  1. I would go with all 14 non-playoff teams having an equal chance. Make it a true lottery. All top 14 draft positions are decided at random.
  2. How many years were the Penguins bad before they drafted Crosby? The Blackhawks made the playoffs once in 10 seasons before Kane & Toews arrived. The Kings missed the playoffs 6 straight seasons before turning things around. The best teams in the NHL today didn't "tank" to get to where they are today and I doubt their fans where cheering the opposition. A lot of "people" are being called an embarrassment to the city. The "fans" portion is up for debate.
  3. Because Red Wings fans were hoping and cheering for last place so they can get Steve Yzerman back in 82-83? What a load of crap. If you can't reconcile the difference, I'm not going to waste my time.
  4. I would love for Pegula to stand at center ice and say "I'm sorry, we should have made changes earlier, but that's no reason to be d!cks about it" and drop the mic and walk off the ice. It would be the greatest moment in Buffalo sports history. Like something more substantial than an adjustment of percentages.
  5. I wouldn't subject the players to ceremonial displays of "appreciation" for fans that actively root against them. If I'm Zach Bogosian, Girgensons or any other player, there is no way I'm skating to center ice raising my stick.
  6. I'll agree with you, sort of, if there is a fan base that "deserves" last place, it's this one. Hopefully this embarrassment will expedite changes to the lottery to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
  7. There is a huge difference between accepting that things have to be a certain way and going into the home building wearing Coyote gear or defaced Sabres gear and actively rooting for your team to lose. I don't give a rat's a$$ how much you paid for a ticket, it doesn't give you the right to act like a scumbag. I applaud Mike Weber and I have never been a Andrew Peters fan but in this case he is dead on. Hopefully last night will be a rallying point for the guys in this locker room causing them to go on a tear over the final 8 games. There are just enough winnable games for the roster to give a big FU to the "fans." If the Pegula's have any "Fan Appreciation" scheduled for April 11th, I hope they have the good sense to cancel them.
  8. Not sure how the tie breakers work, I somehow squeaked my way to the 2nd round in Gold. Definitely got lucky.
  9. Game On!
  10. For sake of conversation, let's bank one of the two top picks. After that pick what is the Sabres next move? They still have a #1 and some 2nd rounders to play with. Do the Sabres have enough assets to move back into the top 10? top 5? #3? Or do they just draft according to Hoyle? Thoughts or preferences? I'd like to see them try and move backup into the top 10 if possible. I can see a team like Dallas or Colorado maybe moving out of the top 10 to pick up some additional picks.
  11. I believe if Vanek wanted to remain a Buffalo Sabre he would be a Sabre today. I think Regier made the best trade possible he could under the circumstances. Not many teams are going to give you young NHL stars for a rental player. If they wanted to trade Vanek 2-3 seasons earlier, I believe the return would have been more towards NHL ready talent than picks and prospects. Again, the once Regier allowed things to get to a certain point, his hand was forced.
  12. Vanek wasn't coming back. As always, Regier let a situation get to a point where his hand gets forced. Trading Vanek wasn't part of a "tank." It was panic, as in "dear god we can't let another player walk and get nothing in return." The "tank" didn't start until the SS Status Quo had all but sunk.
  13. I have no doubt he was, I do very much doubt he is aware of that fact.
  14. I do not believe now and I did not believe then that what Regier ended up doing wad intentional or part of any planned "tank." Going into Lindy's last year with the team Status Quo thought they had a playoff team. The wheels flew off that season early and Regier did what he always has, reacted and made poor decisions. The "tank" wasn't some grand master plan, their plans blew up in their faces and they were left with no choice.
  15. IMO, if the Sabres wanted to, they could have traded Miller, Vanek and Pominivlle much earlier than they did with term still on their contracts and made real hockey trades. Players in for players out. It is true that there wasn't much on the farm to sweeten deals. Teams weren't banding the door down for Luck Adams. That in it's self is another condemnation of the Regier era. I believe it down to my core, that if Terry Pegula would have cleaned house right away this roster could have turned over and we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. All the hopes fixated on finishing 30th.
