This won't be a popular opinion but here goes anyway. Should we do a 1 game tank?? With Detroit and Ottawa playing the Philly Flyers and NJ Devils, we could go from 9 to 7 in the draft order. Plus if Vancouver can win plus VGK lose to St. Louis we could end up with 7 and 15 instead of 9 and 16. I'll be cheering for a victory but it certainly won't hurt my feelings too much if that is the end result by a loss. 1st period yesterday was pretty entertaining, the rest of the game not so much, which did allow me to watch more of the NFL draft than I ever intended. Plus the Islanders didn't appear to happy with the outcome late in that game either. Another note did anyone else notice that Fitzgerald wasn't seen on the ice after that 3rd goal by NY?? That's the 2nd time recently his bad play has gotten him pulled from the game with no return. In fact I don't think they were taking us lightly, I think they were completely surprised by the speed of the game we are now playing. There were quite a few if not cheap shots but close to it hits by Chara and other vets to our younger core that used to then get scared to play their game.

I'm not sure, it kind of shocked me when he said it because with him having a national voice, I thought he might say some good things on how the Sabres were playing lately. I don't catch many Islander games so I don't know if he's a host on their shows or what but the inference was they were playing a non-playoff team so the Islanders didn't seem to care.

I'm not sure if anyone listened/watched the Islander broadcast but Anson Carter said between the 2nd and 3rd period that the Islanders weren't skating and took the lowly Sabres lightly and that it was hard to get up for a team that doesn't hit and plays like a college team especially with the last 4 games of the season the NYI have against real playoff teams like Carolina, Washington and Tampa Bay. The reason I don't think Manson's can be had is he is currently playing around 18 minutes of TOI in Colorado, he was playing 20 plus minutes in Anaheim. With our top 4 guys all averaging over 20 minutes of TOI, I don't see him wanting to come here to get 15 minutes tops on the 3rd pairing. We need two bottom pairing guys, Ian Cole and Gudbranson, I believe can be had relatively cheap, will add size, PK and grit to the backend and both are under utilized at the moment also. An under the radar guy to checkout as a 4th line Center is Roy with VGK. Plays the 4th line now, adds size, speed and grit and is an RFA that'll need a raise after scoring around 40 points this year. I don't think VGK can afford him and should be available in a trade for the right price, plus he just turned 25. He can play with Girgs and Okposo for 1 year and then team up with Asplund afterward.

You can add Detroit and San Jose to that list of teams. Keep Buffalo at 8 and with Vancouver now tied with VGK in points the possibility exists we get 8 and 15 in the draft.

Tanev has 2 years left on his contract for 4.5M and a M-NTC. He's not waiving that to come here. Now Gubbranson is another story, UFA, cheaper, plays the PK well and is gritty. Hopefully losing Pysyk is a no-brainer. Just let him go. There'll be much better options out there than him.

I'm going to throw some of my reality into this conversation: Since Power joined the team and in the 3 of the 4 of them that Samuelsson played the highest TOI for the 3rd pairing D was 12:02. Yes they are basically getting 11-12 minutes a game Has anyone seen any drop off in Dahlin's play since he went to the right side?? He's not moving back, we don't need 2 RHD, we need a bottom pair that will play the role of penalty killers and won't get rolled over when on the ice for 5v5 Johnson, Portillo and Levi although they have shown glimpses of being NHL players, have proved nothing yet. Right now the #1 reason to keep these guys in the organization is to continue to build depth in the system. Rochester possibly not making the playoffs should prove the need for additional depth. With the top 4 defensemen currently playing at ages 19 thru 22, do we really need to spend a top 10 pick on a D-man?? Would we be better served using the last 2 picks of the top 40 we'll have on 1 or 2 and does it necessarily have to be a RHD, with Dahlin on the right side if the better option is a LHD, should we do that?? The biggest blunder KA could have done was sign a 32 game GK to a 4 year $20M contract with a NMC. We're going to have $20M to spend to get to the CAP floor next year, we're going to get a vet GK to tide us over. The better one we get is all good. Until someone proves he's a NHL GK, who cares what they think. Portillo was a roommate of Power and good family friends with Dahlin, Levi has shown zero interest in not becoming a Sabre, he's on his own timeline, this will be his last year in college. Both of them leaving is believing in conspiracy theories IMO.

VO-TT and Skinner started the year together and this is when VO had his strong start. l think this is more a test with Cozens to see if he is more of a 2 or 3C as we move along. Mitts has a higher offensive upside and they also want to push Krebs along.
