EDIT Bogosian Requests Trade, Now EROD wants One As Well
Kruppstahl replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Bogosian's trade value is close to zero. No one is going to want to take on his contract! Even if we offered BOGO for nothing, just to move the K, it may be hard to find a partner. -

1 year left on K but still the big cap hit. It will probably be very hard to move him. -

Didn't the fans demand that the building be painted as it is back in the Ted Black days?! I agree with you that it looks better Aud style. In that photo, look how "flat" the incline of the seats is. As you go up, you go way back from the ice. -
There's some good shots of the building and some of the SOUNDS of the building in this video. I would KILL for them to go back to a Milt Ellis style of public address announcing. Calm, slow, professional. Get rid of this hyped up cheerleader crap they do now. The entire presentation nowadays seems directed toward the least interested fan in the building. That ain't right! I don't think I ever saw a fight at a Sabres game in the Aud (or new building either). I contrast that with Bills games, where I have never been to a game in which I did NOT see a fight.
-
Absolutely not! It was the first thing a bunch of my friends noticed and bitched about when they opened the new building. I had great seats for the first ever game played in the new building..it was a pre-season game against Toronto. The gradual incline of the seats is terrible, and it results in people who are further up being much further OUT from the ice. And in the Aud there was no jumbo tron! If you missed a goal live, you never saw it again. People actually paid attention to the games and were there to watch hockey.
-
For those who never were in the building. Look at those rows of off-white cylinders hanging from the ceiling in this photo. I assume those were there to help control the acoustics in the building. I will always remember the building going insane at some big moment in a game and the crowd noise was so great, all of those cylinders would be flying back and forth, swinging around on the ropes (or whatever) that attached them to the ceiling. They were being blown around by nothing more than sound energy. That building used to get so f-ing loud!

These are some great memories/references. My God! NHL hockey used to be so much more exciting, and utterly filled with dramatic conflict and tension! It's so damned boring now most nights. How about the times (I'm pretty sure I recall it happening more than once) when the Aud lost power in the middle of a game and the lights suddenly went out! Or fog developing on the ice in a playoff game when it started to get warmer out. The game would be stopped, and all players on both benches would skate in circles on the ice to help dissipate the fog.

Too many to mention! What a great old building and awesome place to watch a hockey game. A few memories: Sitting in the oranges next to my dad at my first ever Sabres game probably 6 years old or something like that. My dad used to love to tell the story about how I did not let go of his arm the entire game, out of a sense of security. Those seats were f-ing STEEP up there and I was basically scared of falling out of my seat the entire game! Sitting in the front row next to the glass for a random Oilers game @ 1980 and watching some young kid named Gretzky. My first rock concert in early '80s. Billy Squier opening for Foreigner! My mom actually took me, my sister, and her best friend to the concert! There was an intermission and the lights came on; the entire Aud was filled with a gigantic cloud of smoke hovering up near the ceiling. It was a combination of pot and cigarettes. No one thought anything of it.

Goaltending should be the first fix, but won’t be.
Kruppstahl replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Analytically speaking, by far the most impactful thing Botterill could do this season would be to immediately improve goaltending by bringing in a better goalie and starting him most nights. I'm not saying he is going to do that, that he is even thinking in these terms, or that the right guy is out there who could be had, however. -
My understanding is season ticket numbers are on the decline relative to last year, and are now at a *relatively* low level. As far as actual in-game attendance is concerned, the chunks of empty seats everywhere in the building are noticeable and alarming. I have heard folks mention a ring of empty seats around the entire building up high, and there are always big gaps down low near the glass that can easily be seen on TV. When Pegula first bought the team, he had the entire community including many non-Sabres fans on his side. The building was packed and people were expecting to see immediate success based on pure emotion and adrenaline. Since then, the systemic mismanagement of the franchise has seen fan enthusiasm, particularly among non-traditional Sabre fans, dwindle to a trickle. I get the impression word has finally worked its way around the community that it is not worth the bother/cost to go to a Sabres game as the show sucks on most nights. There is a core fanbase, of course, of Canadians and loyal Sabres fans that are impervious to all this. They'll show up no matter what happens. Whatever that number is is pretty much what we see in the building on most nights these days.

Oh how I loved Defender back in the day. Had the Atari 2600 version of the game, but that always sucked.

What is your immediate action plan assuming NO trade?
Kruppstahl replied to nfreeman's topic in The Aud Club
NO TRADES? Immediate action plan? Prayer. -
As the puck was getting ready to be dropped to start OT, I thought "Miller is going to get the game winner tonight." OK, not really. Good 2 points on the road. Can we now win 2 games in a row?!?!?
-
Streaming the game on the laptop and I have the Miss Universe pageant on TV in the background. Miss Phillipines is up now and looking lovely.

Mittelstadt and McCabe healthy scratches. Good.

He was terrible. He left 2 and arguably 3 TDs on the field today simply because he struggles with accuracy. He also threw up a lame duck pass while scrambling that should have been intercepted. He has done that before and was supposed to have "learned" from it. He didn't. 43% completion today.

It doesn't help that the intangibles MODO is talking about and which are completely missing from our lineup have clearly not been taken into account by Botterill in evaluating player talent. On the Instigators a couple of days ago, the guys were discussing the Dahlin situation and our total lack of a response to it. Craig Rivet said "The reason there was no response to it is that we don't have the right guys on the team to respond" or words to that effect. He's right. Our team is spineless. How to fix it? Fire Botterill immediately. Replace him with a different GM who values spine and the intangibles our team lacks, and then start re-working the roster around that. I think Botterill is so gun shy from being raped in the ROR deal he is afraid to pull the trigger. He should be replaced on that basis alone.

GDT: Sabres at Vancouver 12/07/19 4 pm EST
Kruppstahl replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Darcy Wakaluk comes to mind. As I have written many times here for more than a year now, neither of our goalies are the answer going forward. It's another of Botterill's many failings that we still have the current goaltending. -

Oh joy. -
We only tanked 2 years IMO, and got Reinhart and Eichel in exchange, who are arguably the 2 best players on the team. We than fell into the Dahlin pick, not as a result of tanking deliberately, but he is likely to be the next big player on the team as well. I'm not sure what you mean when you say the tanking failed. It actually did exactly what we hoped for. It could have gone slightly better if we had been luckier and gotten McDavid, but that wasn't our fault.
