  1. I'd make that deal in a heartbeat as well. Damn, Lucic really F'd the Sabres if Miller's injury was the only reason the deal didn't get done.
  2. How can you tell Drew Stafford sucks? It's one of the few things myself and other posters can agree on.
  3. It has to do with the raising of ticket prices the past two seasons. From what I understand, it was done to qualify for the revenue sharing. Considering the vast resources available to Pegula, I doubt the money received through revenue sharing will make any difference to Pegula or the Sabres ability to spend. So why is the additional financial burden put on the fans so Pegula can collect money that he clearly doesn't need? What happened to "just drilling another gas well?"
  4. I don't consider front loaded contracts (actual cash out) as "non-hockey." I wasn't taking paint and rug money into account.
  5. To Kill A Mockingbird is a great movie for trivia, not may people know Robert Duval was in that movie. Did anyone know that Ted Knight was in the original Psycho?
  6. Where did anyone say Pegula shouldn't be allow to make money. You're confusing the issues. If the business plan is to throw caution to the wind and spend spend spend, the top revenue teams shouldn't be expected to subsidize that team. It makes no sense to give a team $10 mil that is spending $30 million over their revenues (numbers are for example, not actual numbers involved).
  7. At 6' 2" 212 lbs, 102 hits in 80 games is not impressive. He's 26 years old, has finished his 6th season in the league and is making good money. He should at this point be finding a little more consistency in his game. i was not fooled by is hot streak two seasons ago and what i saw last season justified my skepticism. If Stafford doesn't come out the gates strong next season than Regier is doing a disservice to the franchise by not moving him during the season.
  8. Because it goes against the spirit of the program. It;s like finding out your neighbor with the brand new Lexus and the brand new 70" HD 3D TV is collecting a welfare check. There is just something fundamentally wrong with it.
  9. Looking at your lines reminds me of the serious question marks the Sabres have in the forward ranks. Foligno - Can he come close to producing at the pace he did for the short time he was here. Hodgson - Had a five game stretch where he put up some points, was invisible the remaining games. Including just having 1 point and was a -5 over the final 5 games. Leino - Shows absolutely nothing last season, the only reason he is on the roster this season is his contract. Stafford - Should be called 'Mr. Contract Year", Some say Stafford was a horrible disappointment last season, IMO, it was no surprise, that is the Drew Stafford we all know, If he gave anymore, that would be the surprise. Roy - Is he healthy? Does he want to play for Ruff? Will he be looking to put up big numbers to get out of Buffalo? Roy maybe the biggest story of the season, if he sticks around. Vanek - Healthy? Is he capable of putting together a full season? Looking at the roster, IMO, only Pominville can be relied on for consistency. The rest of the forward ranks are hit or miss.
  10. The point isn't about preventing Pegula from spending his money. The issue is should he be collecting a welfare check from the league while he is on a spending spree.
  11. Did they? I thought part of the reason for the ticket price increases was to qualify for revenue sharing?
  12. Can a team be considered "poorer" if it is able to shell out millions in front loaded contracts? I'm not talking about teams that need assistance to make the salary floor. I'm looking at a situation like with the Sabres. Only 15 teams qualify for revenue sharing, should the Sabres be one of those teams? Is allowing a team in the Sabres position to collect a revenue sharing check really in the spirit of revenue sharing? There are already guidelines with revenue sharing. Minimal spending requirements and attendance. I don't think having a reasonable maximum expenditures will throw off any competitive balance.
  13. If you are a high revenue team and you see another team that is collecting revenue sharing outspend you it's going to become a problem. I doubt ownership is concerned about what the NHLPA thinks. Sports unions are as popular with fans these days as labor unions are in Wisconsin.
  14. I am ashamed I did not mention Rio Bravo. Has there ever been any one cooler than Dean Martin.
  15. There has to be a fair median. Maybe allowing teams to go a certain percentage over total revenue before being disqualified from the revenue sharing plan. Or re-define small and large markets. The Sabres are, at this point, no-longer a small market team.
  16. If a team collects revenue sharing, their expenditures (including cash value of contracts) for that season should not be able to exceed their total revenue. If it does they forfeit their right to the revenue sharing. IMO, the Sabres being able to spend well beyond their revenue and still collect revenue sharing goes against the spirit of revenue sharing.
  17. I know this is a bit off-topic, from what i understand the Sabres are still collecting revenue sharing. I don't see how the NHL would allow a team that is heavily front loading contracts to still collect revenue sharing. That doesn't make sense to me. That is true. Those teams seem to be getting more bang for their bucks as they say.
  18. It's impossible to tell at this point, I will guess some of the roster spots that teams need to be filled will be done from within or with cheaper veteran players, the Fedotenko - Sykora type players. A team like the Rangers with roster spots to fill will still be the prime destination for the top tier free-agents. A wildcard in all this will be the New Jersey Devils and their ownership situation. They have plenty of Cap Space, question is, will they be allowed to use it.
  19. If I may, I'll re-set the thread. According to Cap Geek the Sabres are going into this off-season with $11,7 mill of cap-space. Let's put that in perspective. There are only four teams going into the off-season with less cap-space and 17 teams that are going into the off-season with at least $10 mil more than the Sabres. Even if the Sabres can move Roy and bring that total to $15.7, there is still 22 teams that will have more space available. Of course those numbers will fluctuate with teams singing their own RFA's and UFA's, That still doesn't leave the Sabres in a good position cap wise. As much as I would like the Sabres to bring in some big time additions, I just don't think it's realistic unless the Sabres move at least one of their four top salaries or a combination of a couple of mid-level ($4 mil) salaries.
  20. I could take up an entire server with the old movies I love to watch. Pretty much any black and white movie Henry Fonda made: The Grapes of Wraith. The Oxbow Incident. (at the premiere Orson Wells told director William Wellman that this was the most important movie ever made and most people will never truly understand it's meaning ) 12 Angry Men. My Darling Clementine Young Mr. Lincoln. Anything by Alfred Hitchcock and Frank Capra especially: It's a Wonderful Life Arsenic and Old lace Rear Window To Catch a Thief Comedies: You can't take it with you. Bringing up Baby The Philadelphia Story Abbot and Costello Meet ........... Sorry about the long list.
  21. What is that old saying, "I think thou thus protest too much."
  22. The "Big Four" singing Diamond Head's 'Am I Evil'. Would have loved to see it live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw9GQr2gBWA&feature=related
  23. I don't often buy the sauces/marinades with TV Chefs on the bottle. I have to say that Guy Fieri's Carolina #6 BBQ sauce/marinade is really good. It added a really nice flavor to some chicken I grilled last night. It didn't overpower or cake onto the chicken like some sauces do.
  24. How is Andreychuk looking these days? The Sabres could use someone to jam the front of the net on the power-play.
  25. I think all Bills fans hope Fitzpatrick finds the consistency in his game that will be needed if the Bills are going to make a run for a playoff spot. That said, Fitzpatrick is not Manning, Brady or Brees. If Vince Young comes and shows he deserves the #1 job he should be given the #1 job. All things equal, you go with the more athletic QB with the stronger arm.
