Chara was definitely at a high level in Ottawa, IMO, he became that "force" with the the B on his chest. One of the few UFA's in recent year well worth the money spent, possibly even under paid.

I look at Tyler Seguin and wonder "what if" the Sabres had the assets (and the GM) to make that deal when the Bruins put him on the market.
-
Regier type guy, absolutely. I look at Hodgson, Myers and Stafford and see the same mistake made by the so called patient fiscally responsible former GM. All three players were paid well before they were ready and non of the three has earned the level of contract they currently have. I have to wonder what type of players they would have become if they had not cashed in so early.

The Chara - Pronger comparisons weren't accurate either until Chara turned his game around. It took the move to Boston for it to all come together for Chara. I agree that Myers needs that change of scenery at this point. I wouldn't even consider a deal for Myers to Anaheim unless Silverberg's name is involved. I liked the kid in Ottawa, there is a ton of talent there. At 24, he should be coming of age over the next couple of seasons so he should fit right in with all the young talent the Sabres will have.

For his own sake I hope Stafford moves on, either in a trade or as a free agent. The best thing for him is to get into a situation without all the history or baggage.

It did not work 200 years ago because it was a different time and a newly born nation had different needs.

The Articles of Confederation served it's purpose as the current Constitution has. It's time to evolve to that next level and move forward. IMO, it can't be done under the strain of the current Union.

I was thinking something more extreme. IMO, it's time to dissolve this partnership known as the "United States" as it is known today. Have each state become a completely separate entity with a shared military paid for equally by the individual country/states. Dissolve the Presidency, Congress and Supreme Court in favor of a Board of Governors type meeting to resolve any continental issues and issues between county/states. Each country state can determine their own way of picking their Board of Governor. All good things come to an end at some point, I think the "United States" is at the end of it's run.

As every day passes by I believe more and more that the current political system in the United States is outdated and needs to be replaced. Leeches aren't used much in medicine like they were 200 years ago, so why do we continue to let leeches control the government. With all the advances we have seen in medicine, technology and pretty much every other aspect of our lives, IMO, it's time to run this country in manor suited for 2015 not 1776.

It must be difficult for him with his head constantly in the way. For the next 2 years Democrats need to follow the President's lead and jam all that has been accomplished down the Republicans throats and take ownership of the middle class. They need to be aggressive and force the Republicans to respond. Once the Republicans start talking they will bury themselves.

Realistically, how many of the players the Sabres draft this year in the first and second round are going to have a real impact in the NHL. Of their first five picks, if two have a real impact it's a good draft. Packaging the picks and moving up is the best option. If they can't, I think moving the picks to get additional picks/prospects instead of drafting #25 & 29 is the way to go.

50 goals and 120 points over his first 3 seasons. The talent is there. If there is a problem it's in the heart and in the head. The only thing I ever thought Hodgson brought to any team was his natural offensive talent. IMO, the game has gotten too hard for Hodgson and he is not willing to put the work in to make it happen. It's not like Hodgson is creating but the points just aren't coming. Most nights he isn't noticeable. Hodgson has played om 44 of the Sabres game. I has to look that up because I could have sworn he has missed more games this season. I have no doubt that the circumstances the Sabres are currently under provides an excuse for any player that is wants to take. Money aside, this franchise has made a huge commitment to Cody Hodgson and Hodgson has pretty much bailed on the team. He's not may favorite player, but he sure is a hell of a lot better than 2 goals and 4 assists over 44 games no matter who his linemates are. He just has to wan to be.

Two reasons. First, a rebuilding team can always use additional assets. Second, the hope is that the 2016 pick(s) would be in a better position than the the high 20's where it looks like they will end up. It's all about maximizing value of the Sabres asset portfolio.
-
If things stay close to where they are now and the Islanders and Blues picks are at the bottom of the first round, dealing those picks for 2016 1st round picks and picking up additional assets to teams looking to get back into the 2015 1st round is an interesting option.

I've had a hockey crush on Sean Couturier since his rookie season. If the Flyers start to tear things down I would love see to Couturier end up in a Sabres uniform. He would be a solid 3rd line (possible 2nd line someday) center.
-
Draft position aside, what the Islanders are doing this season has to give hope to Sabres fans and the direction this team has taken.

Imagine where the world would be today if we didn't have to wade through all the bull$hit. The lives lost and trillions of dollars wasted. If were able to put all these resources wasted over the last 60-70 years into education and the sciences we would all be driving flying cars to the moon for vacations and cancer would be cured by simply taking a pill.

Sadly, Hodgson was supposes to be a center to help create offense. A major fail of the Regier Regime. . Hodgson has talent, just not the heart to compete at this level. There was a reason why the Canucks couldn't wait to get rid of him.

2.32 gaa and a .918 sv%. He's having a really nice year. A huge part of the Canucks resurgence this year.

Game Discussion Thread GDT: Wild At Sabres 1-15-2015 MSG 7PM

As bad as last night was, I am in no way looking back at the era of stagnation with any fondness. I'll take last night as a stepping stone to something greater rather than some meaningless wins in a mad dash to 9th place. Then why post on a hockey board? Fans care, they just understand it's all part of the process. Booing or complaining about this team is like booing and complaining about a new born who doesn't walk or talk yet. -
Effort. During this recent stretch of futility I've witnessed this team giving up which is really unsettling. We all expected this team to be out-gunned and out-classed on most nights. The one thing I thought this team could bring every night is hard work and effort. The effort as of late has been really disappointing. That falls on the coaches.

You think they would take Hodgson back? We can throw in Stafford. Which is worse, the kitten or the scarf? I'm going with the scarf.

The Oilers weren't "tanking." With the talent they have they expect to be a playoff team. They need NHL bodies.
-
It turns out I also train with Gary Roberts, that is my favorite drill, I am awesome at it.

If Edmonton thinks Myers can be a top pair defenseman I think the Oilers would definitely make that deal.
