GDT: Sabres Prospect Camp: 3v3 Tournament, Sabres.com, July 6, 2023
Thorner replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Agree, it’s why the Skinner comps for me end rather shallowly after some similar skating elements They hound the puck similarly when Skinner is on his game but they are completely different offensive players -
Bader’s prospect rank, Sabres in at 5th Rankings in each category listed in chart above
-
Skinner - Thompson - Tuch Mittelstadt - Cozens - Greenway Rousek - Krebs - Peterka Girgensons - Jost - Okposo Samuelsson - Dahlin Power - Clifton Stillman - Jokiharju Hellebuyck Levi (VO, Johnson, Boosh) Who wouldn’t want to see that? Gimme
-
Kinda see a Brayden Point type guy from the wing instead of C, a little more playmaking and a little less goal scoring
-
He’s been playing both sides the whole way

A Top 4 Defenseman is Adams Top Priority per Lebrun

If accompanied by a nice looking goalie add (increasingly less likely), I think the signings on D look great. Without that, the signings to me look pretty good. -
I know we always say “it’s a long summer” but traditionally, after this week GMs take off for about a month for the summer, and action dries up around the league. By the time they are back in the office in August, word is usually that they want to see how things shake out in camp in September before additional tweaks, if any. There’s a reason we always talk about the busy period being around the draft and FA. If we ARE going to see any more significant additions (ie goalie, a further skater) expect we’d see KA complete them before the end of this week. Always a chance something shakes out a bit later, but I’d be betting on what we see is what we get if we get past Friday without major action

I could see it. That in-depth article that did a deep dive on handedness I posted a link to the other day mentioned Dahlin’s metrics actually looked a bit better on the left (great both sides) I don’t expect it necessarily but if Clifton outperforms Samuelsson I could see an increased likelihood

I like that top 6 best too. Kinda why I was wondering if we’d add a F to replace Quinn: the 3rd line if Greenway is up there looks something like Olofsson - Krebs - Peterka and defensively that make me cringe I’m not sure Rousek - Krebs - Peterka looks much more stable on that front. Or, is Rousek pretty good defensively?

Under A) it’s certainly a possibility within the realm of believability 1) we scored lots 2) the window always opens a little sooner than you think, and closes a little quicker than you think. Jets were “ahead of schedule” in 2018..that was their best year. Tage could win MVP *next year* Make a compelling argument for why it’s unreasonable to think there’s a decent chance of that happening. That that’s not worth aiming for. That Tage can’t win MVP with a completely dialled in roster. One not needing to get back to cover for UPL what about Dahlin? Who wants to argue he shouldn’t have Norris expectations? Im listening How about in net? Who wants to argue that.. wait, hold up *Why* don’t we think Hellebuyck, who should threaten for the Vezina, guiding Levi, doesn’t have a very fun chance of sending us to great things next year, again? As he Nikolai Khabibulin‘s us to a deep run before handing the reigns to young Niemi for the Cup? I’d certainly like to find out, if at all reasonably possible.

Why? I haven’t been extreme on the issue at all. I’m not “selling the farm” and never advocated to. We have a totally stacked pool. Being open to dealing from it even for ooooonly one year of term for say, Hellebuyck, is something I’m open to (as you know), for an example. I mentioned in the past I am open to moving draft picks as well. We can afford to trade any one prospect to be brutally honest (I already have Levi on the roster), but I’d certainly deal Rosen. Who knows if that’s even in the ballpark of that they’d take, of course. 2024 protected first and Rosen? I do it. You won’t find any posts of mine where I talk about selling off a bunch of guys or saying I want to deal Savoie or Kulich. The equation simply makes sense now because we can *afford* to listen on anyone. I’ve gone on record a multitude of times saying I don’t believe “untouchable” is a thing, while others use it liberally, unless you have McDavid. For others, Josh Bloom was “untouchable” and my posts saying he was expendable were considered tantamount to hot takes lol. It all depends what the deal is
-
Why did this possibly get a red X lol
-
Eichel passing him the puck was..a big part of it
-
I’d go as high as Rosen too, maybe Östlund

Sabres.

Should be pointed out the advanced stats suggest Anderson was our best goaltender last year. So, people saying Levi is strictly plug and play improvement aren’t exactly accurate. If he improves his performance a bit from what we saw to end the year (I assume he will) he can match the 26 game output that Craig Anderson gave us. If we can get him to 40, that should be 14 more games of at least Anderson like output over last season. There’s a chance Levi is even better, but I’m not sure adding 14 more Anderson games last year would have been enough. I’m bullish on Levi, a guy who has never played more than 41 games in a season, once, to play maybe around 41 NHL games this season, and a good level, perhaps surpassing Anderson. That’s a high expectation in and of itself. He could really, really use a helpful vet backup. More so, I think it’s likely the team and it’s record benefits from it. Again, maybe that’s UPL. It’s just a little bit more expectation saddled onto a player who hasn’t yet proven what you are betting on happening. Degree of difficulty is manually increased the more best case scenarios you are counting on congruently

Is your opinion that if a fan, without KAs vast array of contacts, can’t provide the perfect name that none were available? Do you yourself believe there are simply no good options available? If that’s the case, does it not stand to follow that, if the goaltending output is again sub par, we can’t blame Adams because there weren’t reasonable options available anyways?
