How's everyone feeling about our chances? I have been feeling really good obviously, especially with a 6 and 7 point lead with 8 games left. However, being a Buffalo sports fan, you always consider the worst possibilities.

Understood. I subscribe for a few months usually and then stop. Never in favor of posting an entire article, I just wanted to know exactly what Murray said.

Not an Insider right now, can you post the quote please?

Why are we basically up 1 and 4?

I'm glued in to every game right now. If we had the race wrapped up, it might be different, but I am so invested in 30th that I am on pins and needles for our games, Arizona's games, and Edmonton's games. It's pretty fun (and stressful!)

The first tiebreaker is ROW, second is head-to-head. Makes the games against Arizona in late March even more significant.

I'm shocked by this attitude. I'm more confident in the future of the Sabres than I have ever been for a Buffalo sports team. Whether or not you agree with tanking as moral, this was the plan. Tim Murray has been amazing at orchestrating it, so i don't think he is incompetent at all. I would argue that the Capitals are a good team and have been so since Ovechkin came up. The only reason that they are a contender (in the East at least) is because of Ovechkin (1st overall), and Backstrom (4th overall). They also picked Alzner 5th overall, and he's been good, but they'd be nowhere without their premiere forwards. It was a recognition by ownership and management that we need elite players here, and our timing couldn't have been better seeing as how god the 2015 draft class is supposed to be. Also, we're not doing it for only one player. We've already built up an arsenal of prospects and good young players that need the elite cherry-on-top. I love this plan.

Yes, it will certainly be an interesting night. We face another backup, actually a third stringer, in Anton Forsberg - while Edmonton plays Dubnyk. It'll be stressful, but not make or break.

Really? I thought he did an amazing job of designing the team this year of assuring 30th place.

If we finish 29th by 2 points, will you look back fondly on Brian Flynn scoring that shootout goal or Neuvirth making those saves? There is one goal for me: 30th. Until we have it locked up, I can't be comfortable.

This is going to be a stressful end to the season. I was so confident when we traded Enroth...

One of the best (or worst) games I've seen the Sabres play this season. Even better that it could come with a CHL win!

Zadorov and Benoit are our healthy scratches on D tonight. Meszaros in the lineup any time is great mews, but especially against the Blues. :worthy:

Exactly. Regardless of how bad the team is, we all know that we'll get points somehow. We've now beaten Montreal 3X - sometimes that just happens. I expect a solid end to the week when we welcome in St. Louis, Dallas, and NYI. If we lose tonight, we're guaranteed to gain more ground on either Carolina/Arizona (they play each other - root for OT!)

Toronto has had a rough last 10, but they built up too large of a lead to compete with us at least. They could still compete with Arizona/NJ/Columbus to get a better lottery ticket, but they're too far behind us to be a serious contender in my view.

Some news today relevant to this thread: Zadorov has been suspended for returning late from the break. I assume it'll be at least 2 games (we play EDM Thursday). Neuvirth is injured and will not make the trip out west. Hackett will join the team. Okposo is out 6-8 weeks for the Islanders. I hate to see players get injured, but analyzing his injury from a production standpoint, perhaps the NYI will struggle a bit out of the gate. His development and chemistry with Tavares has been a major reason for their success. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they'll fall of a cliff, but at least get them into the last Metro spot or Wild Card spot.

As we approach the rest of the season, I've setup a spreadsheet with data on the current situation with points as well as the schedules for Buf, Car, Ariz, and Edm. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yC34gVHNeZzyQVyqy4P1gJIQEQ4iClKhP1ceMIQmKe4/edit?usp=sharing It'll be a tight race and those two games against Arizona near the end of the season have the potential to be enormous.

At this point I may be more worried about Arizona - they are awful and will probably sell more parts off. The good news is that their ROW right now is 13 vs. ours at 8.

It's looking good for us at the moment. We need to come out of the all-star break and continue our winning streak. Something else to think about: Our ROW is terrible (or great!). We're currently at 8, EDM is at 9, and Arizona and Carolina are both at 13. Some solid ground to make up for them if they want to catch us.

It's amazing to me that we've won 9 straight games and are still 2 points behind the Oilers, who actually looked decent last night!
