The Buffalo Sabres try for their first 4 game winning streak of the year against the Blackhawks of Chicago in Buffalo on national tv NBCSN. The Sabres come in also as the 2nd hottest team in the Atlantic Division trailing only the Florida Panthers in the last 10 games. They are also trailing the final wildcard spot and the 3 slot in the division by 2 points albeit with games in hand. Interesting info on Sabres. Risto and McCabe had the fewest minutes per 5v5 of any D pairings versus the St.Louie Blues Kane with his 20th goal of the season Since the return of Jack on November 29th he is leading the team by averaging .84 points per game. In that same time span Kane is 2nd on the team at .78 points per game Sabres original 6 D pairings Risto-McCabe-Bogo-Kulik-Franson-Gorges finally healthy and played one of their first games as a set yesterday Since Lehner's outburst the Sabres are 3-0, Eichel looking better than ever. Is it a coincidence that they are finally listening to DDB??? LET'S GO BUFFALO Chicago Tribune Preview: Storylines: The Hawks beat the Sabres in the teams' first meeting this year 4-3 in overtime on Jan. 5. The Hawks had 43 shots on goal in that game, tied for the most they had in any game this season entering Saturday. Trending: The Sabres enter Sunday having won four of their last five. Ryan O'Reilly has a four game point streak. … Hawks' Duncan Keith had seven points in his last five games entering Saturday. ESPN Preview: BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have a chance to head into their week off on a high note -- one that seemed close to impossible only a few weeks ago. Buffalo rides a three-game winning streak into Sunday afternoon's game against the Chicago Blackhawks and a victory could move them into the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. "We're looking at stringing three together, being four of five here," Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said. "And when you're playing games that close together it adds up pretty quickly when you can win three in a row, you can get four of five and add eight points to the column ... and we've got one more chance at it before the break here." The Sabres (26-23-10) are coming off a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Buffalo ended a six-game win streak for the Blues by jumping out to a 3-1 lead and holding off an aggressive attack in the third period. One key for the Sabres in recent games has been the play of goaltender Robin Lehner. Ever since calling out his teammates following a loss to Vancouver one week ago, Lehner has been exceptional and his teammates responded in kind. Lehner made 37 saves against St. Louis and made sure Buffalo remained on top despite being outshot 17-7 in the third period. "As I said before, it's the small, minor details that's been hurting us," Lehner said. "It's not been many times this year where I felt we could complain about our effort. ... Slowly but surely we're starting to put them together but still, we've got a big game here (Sunday)." Power forward Evander Kane is leading the way on offense for Buffalo with six goals in his past six games. Kane had a goal and an assist against St. Louis, reaching the 20-goal mark for the second season in a row. "(Chicago has) a lot of talent up front, they're a puck possession team, and we're going to have to have a lot of what we had tonight," Kane said. The Blackhawks (35-18-5) had a five-game win streak come to a close Saturday in a 3-1 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Chicago was playing for the first time in a week after defeating Edmonton 5-1 and Winnipeg 5-2. The Blackhawks fell Saturday despite putting 39 shots on net. "I didn't mind how we played," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "I still thought we had generated enough throughout the game. Didn't give up much. I think we'd probably be happy with that effort or that game for most nights and generally would come out with something better than a loss." Buffalo native Patrick Kane leads the Blackhawks in points with 58 (19 goals, 39 assists).

