  1. Thanks. There are about a dozen other things that can be added to that list. Chicago was fortunate to land two of the very best forwards in the game which affords them to play a different style. You can't plan on any picks becoming the very elite of the NHL. You can identify a path and build accordingly. The Bruins model is style that would go over very well in Buffalo. It fits the city and the fan base. It can also be very successful if done correctly.
  2. Thanks for the input Darcy, we've seen this exact plan fail for decades now. It's time to get aggressive and try something different. It's funny how suddenly Paul Stewart's opinion is one to be respected. Any more third rate former officials have blogs that people want to post. There is a reason he is on Hockey Buzz.
  3. Again, the idea of "building around" a player is a fallacy. You build "with" players not "around" players. Lucic is a big part of a team that has won a Cup, played in another finals and has become a perennial Stanley Cup contender. Lucic is a unique talent I would love to see in a Sabres uniform.
  4. I advocate adding Lucic to a forward ranks that will include Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and David Perron. The Oilers become a team that others will need take notice of. Part of building a team is maximizing assets. Yakupov and Nugent-Hopkins will never bring to the Oilers what Lucic can. You end up with a stronger more effective core.
  5. Clipping the order card off of the carton of milk for tickets to the Sabres open practice. Getting up early to take the #5 Niagara down to the Aud and stand in line longer than the practice was just to see those players I watched on TV in person.
  6. I wouldn't be. 2 for 1 can be a great deal depending on the one. You don't think the Oilers would give up Nugent-Hopkins and Yakupov (two #1 overall picks) for Lucic?
  7. By securing one the most effective and unique talents in the NHL today.
  8. Look around the league. The idea of picking one guy and building around that player is dead and gone. You amass talent. Lucic is a talent unlike any other in the league right now and he is only 25.
  9. You shouldn't let the Bruin jealousy blind you to some of the better players in the league. Lucic is the equivalent of everything Sabre fans have been begging for in a player for decades now.
  10. The job the Canadians did of not letting the Bruins dictate play can not overstated. That said, the Sabres do not have an asset available to them I wouldn't give up for Lucic.
  11. This. Gare and Schoenfeld being traded was the first real taste of sports related heart break.
  12. IMO, the Penguins should give serious consideration to moving either Crosby/Malkin. This is a team that is seriously underachieving and in desperate need of a wake-up call. They can hang on to both and find themselves in a tough situation like the Canucks are in with the Sedin twins.
  13. I'd trade the Sabres #1 pick this year and next for Lucic. I doubt the Bruins would take it though. Monster/25-30 goal scorer, what's there to like?
  14. Konopka taking "performance enhancing drugs" is like a guy with a one inch johnson taking Viagra. It just doesn't make any sense.
  15. "Contenders?" I did not realize that Watkins was so solid against the run.
  16. I like the idea of McCarron in the 5th or 6th round. I don't like the idea of Brent Musburger creeping around the stadium.
  17. What?
  18. I can see the signs at the stadium now "Kounadjio Unchained!"
  19. This is a solid gamble to take here. Slight risk for possibly a big reward.
  20. Are you seriously trying to say the situation teams like the Bills, Lions and Browns are in is the same as a team like the Saints? I will assume you are kidding and you know the difference between building and fine tuning. Otherwise would be way too sad. Likely two top 10 picks and a fourth is what the Bills will end up paying. For a price tag that high, there will be a ton of pressure for Watkins to come out of the gate flying and producing from down number one.
  21. The Saints know they have to go through the Seahawks to get back to the Super Bowl, adding a receiver makes sense, more so if you take into consideration they added Bryd to a defense that gave up the fifth least amount of points last season.
  22. The first round showed how bad franchises continue to be bad. Bills - three draft picks spent on 1 wide receiver when they need help across the board. The Bills gave up the 5th most rushing yards in the league last season and the division now has Chris Johnson. Lions - spend another 1st round pick on a wide receiver when they have the 18th ranked defense and play in a division against Cutler and Rodgers. Browns - they burn a 1st round pick on a CFL quarterback, Bad teams get blinded by the flash when they should be focusing on substance.
  23. Jackson is 33 and Spiller has some nagging health issues, is a running back in the 2nd or 3rd round out of the question?
  24. I would like to see the Bills focus on defense. They had a decent defense last season, continue to build the defense and establish that defensive identity. The price to into position to draft Clowney is likely too steep. If Mack makes it's past Cleveland at #4 I would take a shot at Oakland's #5 pick. If all plays out as predicted and the Bills stay at #9, I'd like to see them pick DT Aaron Donald or S Haha Clinton Dix with the pick.
  25. Watching ABC news when this crawled across the bottom the screen, Dow Jones hits all-time high......Republicans block legislation to raise minimum wage......, Anyone else find this funny yet incredibly sad? I see that Larry Quinn has won a seat on the Buffalo School Board. What is the over/under on how many months it will take for new uniforms to be announced?
