Well if it’s over because we lost one guy it should be a soft landing b/c no one should have expected much. We are no more banged up than other teams. Yes, I know we have less depth but truthfully we’ve been WELL above average all year re: the injury front losing Tuch and Samuelsson does hurt. But we watched them play their best game of the season without Samuelsson. They’ve run up scores without Tuch. There are other variables at work, here don’t minimize the fact the islanders were ALSO fighting for their playoff lives. At home. We lost by..1 goal? on a back to back? jumping to “we can’t win I guess without em!” is a really weird flex.

Awful game / result, whatever. Islanders are an annoying team to play against, good at what they do not out of it at all, playoff hunt wise. But biggest hurdle to clear isn’t the schedule, it’s not even the point gap: it’s the change in officiating playoff *chase* season apparently now has part and parcel

True, but I’d wager to say the calls generally even out in the macro..like I said the problem is, even with even officiating the scenario where BOTH teams get away with more always hampers the higher skill team and we’ve been a high skill, track meet, run up the score team all year

The fact these last 2 games have had a low amount of penalties called, both ways, is bad news for the Sabres. If the refs are doing the swallow the whistle thing early..ya it’s bad news for us and our top of the league pp unit Exactly

Re: your small sample size selection there @Taro T I will say I don’t find the results of those games very compelling when our best game of the year was played without Samuelsson not only that, but prob our best game *defensively*. The problem with the “rally around it!” line of thinking is that it works both ways: could easily argue, without Samuelsson’s noted defensive presence in the lineup, the team rallied around a putting out a better defensive effort as a group. Saw it in Winnipeg. In the end, it’s easier to make up what Samuelsson provides than Dahlin. Dahlin is significantly better at offence than Samuelsson is at D. Dahlin is more advanced in his field, relative to other players with that strength league wide. Dahlin is also a better defender which makes the whole argument kinda wonky but, I digress

I’m not giving the “we’d be better off with Dahlin out for a game” thing credence, sorry. Unless, Game 7, cup final, you say right now you, Taro, would remove Dahlin first, given the choice. If gun to head you’d truly remove Dahlin before Samuelsson, for game 7, cup final, I’ll just concede the argument right now because to claim something that extreme, given your general aversion to hyperbole and favouring of reasoned statements, that you’ve foreseen something I haven’t and cannot grasp not even a joke.
