Look, an owner has the right to talk to anyone in the organization, as he (or she) pays the bills. And most GMs should listen to the owner, as a courtesy. But, only the worst of the worst GMs would take action on an owner's suggestion if that suggestion runs counter to what the GM believes is right for the team. So it doesn't matter how much Terry talks to Adams. Adams, if he is a functioning NHL GM, should politely acknowledge Terry's advice and then act on what he, himself, believes is best course for the team. If Adams is failing because he is trying to be Terry's lap dog, it still falls on Adams. I'm sure that Terry has had just as many conversations with Beane as he does with Adams. Do you believe that Beane seriously considers any advice might have about the operation of the team? No. Because Beane is a good GM. I don't get why this Terry meddling thing is such an issue. Good GMs are able to set the proper boundaries with the owner. Bad GMs aren't able to do that. If Terry's meddling is an issue, it still falls on Adams. The solution still remains to fire Adams and hope Terry gets lucky hiring his next GM, like he did with the Bills.

Botts got fired because Terry did his year end review and got input from Adams. Of course Adams sold him on the idea that he could do a better job than Botts. It's just difficult to believe that Pegula is completely hands off in regards to the Bills and completely hands on with the Sabres. Especially since the Bills have been demonstrably better run than the Sabres. But let's say you're right. Adams is Terry's tool and has spent the last five years implementing Pegula's disastrous plan while Pegula hides and takes no responsibility for the team's fortunes. Do you really that Adams would stick around for that? Where's the benefit to him and his career? What kind of pathetic loser would Adams have to be to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for the worst run franchise in the NHL. It's just hard to fathom. Occam’s razor is that Terry is an absentee owner who leaves decision making to the GMs. He's not really that good at hiring GMs, but got lucky with Beane. He's heard the criticism that he's too quick to fire staff, so he's giving Adams the benefit of the doubt via extra time, and Adams is really good at spinning the facts to Pegula to buy himself more time (palm trees).

Well, Kev will then be left holding his bags.

I was only using that as an example of something Adams would say to hint that Pegula was meddling to protect one of his favored players (which I don't think Pegula is doing). But what you say is true and you have to wonder why Adams hasn't identified this as a need for the Sabres.

Adams has the keys to the car. If Pegula had interfered in any way with Adams ability to do his job, you don't think he would have called it out in the press conference? He blamed just about everything else for his failure (palm trees). If there was an internal cap, or he had to protect the owner's favorite players, you don't think this weasel would have said something? 'Jack Quinn is very important to this organization, and the feeling is that he needs every opportunity to grow and learn at the NHL level.' Adams said that these were HIS guys, who he would be happy to go to war with. He said that HE knows how to win a Stanley Cup. He said that the owner has put no constraints on his management of the team. Believe him. This IS Adams team.

That's not true. Adams signed Hall to an $8M contract during Eichel's last season. Adams also traded for Staal that year. Adams had money to spend, even with Eichel's, Skinner's and Okposo's contracts on the books.

I think Renhart was entirely on Kev. He was rebuilding the team from the ground up, and Reinhart didn't fit that timeline. I don't think the money had anything to do with it because the Sabres were under the cap and ended up taking on a zombie contract. Add another comple of million to that and you have Renhart's RFA bridge deal. Of course, being the weasel he is, Adams shifted the blame to Reinhart by claiming that he didn't want to be here, which is nothing more than a bullsh### excuse.

Kev gave some slimmy answers in that presser. You can see how he worm-tongued his way into the GM job.

Good thing Brandon Beane wasn't in the audience, because he would have laughed this pathetic poser off the podium. Funny how the Bills are a destination team in the NFL playing in the same city.
