I hate him as much as you do, maybe more, because I just refuse to listen to him now. Every time he talks I can think of nothing but strangling that pencil neck of his. He makes me feel like Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies.

I'm sounding off against fantasy sports, not statistics.

One summer when I was in school I was a stock boy at a hospital. Constantly on an elevator all day long. People are weirdos when they are in an elevator. I don't know what it is, the strangers, the clausterphobia, or what. What I used to love to do was to be the last one on the elevator and then turn my back to the door as it closed and face everyone in the elevator smiling. It would make people visibly uneasy and very few of them ever made eye contact.

I think fantasy sports have definitely smeared how people regard team sports. Now anyone remotely affiliated with a fantasy league probably cares more about how certain individuals performed than how teams played. It rubs me the wrong way when i want to see an updated NFL score on the bottom of my TV, but I have to wait while they display all the individual stats from other games. I don't care if Joe Schmo has 5 yards on 1 carry. I want to know the score of the Cowboys game. Any NFL player can tell you about fans bitching at them for doing something that affected that fan's fantasy score. It's just asinine. They should pass a law where NFL players are legally allowed to assault anyone who at them about their fantasy team. I guess this reflects a trend where politically and socially we are moving closer towards individualism and further away from a more closely-knit society.

Thank you! Many of the Obama haters seem to forget we were told to leave by a sovereign nation.

awkward hit, but the SJ guy didn't do anything wrong

Thank you! I couldn't agree more. They also kept the British efforts in 1812 to a minimum. Then they went ahead and gave us the most iconic symbol of the USA, the Statue of Liberty. If that's not a fantastic ally for our entire history, then we need to re-assess our definition of ally.

She's about as relevant as the dump I just took.

I agree with your observations (except for the W part). What can be done? I believe many here have previously commented on jerrymandered districts being the root cause and I believe it, too. 90% of all districts are pretty much hard-coded one way or the other, so if you're the candidate/incumbentin the party that will win, you don't have to compromise. You can be as crazy as you want, and as you pointed out above, the constituents will often demand it. I don't exactly know what the details of the solution will look like, but I think the main thing is to get the districting totally out of the legislatures and into the courts.

Exactly. And Hawaii will never vote GOP and Illinois is a big stretch for the GOP. There are other examples of silliness there, so color me skeptical also.

A little context on Fargo… It was originally a movie by the Coen brothers (Raising Arizona, Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, etc.). For me it was ‘the greatest movie I never want to see again’. It was a bleak, depressing story of a bunch of depraved losers repeatedly making bad decision after bad decision. But from a black humor perspective, it was off the charts great. So last year, FX hired the Coen’s to create a series with the same feel (and in the same places – Minnesota and Fargo – although in a different time). A terrible idea on paper to be sure, but a home run nonetheless. Season 1 was just 10 episodes (with famous people), and then done. Season 2 (set in 1979-80) has a tenuous link to season 1 (2006), but none of the same actors and very little overlap plot-wise.

Good question. For some reason I was sure it at least started in 1979. Still snow on the ground but with patches of no snow, so maybe it's like March 1980 or November 1979. Did you watch season 1? If so, you'll know how this season "ends".

Solid mofofosho. But this was 1979. Sabres had a few of them back then, no?

One thing's for sure. Her earlier reflections on Camus may have been an academic exercise at the time, but now they will define her worldview for the rest of her life, however short that may be.

Anyone been watching Fargo? That show is absolutely twistedly delicious.

I'm a little partial toward Linkoping, since my cousin plays for them (Andrew Gordon).

You're probably right, but relative nobody's have come out of nowhere a lot in the recent past. I'm a moderate Dem and I'm not even remotely giving up on Bernie. By the same token, I'm not anywhere near counting out Trump and Carson. I understand it will be a long climb for them, but they've been on top of the GOP heap for months longer than anyone guessed. Here's the fun part. Take Carson and Trump out of the picture. Where do their supporters go?
-
Yeah, those were great. They were stickers, and I stuck one to the headboard of my bed and my mother was nonplussed.

Good idea. I'll try to remember that. I refuse to use emoticons.

I understand just a little no comprende it's a riddle!

Neither John Bogle, nor anyone else, has any idea what the market is going to do tomorrow, let alone the next 10 years.

Who was the EDM assistant captain that was skating with him to the bench afterwards? I think he said something on the way to the bench that settled #97 down. Wish I could read lips.

I said it mostly in jest. The first album was best, but to this day I think Hot For Teacher (from 1984) is still the best music video ever.
