Mark Pysyk, how is the kid looking down in Rochester? Is he a candidate for the big club if needed during the season?
-
On NHL Network they mentioned Gomez sitting at home for the entire season. Can a team sign him?

For about 3/4 of last season Pominville and Vanek carried the day as far as offensive production. Matching that rate of production will be essential for any team success. Others will need to step up to bring the % of offense production by Pominville & Vanek down without taking away from their rate of production. The balance of the lineup is contingent on players performing in their roles. Vanek and Pominville have to continue to produce like top line wingers. Stafford needs to find consistency and Hodgson and Ennis need to stay healthy and be the top 2 centers for this thing to work this season. This roster has zero room for error. Any long term injury to the top of the roster will be devastating. They simply do not have the depth to compensate.

Those were two highly entertaining games played yesterday. It will be interesting to see what today brings.

In a 48 game season I don't think age will be a factor. The Devils should be a top four playoff team.
-
Instances like that have happened far too many times under the Ruff/Regier regime.
-
If Hecht is healthy than sign him up. Every team is going to need as many healthy NHL level bodies as they can find.

You can't force the issue when it comes to QBs. If a guy is there he is there. How many QBs have been drafted early because conventional wisdom dictated that a team had to draft a QB in the early rounds. That's how the Raiders end up with a QB like Russell. There will be some big bodies available to the bills at #8 and #40, that is the way to go. If that QB from Syracuse is there in the 3rd round, take a flyer on him. The Bills need to hit home runs with the first two picks to start this new era off right.

The past off-season was about instilling some character into the roster, not talent. The discussion before the lockout was in regards to this team taking a step back in order to move forward. Gaustad and Roy may have been the beginning of the purge, I will expect some more roster purges as the season progresses.

Holy crap! Jay Leno is still on TV?

This makes me feel much better then the previous hirings. I know the WGR morning crew have their panties in a bunch about drafting a QB this year. IMO, that would be a huge mistake. Build the defense into a takeover machine and Fitzpatrick's arm strength, or lack of, is meaningless if he is given a short field on a consistent basis.

Can Justin Verlander take my turn? Seriously? I wish the Sabres would commission Todd McFarlane and Spawn Toys to make a collection of figures available to only Sabres season ticket holder. Right now there have only been three Sabres in their NHL collection, Hasek, Perreault and Miller. I would love to see a French Connection set or select players from the current addition of the Sabres. One per Season ticket holder to keep the value high.

How can a coach be on the "hot seat" with this roster? They are a non-playoff team that traded their 3rd leading scorer for a "character" guy and signed nothing but cement heads in the off-season. The "strength" of this team is the defense which may have numbers but not a lot of talent. Regier is coming off a horrible year and Myers has been on a downward trend which leaves Errhoff and a group of jags. I'm not a Ruff apologists by any means, I just doubt there is much he will be able to do with the roster. That being said, coming off a lockout, 1 week of training camp and a condensed 48 game Conference schedule means all conventional wisdom goes out the window. It is just as likely that we will be watching a Sabres vs. Bluejackets Finals as we will be watching Red Wings vs. Penguin Finals.

The defensive coordinator hire needs to be a grand slam, so far the head coach and offensive coordinator hires have been less than exciting.

We've already saw what he can do for 71 games last season, there is little reason to believe an additional 48 games would look any different. He's making $6 mil this season and $15 mil over the next four, that is an all-time bad contract the Sabres need to shed.

Alabama has as close to a NFL offensive line as you could find in college football, Te'o looked very small and weak against the Alabama front. I wouldn't be shocked if he fell out of the 1st round. ND was completely out matched in every aspect of the game.

I spent yesterday listening and reading a lot of thoughts and opinions on Doug Marrone. I still wish the Bills would have gone in a different direction.

What's the word on Myers? Is he healthy?
-
Crap! He's still the GM isn't he?
-
Great! All they need to do is get West Virginia into the AFC East.

Should Regehr be a concern? He is coming of a horrible season. It's the last year of his deal, moving Regehr before a younger D-man may be the better option here.
-
I wonder if he would leave Germany for a 1 year deal.
-
Is he healthy? If they can get him for the just the 48-50 game season, sure. I would hate to see him signed beyond this season.
-
I would prefer the Gold rules.

The criteria should be much more than being a better coach then Greg Robinson. Robinson took over for Paul Pasqualoni and went 10-37 in his four years. Marrone took over an irrelevant football program in Syracuse and he is leaving Syracuse as an irrelevant football program. If this is the best the Bills could do then they should have kept Chan Gailey.
