  1. Player wise yes, Cap wise it will take some maneuvering.
  2. I have a fairly used dollar bill that says Vanek ends up in Vancouver for Booth (salary dump), a #1 and a couple of prospects at the deadline.

    Tyler Myers

Myers rookie year, franchise defenseman, the contract and Chara comparisons all need to be thrown out the window. They are expectations of a player that just may not exist. Let Myers be Myers which looks at this point will be a very good defenseman. I don't see any hardware in his future at this point but that doesn't mean his is Mike Wilson. He's locked into a contract and will never garner the return in a trade that will accurately compensate for the investment the Sabres have in Myers. If the Sabres have one asset it's time. The have a whole lot of work as a franchise ahead of them so there is no need to make any decision on Myers in regards to trading him. Let Myers play and develop, and when the time comes when things start getting serious around here in regards to be a contender, re-evaluate him then.
  4. He has a long way to go. I believe there has been a progression to his game, albeit slower than fans would like, that shows, IMO, he is working on all facets off his game. Throw out names like Lucic, realistically, I can see Kassian becoming a better version of the player we all hoped Paul Gaustad would become, not is, what Gaustad was supposed to be.
  5. His skill set and build make him the type of player teams need to win in the playoffs, that's undeniable. Kassian's game is improving leaps and bounds. He certainly can play in the corners and fore checks pretty well. He is a big body that causes problems for defenders in the offensive zone. That and his improved play in the defensive zone where he is playing a more controlled game is part of the reason he is seeing increased minutes. It is clear that someone is working with him on his defenive zone positioning and stick work. He has become far more active with his stick, making sure it's in the shooting lane. I don't know about anyone else, but 10 goals at this point is a bit more than I would have expected. Marcus Foligno? I like Marcus Foligno. I also think this would be a better roster with Foligno and Kassian than it is with Foligno and Hodgson. When all you have is "I'm from Vancouver." is much more needed?
  6. If you really were than you know the BS you are posting is just that, BS. With the wonderful world of Center Ice and NHL.com I have been able to catch a great deal of Canucks this year, which is why I feel comfortable calling out the BS.
  7. That right there tells me you haven't been watching many Canucks games, if any. The kid has been getting his minutes and contributing which, barring injury, will continue into the playoffs which his game is tailored made for. For those with short term memory loss, the Black Hawks won the Stanley Cup due in large part to them amping up their physical game. If a team like the Canucks are going to go head to head with the Hawks and a team like the Kings they better have the horses that can match the physical game. Kassian brings that along with a bit of the offensive game. The Canucks are in a better position with Kassian in their lineup than they would be with Hodgson half-a$$ing it most of the time. Not if you watch the games.
  8. I hope you are talking about his love life because he certainly doesn't go both ways on the ice.
  9. I agree with this. Isn't Ennis supposed to be one of the guys that make other players better? When a player it is mediocre it's always the fault of the players that are not here. That is a huge stretch.
  10. The age old debate of a one dimensional player compared to a player that can bring more to the rink than just offense. You would think there would be a greater disparity when it comes to offense considering it's all Hodgson has to offer. They had a great conversation on Hodgson on WGR yesterday and pretty much nailed it on the head. Hodgson is a third line center who will get power play time. He is far too poor a defender which causes a huge mismatch for the Sabres when Hodgson plays against top line centers.
  11. That's just not true. Hodgson had a nice game last night and produced some offense. Good for him and the Sabres, lets not pretend it happens often because it's just not true.
  12. Adding Crawford will do more that franchise than adding another prospect. Crawford is locked into a contract and does not have a NTC.
  13. The Oilers three biggest needs are goaltending, goaltending and goaltending. I'm going to throw out a name out there, Corey Crawford. I can see this as an off-season move. The Oilers send the Hawks their #1 this year for Crawford. The Hawks already have his successor in place with 24 year old Antti Raanta and picking up a top three pick would be a coup.
  14. I am always amazed at how one of the greatest goalies of all time seemingly gets beaten by pucks caught up in his feet as consistently as Brodeur does. It's uncanny.
  15. Should Bob Probert be considered a "goon?" A 163 career goals would indicate he brought more to the rink than just a pair of fists. You are right with Schultz. He and players like Semenko ended their careers with more than just a handful of goals. I think Hartman fits in with these players.
  16. Not ever player who drops the gloves is a "goon". "Goon", IMO, represents a void of hockey talent. Barnaby, Kaleta, Fogolin and Korab do not qualify. Even Mike Hartman put up 43 goals during his NHL career. Goons are players like Scott and Peters and a lessor extent Rob Ray. "Enforcer" is a goon that plays for your team. Once traded they go back to being a goon.
  17. So, how many days till the "Hodgson needs to go!" thread?
  18. If there is a game that deserves only three pages of a GDT it was last night. I've seen more intensity in the line at the new Popeye's than the two teams showed last night. That was a game played by two teams that seemed like they couldn't care less that they were playing in a National Hockey League game. Any fan that showed up for that game deserves a refund.
  19. I've seen Stafford score better. Look how that turned out.
  20. Stafford does play about 5 more minutes a game than Kassian. I believe Stafford's increased physical play had been mentioned over the last couple of years. Unfortunately for Stafford and the Sabres it hasn't made Stafford a more effective player. Just like it doesn't put Stafford in Bobby Ryan's league as someone around here tried to argue. Kassian has played his best hockey under Tortarella. He has a lot of momentum right now. Kassian should be valued about $1.5 - $1.75 mil a season. Something close to Zach Smith's contract with Ottawa would be a good contract for the Canucks.
  21. Physical with some offensive ability? The Canucks have no need for those qualities come playoff time. Kassian is giving the Canucks exactly what they needed when they traded for him. His value is on the rise. B-)
  22. If Ottawa isn't offering Zach Smith I'm not interested. Kings are interesting, wonder if Jordan Nolan would be involved in any package?
  23. #10 for Kassian last night, a game winner. The kid could reach 20.
  24. File it under player safety.
  25. Because he deserved it. He should have been suspended as well.
