  1. There was factually less parity. It was factually easier to be a dominant team based on the construction and make up of the league during the Habs hey day is it just a COINCIDENCE those dynasties existed and are now a thing of distant legend? We will never see another Habs or Yankees run again, ever. Because it’s impossible: that’s demonstrably an unequal comparison playing field. The Habs just *happened* through luck and genius to be able to put together a run no team will ever come close to again? Just unheard of managerial aptitude? And then the oilers and islanders put together runs of 4 in a row and 4 in 5 years in the next decade just coincidentally? The era favoured and facilitated dominance, there was less parity
  2. You need to look at and make an effort to understand the overall, macro situation. Why do you think we used to see multiple cups in a row dynasties, and now teams can’t even win 2 in a row? It is *inarguable* statistically that it was easier to be a dominant team then, then it is now. The numbers indisputably bear that out - the playing field has levelled. Montreal isn’t lapping the field anymore like the New York Yankees used to because they are investing more than everyone else. It is harder to string consistency and greatness together
  3. You are arguing parity hasn’t increased over time? You would be incorrect factually There is assuredly more competition today than in the 6 team league.
  4. I don’t think the Islanders are throwing in the towel without Barzal. Panthers without Barkov etc etc. This is a big blow depending on how long it lasts but we are still playing with found money re:injuries this year - we’ve been well-off relatively on that front If Tage can carry his line w/o Tuch, he’ll go a long way towards solidifying his case for a Hart nomination Hope it’s just a couple games
  5. Son of a b*tch. Should be ok as long as it’s not LT. Too bad KO isn’t skating like last year or I’d throw him on the top line for now
  6. The stat quality control in-arenas is terrible - for such a big league it’s pretty embarrassing /amateur hour. We so often hear about how teams rely on their own stats - I don’t think the stats are always accurate in fact I think they are often not. Studies have shown there’s home bias Dahlin had an assist yesterday that they just randomly decided not to credit. He had one the game before too. Maybe no one cares but on a site where we break down the minutia between players, in a league where “points pay” and we are looking for Dahlin to win a Norris..it’s just kinda dumb. Extra shots for the home team are par for the course whatever
  7. The other half repeated it with him in refrain, though
  8. You guys are all correct the bruins aren’t good Shouldn’t have posted it
  9. Competition was also not close to what it is today not to mention the 43-44 habs playing in a 6 team league.
  10. Yes I heard they are on pace for the most points ever. I suppose that’s a better less ambiguous term than “greatest”
  11. Stepping over camera cord
  12. What were the Sabres when the prediction was made? Slightly below .500? .500? Id bet prob about 10% of the teams in the position the Sabres were at that time would be sitting in 7th by points % at THIS stage. If you look at the other teams in that spot when the prediction was made, I think they are still there the model doesn’t suck, the Sabres are just breaking trend. Most teams DONT break the trend set in previous seasons. Every other year the athletic *also* gave us low odds - doesn’t really make sense to cherry pick this one I said this, in response to a topic you created about the athletic predictions, actually: It was always going to look like this
  13. That 70 save performance hasek had was actually only 47 saves. These legends just grow over time as we are quickly seeing with Craig
  14. “I need you to find me a few more shots”
  15. Marek today on his show was right to point out Colorado might be feeling pretty darn good right now: getting healthier, now putting the wins together, weak conference, all while the east loads up in an arms race (removing players from the west)
  16. Bruins also on pace for the greatest regular season of all time
  17. The fact we have to look back a damn decade is his entire point tho
  18. Not holding out hope since they never got around to crediting him for the one they stole last game either
  19. For me the timing makes sense because it’s a reminder for those that need it of what nhl goalies believe it or not ARE allowed to do: provide positive value ie see linked tweet above or the memes and tweets or whatever. It’s up there
  20. Because our one capable guy played his one allowable a month game
  21. Come to think of it they robbed him of one on his flip pass to Thompson for his 3rd goal yesterday. That’s 2 points in 2 days
  22. I get the guy poked the puck off Skinner’s stick but FLA never gained possession. Very dumb
