I think a big part of Power elevating his draft status was his World Championship performance, becoming Canada’s go to Dman vs men and some NHLers. It was a relatively small sample size tournament, but he shined.

Judging the off-season: the big picture
French Collection replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I am willing to give him until the start of the regular season to add another scorer. If nothing is added, even for top 9 depth, then they are risking missing the playoffs and the majority of the fanbase will be wanting KA removed. -

We are all impatient and want to see a move to help the top 6. I hope this is his plan, training camps to start and see which teams need to shed salary that he could absorb. Maybe a guy like Ehlers gets moved, not that the Jets are in salary trouble, but he refuses an extension. -
The next captain of the Sabres will be/should be

We need all the new blood that is willing to come aboard. Your wife probably doesn’t have the pain of the 13 year drought, she probably sees a light at the end of the tunnel. -

Sabres signing Filip Zadina to a PTO?

He played for your Mooseheads in 17-18. -
We have lost multiple dogs and it never gets easier. The unconditional love they give you is incredible. We say our current dog is our last one because we want to do more travelling soon. There will be a hole in our lives.

The best sports example I can think of is golf. The elements can turn on a dime, especially in a place like Scotland. The field of play changes every day, pin positions, tee boxes, grass and turf conditions. Throw in the emotional response to great and horrible shots, being in contention, being near the cut line etc. and there is tons of uncertainty. It was easier to predict in the Tiger era as he was so much better than his opponents. Even in that era he would still not win 2/3 of the tournaments he played in.

The competition for ice time should be a wake up call for him. Get better at the details of being a bottom sixer and carve out a career.

Goal Scoring and the Sabres Current Forwards
French Collection replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I am hoping for Quinn to take the bumper position and watch some footage of Brayden Point and transform the PP. Quick shot, give and go, tipped passes, rebounds and feed open shooters while the focus is on him. He’s got the ability to do it. -
I see RyJo having an impact as a call up. He has the maturity and experience to step into any role. I see a possibility of a Dman traded out if he has a really good camp and forces his way into the lineup. Kulich would be my forward choice who could carve out a niche on PP2 in a call up and pot a few goals.

You have to consider that their “weak” rookie years can make up more than a third of their first 200 games. -

Around the NHL: The 2024 Offseason

If, and a big if at that, teams start using offer sheets as a means of improvement, they need to keep their own draft picks handy. That would be challenging itself due to how many are thrown around every year, especially at the deadline. -
Judging the off-season: turning over the bottom six
French Collection replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
McLeod is a solid 3C and his speed will be factor in elevating team speed during games and practices. He will probably be the go to faceoff guy, which has been a missing element since the departure of Eakin. I know faceoffs are toss up but winning a few key puck drops during the season can add a couple of points to the total. Lafferty, Aube-Kubel and Malenstyn all have speed and grit which were missing qualities in the past few seasons. I think they can easily match the offensive output of Girgs, KO and Jost. Zucker is not an offensive replacement for Skinner but his type of play and experience is a better fit for middle six duty. The offense is banking on a lot of bounce back from some core guys and improvement from youngsters. A lot has to go right for this team to make the playoffs, I would feel better if another good piece was added with the remaining cap space. -

I like the moves to add speed and grit. Team speed will be a noticeable improvement this season. What I don’t like, but can still be corrected, is the cap space not being used for more talent. A top 6 scoring winger is what most people want. I have been critical in the past of not weaponizing the cap space when it was plentiful and teams were adding assets for cap dumps. Now that they are in the hunt for a playoff spot and not using it for talent/depth is what I see as a big miss. -
A long time ago, can’t remember much about tbh.

Olympic Hockey 2026 - Which Sabres Make Olympic Teams?

Strbak could be a depth D for Slovakia. He has been good for them internationally and they may groom him for future events. -
Golf is not a Game of Perfect by Dr. Bob Rotella. Probably my fourth time reading it. My game had taken a big step backwards and I needed to de-clutter my mind and focus on what is important.

Around the NHL: The 2024 Offseason

I’m glad someone had the guts to do this. If the old boys club doesn’t like it then remove it from the game. This unwritten rule held back player salaries and movement. This adds excitement to the summer and a layer to contract negotiations. Oilers could lose two first round guys coming into their own for a 2nd and a 3rd. I thought Holloway was good in the playoff run and will only get better. How come no one offer sheets Krebs? LOL -
Or an expansion of the conspiracy theory.

Pens may try to get McKenna to keep that Lemieux, Crosby lineage going.

We are looking after someone’s dog for a few days. We have a dog and live in the country so it shouldn’t be a problem. This thing is not trained. He’s like a bull in a China shop in the house and won’t settle down. Our dog is older and likes to chill after a walk but this other one bugs her and is constantly on the go. He barks loudly at night when left alone so one of us had to sleep on the couch with him. We alternated nights. My wife puts him out for a while in the morning. She takes him for a walk and upon returning I take him for a walk. We get back home and he craps in the house. He’s done this twice now. The owners are back tonight, thank goodness.
