Lindy wasn't the only problem.
-
Didn't say he was. It's time to look towards the future and take inventory of what this team actually has. This team is pretty much in a 30 game preseason for the 2013-14 season.
-
Screw resting Miller, this team is going nowhere with Miller, give Enroth a chance to see what he can do with some regular work.
-
Would like to see Enroth start the 3rd period.
-
Miller looked like he gave up on that 2nd goal.

This is where your logic is flawed, IMO. You are hanging on to this notion that the Sabres are a piece or two away from contending. The Sabres have three pieces that actual contending teams would love to have. The Sabres need to take advantage of that before they lose bargaining power when the Big Three enter their final years of their contracts. This team needs to start over. Holding on to M-V-P will only delay that, in the long run it will hurt this franchise.
-
That should be a t-shirt.

The idea of moving out the Big Three and flooding this franchise with youth is very exciting. We have Vanek, Pomnville and Miller on the roster now and this team is dead in the water. These are three guys with a lot of talent that make a ton of money, this team shouldn't be missing the playoffs regularly and the most certainly shouldn't be where they are now. In the end, I just don't see the point of hanging on to the Big Three. IMO, hanging on to them is hanging on to the past. it's time to let go.

At least you are admitting it, which is step one. I wouldn't call your attempt interesting though, that seems a bit self serving. For those of us who have actually taken the time to watch the Canucks and Kassian play we have seen a young kid going through his growing pains. I don't believe anyone is saying otherwise. When he is playing well, hitting/fighting and scoring as he did earlier in the season, you seen qualities that the Sabres are sorely missing. As Kassian gets older and more consistent, the regret over this trade will increase in Sabre Nation. Come on, everyone knows Hodgon's dad does all his fighting for him. :w00t:

I could really use a player to fill Matt Read's spot. Out 4-6 weeks, it would be helpful if Yahoo would place him on IR.
-
It's not like the local sports teams give him much to work with. It's much like this board. Anyone can start a a puff-thread, the best threads are those with a bit of an edge that creates a good conversation. This roster quit on Lindy Ruff. I would love to see the local media hold the players accountable for it.

If I owned a business here in Buffalo I would start advertising on the Canucks broadcasts, their ratings must be through the roof here in WNY. :w00t:

The problem is that Pominville and Vanek will likely be well past 32-33 by the time this team is seriously ready to contend. Between now and then there will have to be new contracts negotiated. Is it really the wise move to invest major dollars on a couple of 30 somethings on a team going nowhere? They both have one more year on their contracts, their value may never be as high as it is right now. It must be really tough for Jerry Sullivan. Imagine if Jeff Simon had to review the same movie 82 times a year for six years.

Is the point that the Sabres should stick with players that have gotten this franchise nowhere because Scotty Bowman turned over the roster 20+ years ago and it didn't lead to a Cup?
-
And one hell of a fight.
-
The only reason to not trade Vanek along with Miller and Pominville is to hold on to the misguided idea that this team is not as bad off as it appears. The reality is that they are as bad as they appear and that's with Vaenek, Miller and Pominville. This franchise has to let go the idea that they are simply a player or two away. it's time for a complete overhaul. Unload the top 3 and load up on picks and prospects to move forward.

4 players on IR and two DTD.

GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Buffalo at Toronto (2/21/2013, 7:00pm)

It will be interesting to see how the players react. -
You don't need to be a hockey guru or insider to see this teams problems go well beyond effort and X's & O's. Lindy Ruff was just one piece of a failing franchise. The idea that his removal will simply solve all the teams ills is wishful thinking at best.

I remember the Sabres before Lindy Ruff was even a player for the Sabres. I remember leaving the house at 5 AM to go down to the arena for the yearly open practice just to get a glimpse of the French Connection, King Kong Korab and Danny Gare.

One of the NHL Network talking heads mentioned that possibly Regier will not be allowed to hire a full time head coach until this season plays out. I hope that is true.
-
Until toughness becomes a core value of this franchise it will always remain a problem. I wish I had the exact quote, Regier sad he brought in John Scott so players on this roster wouldn't be skating scared. Adding John Scott doesn't solve the problem, getting rid of any player that skates scared is the solution. it has been a major flaw of Regier's, he continually departmentalizes those physical values. In his mind having one player that fights and a couple that hit solves the toughness issue. It is a clear example of how he does not understand those qualities and the value they bring to a team.

There is nothing "simple" when it comes to this teams problems. One big card fell today, there will be many more cards falling before this team gets turned around.
