  1. You're sitting at the Sabres draft table, before the 1st pick is made the phone rings. The Ducks are calling to see if you are willing to deal the #1 overall pick for the 8th overall pick, 27th overall pick and Andrew Cogliano. Do you make the trade? I would try to swap out Cogliano for Silfverber, in the end either way I would make that deal.
  2. Why all the concern about Leino's goal scoring? Wasn't he all about puck possession?
  3. I have great sympathy for Islander fans. There must be the same frustration and feeling of helplessness we felt here when it looked as if Regier was never going to be fired. I look at a team like the Islanders, and also the Oilers, and think that the worst thing they could do is to hold on to their 2014 1st round picks. If I were GM of the Islanders I would tell the Sabres I am keeping the 2014 1st round pick and then I would find a team that may be looking to move up in the draft and see if I can get a young 20 something that is NHL either NHL ready of playing in the NHL right now.
  4. A "competent" GM would never take that deal. Grigorenko, Ennis & Hodgson don't have the value to be part of a trade of this magnitude. If the Islanders were to even consider trading Tavares you better be coming strong with solid NHL ready talent in your offer. The last message the Islanders need to send to their fan base is that they are starting over yet again. IMO, the Sabres don;t have enough NHL ready talent to get a trade like this done. You are probably looking at an offer including Myers and Girgensons to start. I don't see the Islanders overly interested in more picks. They need NHL ready bodies which the Sabres are extremely short of. Just look at their starting lineup from last night.
  5. To say the Sabres, especially Hodgson. generated anything in the third period of that game is naive.
  6. My office closed at 11:30 today so I'm sitting here during the "Blizzard" enjoying some Partner's pizza & wings along with the WWE Network, I'm watching a card from the Boston Garden from 1986, I wish the Buffalo Sabres could do something similar. I would pay $9.99 a month to watch the Sabres as well as have access to their video vault. I would love to be watching full game videos from the 70's right now.
  7. Kassian contributed as much to Vancouver's third period as Hodgson did the Sabres 3rd period.
  8. Things have gotten so bad with this roster that I no longer consider Drew Stafford a problem.
  9. Miro Satan's 73 pt & 75 pt campaigns in 2001-02 & 2002-03 were, IMO, more impressive than Briere's 95 when you take into account the guys they were playing with. Briere's 95 was only 11 points higher than Vanek's 84. Satan was 25 & 31 points higher than the Sabres 2nd leading scorer. If Satan had a Vanek, Pominville or Drury who knows how many points he could have had. Roy? After Briere jumped ship Roy came back with a solid 81 point campaign which gives him the same number of 80+ point seasons as Briere.
  10. Ville Leino is far worse than I ever expected him to be and my initial expectations were as low as I thought they could get.
  11. Toews and Kane are going nowhere. If you think the Hawks are going to move a contract your best bet is Hjalmarsson. He's set to make $4.1 million a year for the next five years and is not bogged down by a NTC or NMC. That would give the Hawks about $10 mil to fill a handful of roster spots and take care of their two RFA's if they chose to.
  12. A) how many 100 point seasons did Briere have? Zero! He did have 95 in a contract year (big surprise) and than his production fell off with the exception of the 09-10 playoffs. He was never a 100 point player despite many attempts my those on this board to inflate his stats to that stature. B) I've owned my misjudgment of Roy for sometime now. We all have at least one of those moments we would like to forget. Like you saying Steve Montador was a top four defenseman. More examples, TW trying to compare Drew Stafford and Bobby Ryan, drnkirishone comparing Tyler Seguin to Roy or every post by shrader. There are many moments we would all like to forget. ;)
  13. Agree 100%. They both skated with purpose and intent tonight. Hodgson for the most part was invisible as usual. Turnovers in the neutral zone and a couple of fumbled passes on the power play were the only times I noticed him. That and the fore check where he ended up sprawled on the ice in the corner for no reason while the defenseman had the easiest clear he'll have all season. Chad Ruhwedel, WTF, how about playing some defense on that first goal. I know it's Patrick Kane, that was not the time to fumble for a pen for an autograph. There is no way in hell Kane should have been allowed to get that shot off. I was surprised Ruhwedel didn't ride the bench for the rest of the night. Congratulations! It's a bigger & brighter world without the blinders on.
  14. How did the NHL become so lopsided? The Western Conference is loaded. Other than a possible Pittsburgh vs Boston match-up I can't think of any possible series in the East I am would look forward to. Interesting that if the playoffs started today each conference would have 1 team under .500. And while every team in the West will have a positive goal differential, 3 teams in the East are negative and 1, Montreal, is even.
  15. They haven't even finished pouring the concrete for the new foundation and people are ready to move in. Rushing the process will hinder future success. The Sabres are on the right track, the early part of the journey will be extremely bumpy, it gets smoother the further down the line they go.
  16. Actually it was a reference to you, it was a reference to the hoards on this board that defended Connolly, the Stafford contract and the Leino signing. Much like the the current Hodgson debate my opinions make people feel incredulous despite the established track record.
  17. Actually, Briere is earning a bunch of those "pennies" to not play for the Flyers anymore.
  18. He and Omark are starting a band.
  19. Yeah! I file this right with those post from those that said the Stafford contract was good value and Leino was a great free agent signing because of his puck possession. Briere and Connolly, the two most prolific 100 point scores (according to this board) to never score 100 points in a season. Hell, Briere cashed those imaginary points into $52 mil.
  20. I'm sure you recall at the time of the pick how the conversation was all about Kassian being such a departure from the Regier M.O.. Many felt it was a pick in response to the criticism of the Sabres organization for having a forwards ranks that was too small to win in the NHL. It true Regier fashion he flipped that player, which I doubt he ever felt comfortable with, for a player that fit what he was trying to build. The Briere/Connolly imaginary point calculator resurfaces.
  21. What does "50-60 point scorers" have to do with Hodgson?
  22. I honestly believe that when it comes time for this team to win that there will be no place on this roster for Cody Hodgson. He is an average talent on a team with no talent offensively. He has little if any intensity and spends most of his time on the ice invisible. He is a perfect Regier Era style player. Like any player there is the possibility of a turnaround. I just don't see any of the qualities in him needed to make that happen. I just don;t think he cares enough. If I'm wrong down the line I'll admit it. I'm 100% sure right now that I'm not.
  23. How do the Sabres get to the Cap floor? Smartly I hope.
  24. Connolly needs to go! Stafford needs to go! Leino needs to go! Hodgson needs to go! Anyone else noticing a pattern? Like the previous three times, I'll wait for the rest of you catch up ;)
  25. This from one of the mainstays of the tinfoil hat brigade.
