regier.
  22. LA (1), Pittsburgh (9), Boston (10) and Chicago (30) in hits this regular season. In the Playoffs? Chicago has stepped up their physical game, averaging 24.92 hits per game compared to 10.24 in the regular season. Which seems impressive until you look at the other remaining teams. LA - 17.63 regular season 41.23 playoffs Pitt - 14.98 regular season 29.00 playoffs Bos - 14.63 regular season 39.50 playoffs
  23. It makes me wonder how many current Sabres look at the situation that Regehr now finds himself in and are a bit jealous? What is this "Hope" you speak of?
  24. It's sad that the Sabres have put more effort into finding a "Social Media Coordinator" than they did a head coach.
  25. Is there another figure in professional sports more despised my their own fan base than Darcy Regier?
