The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?
deluca67 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Do people forget the Canes took the season series from the Sabres 3-1 with the Sabres only victory coming in a meaningless season finally? -
I wish I posted with such eloquence. ;)

Combined regular season and playoffs he was an amazing +511.

Introducing the newest member of the All-Scumbag Team. :censored: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9525784/cops-say-terrence-jones-houston-rockets-injured-homeless-man

This is why I say we are looking at a 4-5 year rebuild at least. Look at the players who feel have a chance to make the Sabres this season, and next. Figure a time line for the remaining prospects and we are looking at a 3-4 year process for a complete roster turnaround. 2-3 years (over lapping) of growing pains.

Not even Grigorenko or Mcnabb? Hackett?

After a season of criticism regarding a mysterious wrist injury that his head coach knew nothing about? Going into a new season with a new head coach and new system, Williams needs to be at every practice and needs to be a leader.
-
I will guess that LGR4GM could easily name another 5-10 prospects we would all love to see on the Sabres roster this season or next. Which means there are easily a dozen or so players projected to be on the Sabres this season that the fans would prefer not be. None of the remaining players are considered players this franchise can't do without.
-
First of all not many here would have given Bergeron any consideration prior to the reports of the injuries he played through. Second, I would love to complain about Sabres disappearing in the playoffs, problem is they don't make the playoffs for me to have anything to complain about. The last time they were in the playoffs everyone was complaining about Roy and Connolly, I was hardly the leader or loudest voice in that regard. Lucic? He was the Bruins 2nd leading scorer with 7 goals and 19 assists was a +12 with 102 hits in 22 games. I hope when the Sabres do make the playoffs again they have multiple players that disappear exactly how Lucic did. Kassian, I've openly talked about his need to be consistent. I hope you wear a back brace when you post. Carrying all that straw can cause serious injuries.
-
Actually I'm usually very specific on which players I'd like to see the Sabres acquire. There's no denying I have not thought much of this roster for some time and would gladly like to see any and all the pieces moved out. That's based up the lack of results from this current roster.
-
Splicing together two different conversations, that's almost clever on your part. Keep working at it, you'll get there kid.
-
Separated at birth?
-
Riding lawnmowers are for soft undersized centers. Real men like Zach Kassian and myself use these:
-
Is it time to change Mario Williams number to #19? Seriously, his pic should be the default avatar over at TBD.
-
So, the point of your post is to show you're not understanding the conversation? That's kind of odd.
-
It's sort of the point of a message board. To discuss where the Sabres where, where they are now and what they need do to get better. The Sabres are in one of the most dismal stretches in franchise history. I'm not Willy Wonka, I'm not here to candy coat things for you or anyone else. I post opinions based on my observations, as most do, I'll post positive when I see positive. I'm not going to ignore what i see in favor of some sugar coated wishful thinking.

The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?

It's possible fans may be over thinking Myers game. It may just come down to a 6' 7" 19 year old kid who could skate caught many teams off-guard. It is possible that Myers decline is a result of teams adjusting to Myers and Myers game not developing/adjusting to how teams are playing him. There was an interview a year or so ago on WGR, I forget who it was, it may have been a Versus guy. The topic was Myers and how teams would play Myers. The focus was on taking away time and space from Myers and making him rush into bad decisions and giving the puck up before he could start a rush. The point that should be taken is the Sabres need to systematically account for Myers by protecting (which may be the wrong word, but it's late and I'll us it) him in the defensive zone by making sure he has clear outlets and to make sure they can get the puck to Myers in the neutral zone where he can use his skating on the rush. I'm sure this was all discussed before, This is an important year for Myers. He needs to start the season fast and put the previous three season behind him. If he starts slow, the weight of those three seasons may be too much to carry. -
Thanks for adding to the conversation.

Of the 6 teams that have made the conference finals, 5 have won Cup Championships within the last 9 seasons. Including the last four straight Cup Champions. You're trying to argue parity in the game today by using all-time percentages. That logic fails you since it has no relevance to state of the league today. The Stars winning the Cup in 1999 and the five total Cups that Edmonton won mean nothing to this conversation. I will assume you understand the concept of parity. The NHL is not in a state of parity. You look at recent Cup winners, look at the conference finalists in recent years and you will see the same teams to be favored to playing for the Cup this year even with the re-alignment. Teams like Boston, Pittsburgh and Chicago are built for long term success. These teams will be, along with the Kings and Detroit the same teams we'll see come May/June in 2014 and going forward. Occasionally a lessor team will get hot at the right time or a team will come out of nowhere, that's not parity. Seriously, how many teams have a legitimate chance at a Cup in 2014? 5? 10? Is that parity?
-
You mean I watch successful teams and put an emphasis on what those teams do that make those teams successful? I think the point should be why doesn't everyone. If your not looking to the successful teams and what they are doing to be successful then what are you comparing what the Sabres are doing to? Riding a lawnmower? Gary Roberts is a genius. How many calories does that burn?
-
Bergeron will get a lot of play because he was a warrior in the playoffs. The Bruins became a different team once Lucic emerged. I'd take Lucic. Successful teams tend to have more talented players and tend to play a better brand of hockey than the bottom feeders. It gives you perspective when the home town team spends a decade mired in irrelevancy.

Fixed it for you.

New Jersey was a 6th seed with 102 points and the Kings were far from being a traditional 8th seed, not many 8th seeds have that level of talent. The Kings were a good team that fell to 8th. So 2011-12 had two teams that had previously won Stanley Cups. Which makes 6 of the last eight teams to make the Final Four had previously won Stanley Cups? Yeah, that's a sign of parity.
-
I believe he iced it down with his Stanley Cup ring.
-
How close is the parity in this league when the final four teams this season just happened to be he last four Cup Champions. The Sabres are in as bad a position as any team in the NHL. They are prospect heavy with not much on the actual NHL roster. Reasonable expectations are that the influx of youth won't yield results for at 2-3 years down the road. Your looking at another couple of seasons for that youth to mature.