  16. I was pulling for a change of those in charge of the direction of the franchise and a turnover of the roster. The problem is those changes came way too late which is why we are here where we are today. The was a period of time where the Sabres could have unloaded, Vanek, Miller and Pominville and the return didn't have to be prospects and picks. I believe most felt the core stayed intact way too long. We are where we, it didn't have to be this way. No turning back now. I realize that, I guess when I was calling for this franchise to be torn down to the studs, I didn't realize how ugly it would get and how empty I would feel. I mean this 100% from the heart, this season and last has taken a lot of of me as far as being a Sabre fan. I watched last nights game and I doubt I said five words during the game. Just a lot of sighs and head shakes according to my wife. It will likely be the last game I watch for the rest of the year.
  17. Make sure the adjuster is thorough and ask what happens if mold develops as a result of the leak. Fixing the leak and the cosmetic look is one issue, residual effects like mold can be a muther-f'er down the road.
  18. It likely wasn't going to happen for Stafford or Myers here in Buffalo and Kane has yet to play a game for the Sabres. I don't consider this robbery. This trade was a long term investment. The Sabres bought stock in Kane not to get rich quick but to extract dividends over the long term.
  19. OV, after a slow start he is tearing NHL goal-tending up. A couple of seasons ago there were grumblings that OV was on the decline. Back to back 50 goal seasons will put that to rest. I like Crosby and love Stamkos, right "now" OV is taking things to another level.
  20. Nashville is an interesting story. A couple of seasons ago they lose Ryan Suter and end up drafting 4th overall and here they are today a legit Cup contender 3rd in the Western Conference. For those hoping for a quick Sabres turnaround, Nashville offers a little hope. Different circumstances overall, still a glimpse of hope.
  21. There is nothing redeemable about this season. I don't think anyone ever imagined it would end up like this, be this bad and difficult to watch. There's just no hockey talk any more. I turn on WGR and it's all about the "tank." Lindback is carrying a .930 save percentage and the Sabres may have played spoiler to a rivals playoff chances and all you hear or read is how it hurts the chances of the "tanks" success. If it happens it happens, it's unavoidable. That doesn't mean I'm going enjoy it or cheer for it. You continually prove you know nothing about me or have the slightest understanding of what I have been saying all this time. Maybe the bliss you feel is your own ignorance. Something to think about.
  22. I guess two seasons of watching the worst version of this franchise in it's 40+ year history changed my perspective. I was wrong, this price is not worth any player. These past two seasons haven't instilled hope but drained the enjoyment out of being a Sabre fan. There is no relief holding onto a dream of some magical player appearing in the blue and gold and everything will be all right. Light at the end of tunnels more often than not end up being trains. Selling your soul in theory ends up feeling far different when it's actually happening. I'm disgusted at what's been happening and disgusted with myself for once thinking that this could possibly be the answer. It was fool's gold then and fool's gold today. And we both know how fans are. Like Sammy Watkins carrying the cost of two #1 picks, whoever the savior ends up being is going to carry these past two seasons with him. Fans can deny it, deep down inside they know it to be true. I am glad I entertain, it is the primary purpose of the board. But make no mistake, everything I post comes 100% from the heart and is 100% what I feel. I can say this with pride.
  23. I don't consider those routing for last place "fellow fans." "The future" doesn't rely on 1 draft. As the man said, "don't believe the hype." This season is dirty, wrong and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It didn't have to be this way. I look at the Calgary Flames and they somehow managed to turn their team over without subjecting their fans to what ever you want to call what's happening here. Putting the future of this franchise on the shoulder of 1 pick smells of desperation. I truly hope whichever kid they end up is prepared to carry this franchise on his back. Anything less and the kid will be crucified by masses. It's not that he may be the next Crosby, it's he has to be the next Crosby. One luxury the Savior will not have is fan patience. I know I am a crusty old-timer. I still remember a time where finishing dead last was a source of embarrassment and doing it back to back seasons wasn't even fathomable. Not sure when it became some badge of honor fans are willing to wear. Again, it just feels dirty.
  24. The only surprise is that more posters don't feel the same way I do. To sit back and watch the entire idea of being a Sabre Fan bastardized just isn't in my nature. I guess it is part for some. Many of us haven't put in 40+ years with this team just to end up rooting for the franchise to just lay down and die. No player is worth that not even the next Crosby or whoever.
  25. It's to a point now where I am routing for the Sabres to reach 28th place. I hope Lindback leads this team to a 12-0 record over the final stretch. Watching posters melt down and watching as heads explode will be far more entertaining than anything an alleged savior can bring.
