  1. There are some similarities between Groenberg and Kreuger actually. Coaching experience wise. Krueger has the administration experience but his coaching experience isn't novice by any means. Plus he's not a "retread" as so many posters seem to not want.
  2. If Botterill flames out he could well be.
  3. While many here will not be happy he does fill the bill in many ways. He's not another young guy with a young team and really has a lot of experience with young players. The team needs that structure and his organization experience may be as valuable as his coaching. While not a lot of NHL coaching experience his other experience with coaching young players could be important. After Housley, which at the time I liked, I am in favor of not going new and young again for this team. I didn't want Martin but I'm okay with Tippett or this guy. Don't think Keefe was ever in the picture. Now the real thing is can Botterill put a decent team together because that's more important than who the coach is in my opinion.
  4. Man, you seem the one who's posts speak for themselves. No one it seems to me has said anything insulting or offensive. You're speaking like someone who isn't particularly objective here.
  5. Actually Jeremy had an idea that isn't outrageous. If you can't get a guy you really want why not give Chris Taylor the job on an interim basis with raise and take more time to see who may later become available. If Taylor does well great give him the job. This allows you to get someone you want as opposed to settling for say a Martin just because he's available.
  6. Everything else is a waste? So, you're a fan of a cup only. If you work for someone if you're not the CEO your career is a waste? I do understand your frustration but if it's just the cup then why watch the season when you could just wait until the last game of playoffs and tune to see who wins the cup. I've been a fan since this teams inception and I'm frustrated more by our lack of good competitive hockey. Give me a solid, entertaining team that can seriously challenge for the cup I'll be happy with that.
  7. When do we put the ROR saga to bed. Loved him as a player but it's over!
  8. Keep in mind candidates "allegedly"(key word there) sign elsewhere. McClellan. Who else?
  9. Didn't think about Boughner. Yeah, I could go with that. Really think he did okay in Florida. Keefe or Tippet I'm thinking are possible but have a feeling they may be long shots.
  10. Get ready for Martin like it or not? Who else is there with NHL experience? If Tippett isn't in our future then Martin is about the only name that's been mentioned with NHL experience. I know that's not popular but who else?
  11. Players need talent and motivation. In a long season the coach can make a difference in motivation and that involves how the coach utilizes the talent and keeps all those egos pulling together rather than apart. I personally think that's why Marv Levey was successful. Lots of talent with huge egos and he kept them together to work toward the goal of winning come Sundays. He wasn't a great coach but hired good men around him and had the respect of his players.
  12. Unfortunately what you're saying indeed could be the case. I do think the instability could be factor and may be why we're still without a hire.
  13. Big difference with football draft and hockey. Football you're possibly drafting three guys who come in and play day one. Having said that I think there seems to be more trust in Beane than Botterill at this point.
  14. I read this somewhere earlier this week.
  15. I'm getting the feeling after listening to Dreger on the Instigators and Holland to Oilers and Tippett possibly in the mix there that he's a long shot for here. Gronborg has been floating around all along so wouldn't be shocking but not having coached in North America would JBOT take a chance with him? Having said that wouldn't a guy like Keefe have similar risk level? Then there's always Martin still out there. He seems not to be too popular with posters on here. I think we'll find out after JBOT gets back to the states.
  16. Could be. The question is why. Unless there is someone still involved in playoffs seems like it's taking a long time. If it's going to be someone not with a playoff team you would think it wouldn't take that long. That's why I suspect it's an assistant or someone coaching (Keefe, the Swede or an assistant on a playoff team) that they want to speak with.
  17. Dreger was on Instigators today. He seems to think Tippett is a outside chance to be Sabres coach. Interesting comment seeing there's been so much talk that he's a candidate. Dreger has credibility so we'll see. He also thinks it will be awhile before coach is hired.
  18. JBOTs job is on the line is significant. No time to take risks and Tippett is the lower risk at this point. Frankly,to me, I'm okay with Keefe, the Swede or Tippett but if I'm in Botterill's position I'd go with Tippett.
  19. It's become typical in our society to judge success or failure in superficial terms . Because you haven't won a cup etc. we now think people are "failures"? No depth to most of our labeling people is sad really. Keefe has "won at every level" except one. The level of the NHL. Not at all against hiring him but I think he does lack the NHL experience which has some meaning.
  20. I do find it interesting that we have not hired or got any real word of interviews other than the one who LA hired. Not that I think there's any rush. Could this indicate possibly candidates still in playoffs? If so would seem it would be assistant coaches as I doubt any head coaches still in playoffs are in any jeopardy. If JBOT has conducted multiple interviews he's certainly managed to hide it well.
  21. I'm thinking SabreSpace implodes whoever is named coach.
  22. Even though the statement was correct.
  23. Thank you. I really appreciate your take on all you said here.
  24. I hope you're not implying fans should hire a coach. Have you suffered through an hour of sports show call in. The concern I have about Martin is his age and time since being head coach. I could care less about personality and how great he is with media etc.
