  1. Mike Richards is a very interesting possibility. It's Drury/Briere all over again.
  2. The Sabres were dead last by 15 points, there is no one "around us."
  3. People laughed when I mention Chris Butler. He would be a decent short term, I'll repeat, short term solution. If veteran defensive depth is a concern, Butler is a cheap viable solution.
  4. Ott and Brian Boyle are still out there. I'd be happy with either, or both.
  5. There is a bigger picture that needs to be stated. The Sabres just signed the Captain of the Montreal Canadians and a solid NHL defenseman with plenty of career left just waived his NTC to play for the Sabres. That has to account for something going forwarded. I would not be surprised if these two moves open up other possibilities, with players looking at the Sabres a little differently.
  6. I'll take the player that waived his NTC over the player that didn't want to be here.
  7. Different Gionta, you get your Cup ring
  8. This would be a stunner. I just can't get my head around the idea that Stastny would be willing to go to team that is pretty much 3-4 years behind in the process then the team he just played for. Unless he wants he to be the man. All the other options I've read and heard for Stastny is him pretty much slotting into the #2 center spot on a contender. Any hope for Stastny has to be tied up in his desire to be the #1 guy. Which here in Buffalo he would be by a long shot. Any interest in former Sabre Chris Butler? Should be fairly cheap and is still only 27?
  9. This is what you get when old world philosophies clash with modern times. There is no place for religion in 2014 and going forward. You simply can't base laws or policies on 2,000+ year stories and fairy tales. The owner of the Hobby Lobby don't believe in contraception, so they don't have to follow mandates? Are the owners of the Hobby Lobby any different then those nut jobs that don't believe in modern medicine at all? If a owner of business believes in the power of faith only can he now deny his employees all medical benefits? I guess now they can decline to cover vasectomies as well? I proud to say I have never stepped foot into a Hobby Lobby and they have never made a penny of me. If they decline to fully cover their female employees I hope the female employees walk off the job and female customers take their business elsewhere.
  10. Things just feel different with Murray. I think there is going to be a "holy sh!t" signing tomorrow.
  11. Nor should he. I'm certainly not advocating he should.
  12. It doesn't invalidate the point that the Sabres are a small market team that tosses money around like a large market/revenue team. Are the Sabres paying for the Erhoff buyout or are the larger revenue generating teams. If I'm the owner of the Rangers or Bruins I would definitely be questioning how revenue sharing is working compared to the spirit of revenue sharing.
  13. Didn't Murray move two second rounders and a prospect to the Kings just four months ago?
  14. What did he say that was incorrect?
  15. It's like poker, with a chip and a chair you're still in the game. With a team like Buffalo that has multiple picks and a bevy of prospects they should be able to convert some into NHL ready players with Cup experience without "throwing away the future", that response is a bit like chicken little screaming that the sky is falling. If there is a need to add some Cup rings to the roster, it shouldn't be too difficult or expensive, again, the Flames did it with a third round pick. Both have modified NTCs, it may be a bit more difficult for the Sabres make deals for them happen. The Sabres should target the Hawks 2015 RFA's, Branden Saad and Nick Leddy, two players likely to get decent raises after the 2014-15 season. Both are in their early 20's with Cup experience. Players that can easily become core players for the Sabres.
  16. Do you even read the posts? You can acquire players with Stanley Cup rings in trades, you don't have to feed on what falls off of the NHL sharks on the bottom of the sea floor. You don't have to sign players scrambling for that last paycheck. You can pick up players that still have hockey left in them. more than just telling stories in the locker room.
  17. Would a 34 year Lecavalier accept a trade to Buffalo, I doubt it. As to the move it'self. I would want something else from Philly for taking on the cap hit. Throw in Couturier with Philly getting some mid-level picks and prospects in return and it;s a good deal for the Sabres.
  18. Are they value? Or is all their value already gone? If you want to feed off of the NHL sharks, then target their current roster and make deals that make sense. Chicago is about to spend $24 million a year on two players, I'm sure they are going to make a couple of moves. The Flames picked up Brandon Bollig for a 3rd round pick. If you want to pick up players with Cup experience there are better ways to do it. There are better options. That is the end goal is it not? To bring in players to help you win or help turn your younger players into winners? Trades, free agents & spending Pegula's money, it all has to make sense and be done smartly in order to reach that goal.
  19. In other words, these are the grizzle, the trimmed fat off of real contenders rosters.
  20. Not good enough to win with. Just burning more of Pegula's money.
  21. That's not an impressive list. Roster filler at best.
  22. Who is this 'Darcy" you speak of? Erhoff was also a 32 year old blueliner on a team stockpiling young defensmen.
  23. There was speculations over the last couple of days regarding ongoing talks with the Leafs. I wonder if Ehroff for Gunderson was talked about or possibly Tim Gleason coming back in return. It leaves (no pun intended) me thinking if the Sabres are positioning themselves to take on a couple of Gleason like contracts. Short term contracts of value other teams are trying to dump to create cap space. It could be a good way yo acquire some extra picks.
  24. A fitting end to one of the worst contracts in franchise history. In what may have been one of the worst off-seasons in Sabres history, signing Ehrhoff & Leino. Ehrhoff is a good defenseman, not great. He had zero chance of living up tot the value of that contract. I have little doubt that Ehrhoff will go to a contending team and be a great help. All that's left for Murray to do is find trade partners to dump Stafford & Hodgson and collect some more picks in the 2015 draft and we are looking at an off season to remember.
