Eleven It;s interesting that you mentioned religious reasons for reading Narnia. The Space Trilogy has a pretty interesting twist on religion itself. Wild Card, Yes, Kurt is the man. Breakfast of Champions - I can't recommend it highly enough.

Wow. I have some Faulkner stuff from my mom that I've never read. Narnia once as a kid was great for me, but I never wanted to re-read them (still have them though along with the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis). I like Cormac McCarthy but what I've read of him kind of depresses me. Don't get me wrong, he's great, but some of the cruelty, etc. really gets to me for some reason. His book with the wolf really fux with me, even now (All the Pretty Horses?). I bought Cities of the Plains years ago and still haven't read it. As far as re-reading, I would gladly read any Vonnegut over and over again. Planning on reading Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh again before the year is out.

Are you at least 35 cat years old as of Jan. 20, 2017? If so, I'll consider it!

No, it's pi2000.

If he was the Law and Order guy, he would say he ABIDES by the laws of this nation, not trying to "take advantage" of them. Unless he was talking about the show Law & Order. That show rocks.

"I take advantage of the laws of this nation."

I've often wondered about this. I can generally go out in the cold with no hat and feel perfectly fine. When people say most of your heat is lost through your head, isn't this primarily because every other part of your body is covered when it's cold? What if you were naked? Then what percentage of your heat would be lost from above the neck? There is also the matter of exhaling warm air. This is pretty much a given if you want to keep breathing. If this is part of the calculation of how much heat is being lost from your head, then a hat isn't going to matter very much.

You don't want to be cold when it's hot, and you don't want to be hot when it's cold.

Agreed. But having said that, the Tulsa shooting is extremely problematic.

Just my thoughts. I saw the video released by the wife of the man who was shot in Charlotte. His wife said he has TBI (traumatic brain injury). She also said her husband had no weapon. There was a gun recovered afterwards. It has her husband's blood/DNA on it. Unfortunately, suicide by cop is actually thing these days. Especially with people who have PTSD an/or TBI. The cops clearly told him to drop the weapon numerous times. That's when she told her husband 'don't do it' repeatedly. (EDIT -my impression being 'do not threaten the cops') There's absolutely no way whatsoever that I can truly grasp the reasons for why this incident happened, based on that video, but I didn't get the impression the cops did anything wrong. I don't believe that the gun was planted afterwards or that DNA evidence was falsified. What I really struggle with is the cops refusing to release their videos. I've hung out in Charlotte a ton over the last 20 years. Damn near everyone is really cool there, cops, minorities, everyone. I just don't get why the cops won't release their own videos.

So they played this tourney on an NHL sized rink, with NHL rules and NHL refs, NHL etcetera. Seems to me like they forgot about the NHL rules for tie-breakers concerning moving on to the playoffs. In the spirit of the NHL qualifying process for playoffs, they should have gone strictly by points. Give the pod winners a spot, and then figure out the other 2 teams regardless of pod. In the NHL you can have 3 teams from one division and 5 from the other, if total points dictates that. It should be that Team NA made it instead of Team Europe. Team NA had the same number of points, a better goal differential and more goals. They should be playing Canada, and Russia and Sweden should go at it again.

Evander Kane arrested on misdemeanor charge for June nightclub incident

Actually he is a Leo. -
Indeed. I wonder if this experience means ESPN never bothers with hockey again.

Good God, man. I skimmed that article and thought 110 degrees for 6 minutes is child's play here in NC. Then I realized it was CELSIUS. This is Darwin Awards territory.

Not so fast my friend. Finland hates Russia, and they would LOVE to rain on Russia's parade.

I was pretty lukewarm about getting ROR for the price tag he was demanding, also. I was okay with the Leino contract (until he hit the ice). Yeah, that one will be hard to top. I was glad Regier matched idiot Kevin Lowe's offer sheet for Vanek. Okay, we probably all were (at the time, of course). What I DID get right was that letting Briere and Drury go elsewhere for ridiculous money was the right thing to do. And we're off....

I could handle the 3rd jerseys being blue and gold goat heads.

Holy heck, that was fun. Not the result we wanted, but so close.

They call woodchucks whistle-pigs in rural areas here in NC, and there is no shame in eating them. I've never tried it, but I damn sure would!

In my case my mom and grandmothers were all Canadian WASP's without an Italian gene in them. They used to put sugar in spaghetti sauce (/shudders). Fortunately for me, my stepmom taught me how to make it. Her grandmother, who was 1st generation American from Italy taught her. If anyone here is fortunate enough to have elders who really know how to cook something that you want to eat until you're 100 years old, have them teach you how to make it now. You'll be glad you did, as will all the people you teach afterwards. I like the sound of your recipe for a quick summer meal when it's hot outside.