Sabres seek to win 3 in a row for the third time this season against the red hot St. Louis Blues. With the trade deadline nearing these are key games coming up which should be telling if GMTM sells, buys or stays put. Does the red hot Lehner play again this afternoon and tomorrow or does DDB play Nillson in one of them??? After Jack E was called out by Lehner he's put together 2 of his most responsible games back to back, Kane came back from sickness to take the goal scoring lead for the team and a win today could also put some fear into the heart of the darkest sabre avatar. A preview of the game from the St.Louis Dispatch BLUES AT SABRES Blues • The Blues beat the Sabres 4-1 at Scottrade Center on Nov. 15, breaking open a 1-1 game with goals early in the third period by Jaden Schwartz and Kyle Brodziak. … The Blues have killed 21 consecutive power plays. … The Blues are 7-0-1 with Magnus Paajarvi in the lineup this season. … Mike Yeo’s 7-1 record is the best eight-game mark for a coach in franchise history. … The Blues haven’t lost in Buffalo since the 2008-09 season. Sabres • Buffalo has won two in a row and this is the start of back-to-back games against the Blues and Blackhawks, which could mean the Blues see former teammate Anders Nilsson in goal. The Sabres are in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 60 points but are four points out of a wild-card spot in the tightly packed East. … The Sabres have the league’s best power play at 23.3 percent, and it’s 26.1 percent at home. Their penalty-killing, though, is 29th at 74.3 percent. … Kyle Okposo leads the team in scoring with 38 points (18 goals, 20 assists). Injuries • Blues — C Paul Stastny (lower body), doubtful; F Robby Fabbri (knee), out. Sabres — F Derek Grant (shoulder), F Zemgus Girgensons (middle body) and F Johan Larsson (wrist), out; D Cody Franson (foot) and F William Carrier (knee), day-to-day. Also the ESPN Preview BUFFALO, N.Y. -- With their offense clicking, the Buffalo Sabres have a daunting task this weekend as they look to continue their late-season playoff push. The Sabres have back-to-back home games with a matinee against the St. Louis Blues (1 p.m., Saturday) before a Sunday evening matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. Before Buffalo can get to the Blackhawks -- who are on a five-game winning streak -- they have to deal with the Blues, who are on a six-game winning streak of their own. St. Louis (31-22-5) has turned it around since Mike Yeo took over as head coach on Feb. 1, going 7-1 since Yeo's arrival. The Blues went on the road and won every game in a five-game road trip before a 4-3 win over Vancouver on Thursday at home. St. Louis' recent surge has the Blues sitting comfortable in third place in the Central Division, five points ahead of Nashville. "I think that the mentality that we've had day in and day out -- we come to the rink, we try to get better," Yeo said. "Whatever the result was the day before, if we win, we lose, we want to come back the next day and we want to start preparing. We want to start getting ready for the next one and when you do that, more often than not you're ready to go. "The biggest part of that challenge is that we don't start feeling too good about ourselves, about what we've done, and that we recognize all the little things -- whether it's the blocked shots, the sacrifice and the commitment to the game that we're playing. That's why we're having success." Vladimir Tarasenko leads the Blues in points with 55 (27 goals, 28 assists) and is tied for 10th in the league in scoring. Kevin Shattenkirk is second on the team with 42 points (11 goals, 31 assists). Goaltending has been an issue for the Blues throughout this season, with Jake Allen (.903 save percentage) and Carter Hutton (.907 save percentage) taking turns between the pipes. The Sabres (25-23-10) are riding a two-game win streak for the first time this month following a 3-2 win over Ottawa on Tuesday and a 2-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Evander Kane has five goals in his last five games and scored a pivotal goal with 4:14 remaining to keep the Sabres on top of the Avalanche. The Sabres, three points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, have played two more games than the final team, Toronto. "We need to go back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back," Kane said of the Sabres' current playoff chances. "That's where we're at right now in terms of this point in the season. You've got two tough teams coming to our building to cap it off before the break and we have to have both of those games." Robin Lehner has been tremendous in net for Sabres in recent games. Lehner has a save percentage of .926 and a goals-against average of 2.49 on the season.

I'll bite...... Avatar bet, I say they get a minimum 10 points Must use the Avatar until at least the end of the season -
It also could be true that he's a prima donna butt wipe who the veterans on the team are tired of his antics. Maybe Hamilton is right about him. If this is true about him do you really think he has any chance of getting the A must less the C with this team. Maybe he needs to grow up. Talent alone doesn't necessarily win, this isn't EA Sports where you can just throw everything in a bottle and shake it up and throw it out there. The guys have to mesh and feel like they're all in it together. That's why some teams overachieve and others stagnate. Another thing, would you and others feel the same if who he was referring to wasn't Jack but was Kane or Gorges or Foligno or Ennis. I highly doubt it. Sometimes you have to get off his oscar mayer and actually think. If you're on a job and the Manager tells you to do something and a 19-20 year old tells you to stick it, he's not doing that he's going to do what he wants to do. Do you really think he's still working there tomorrow???

Took the words out of my mouth. They are not calling anything that period -
Watch how often he wins those battles in the offensive zone and how many he even tries for in the Dzone. Watch how often the opposing team is in our end and Jack is still at the red line. And no I'm not talking about the Ottawa game where he actually played one of his better all around games. But in general there are times he seems disinterested in playing both sides of the ice.

Jack is an awesome offensive talent but I think dudacek is on to something here. I wonder if the 3rd wheel is so caught up in having to win the majority of board battles on that line, be the primary fore checker and back checker on that line that they don't have the energy to also finish. I wonder why it's not more apparent to others how everyone who doesn't do well with him suddenly becomes a scorer when their primary duty becomes just doing their job. The national guys allude to his occasional laziness, the instigators allude to it even Brad May brought it up after the first period yesterday. It's a young guy trying to find his way. I don't think Nylander is the answer either. He appears to also like the puck on his stick. My opinion is Jack needs a finisher like Ovechkin lite. And now I duck for cover.....

Pre-morning coffee I thought WOW, this guy must have a gigantic pair of gonads to actually inject humor into this thread Post-morning 40oz black coffee consumption Man what other site can a moderator get blasted for the posts of people who somehow mix Trump--bad Sabres defense---politics thread and horrendous Sabres game into one colossal conglomeration of thread manure. This place is a schizophrenia's heaven. No wonder this place is so awesome -
My sarcasm meter is low this morning so I can't tell if you 2 are joking or you pretend to actually watch the games. For the months of December and January, these are the pairing stats ROR 3 goals 14 assists............ Okposo 8 goals 8 assists...... TOTAL 33 points--11 goals Jack E. 11 goals 8 assists.......... Samson 5 goals 13 assists......... TOTAL 37 points--16 goals Kane 14 goals 7 assists.......... Gionta 8 goals 9 assists............ TOTAL 38 points--22 goals Going strictly on production, it looks to me especially for NUMBERS people, that Kane and Gionta are your #1 line and they don't have the added points from being on the #1 PP team. I'm sure if you just look at the 5v5 production these numbers are skewered in their favor even more. Why would you dump one of the most productive #3 lines in the league for basically nothing???
