You're right, Thorny, and I hate to say that. I should not have said objective. Instead I believe or it's my opinion more people have a higher regard for Risto as a defenseman than you seem to. Could I be wrong? I most certainly could be.
I put absolutely no stock in preseason in any sport. My impressions are that the talent on this team has improved incrementally over the past few years. Last season I still think they under performed. Probably not a playoff team but I'm not as pessimistic as a lot of guys here.
Seems we're assuming we have ignored better available players to play the worst players in the NHL. Now what GM would do that? Is Botterill literally brain dead? Please , Flagg, a rhetorical question only.
How do we know he has "waited"? Would waiving those players make us better? Replacements? We seem as fans to assume we know more than management and coaches. I highly doubt we really do.
Fair enough but what could he have done that he hasn't. I guess the real question is how long reasonably speaking does it take to take a last place team to a playoff competitor? Maybe our long standing frustration has made us unrealistic in our expectations. Hey, I'm not getting any younger so I want it turned around as quickly as anyone but what's realistic timing for a new management team to get it turned?
I think most of us here are quite upset by the ROR trade. I know I was and was elated when we got him. Serious question. If we could blot that out of our minds what is your view of Botterill? If I don't take that bad trade into consideration I honestly don't think he's doing that bad. Not great but acceptable. He's building our depth and I have no reason to feel he's missed making any moves he could have improved our team with.
