"Increasingly Substantiated BS" rumor thread- 2014 Edition
Bob Malooga replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
Ah, yes, DMX...the greatest 'Wedding Crasher' of all-time! The good teams have been eating long enough now, they need to stop being greedy...they need to keep it real with Tim Murray, and give to the needy! -
He could at least spell "Tuevo Teravainen" correctly. lol. But I was thinking about this when they were asking who on the Sabres could be playing in the next Olympics. I immediately thought of Ristolainen and Zadorov. I think they will be two amazing pillars for this team and I do not want to trade them. Then again, I think of how many of Myers' draft-mates were participating in THIS YEAR'S Olympics, and we still don't know what we have in him, yet. And Paul Hamilton wrote..."Nobody up front in Rochester has an NHL future." (Except "maybe" Armia, in 3-4 years.) Not a single mention of Johan Larsson.

http://www.the6thsens.com/2014-articles/february/has-shane-prince-asked-for-a-trade.html "Prince is actually one of the few forwards on the Binghamton Senators who, to this point, hasn’t had a cup of coffee with the parent team over the past few seasons. Names like Mike Hoffman, Stephane Da Costa, Andre Petersson, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Jim O’Brien, Derek Grant and David Dziurzynski have all spent time in the NHL. I suppose it’s plausible that getting persistently passed over could wear on the psyche of a prospect, but he’s only 47 games into his second season at the AHL level. It’s not like he’s been languishing on the farm for a disproportionate amount of time." Certainly seems reasonable! (Ps. sorry if I didn't respond to any of my posts last week, I just got out of the hospital.) -
If this was already posted somewhere, I apologize, but I have not seen it yet...and was REALLY excited to share this... But, one of my best friend's and a former teammate, from high school, is a referee in the Olympics for the hockey games. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2014/02/03/local-hockey-officials-headed-for-olympics/5192545/ http://www.henriettapost.com/article/20140206/Sports/140209762 His little brother, if not for a car accident that broke 22 of his bones and made him be pronounced dead at the scene...would probably be at least in the AHL. (They were very close to the Callahan's, Gionta's, Bonsignore's, Collins', Rory Fitzpatrick and a few others. If not for them, Canandaigua would not have varsity hockey.)

I am happy to know I am not the only one...I unfollowed him today as a matter of fact. I cannot stand him or Jerry Sullivan, and I do not know them like you all do. Thank you for the reply. I would actually be covering football to start, because they want us to focus on one thing until we get a following and build some credibility. Plus, although I have followed hockey as long as football, I am not used to my hockey team being so bad. It is easier for me to formulate an unbiased opinion when it comes to the Bills, but I am not quite there yet with the Sabres. Plus, through my connections with some old friends, and my cousin who used to cover the Steelers and write for Sports Illustrated, I have some sources at my disposal, that I do not yet have with hockey. Not to mention, I don't want to overload myself with stuff just starting off. I sure do give these writers, reporters and journalists credit though, taking yourself out of the "fan" point of view is not an easy thing to do...especially when you are so passionate about it. But, needless to say...since seeing my cousin cover Bills-Steelers games from inside the pressbox...this has always been a dream of mine, so I am going to run with it...see where it takes me. I am confident in my knowledge, and already have 3 interviews setup (1 former player, 1 current player, 1 current scout) to start with. I plan on using this "up and coming" site to establish a following, and then I plan to branch out with my own site...of which I already have the names reserved on twitter, facebook and the web address. I plan to try and make it unique, and I want to be multi-dimensional, having a column dedicated to music, or food, cars, fashion, whatever. But obviously, sports is priority #1. I will provide more information when I have things figured out a little better. But, yes...I am trying to be a little more active within these boards here...and I greatly appreciate you welcoming me onboard. I am happy to be here, and I hope/expect to provide you folks with some quality conversation, feedback and information. Go Buffalo/Syracuse! :-) (PS. I LOVE your handle or name or whatever..."That Aud Smell," absolutely BRILLIANT, sir!) You and I tend to think quite a bit alike at times. I agree 100% and I am very upset that Quick got the start. He is not even the best goalie (this year) in LA, in my opinion. Not to mention, he has been hurt and he plays in front of an elite defense...whereas Miller has carried GREAT stats on the worst team in the NHL, and he's been healthy. If they continue to bench Ryan Miller, I would be lying if I said I would still root for them, or even watch the games...because I probably wouldn't do either. Miller DESERVES AND EARNED it, big time! But, I was thinking today...could the Penguins be wanting to trade for Miller, and Bylsma does not want to risk getting him injured? (Just a thought I had and wanted to throw out there.)

I wasn't trying to pick a fight...I just think he was WAY off base. Maybe we look at the definition of "decline" differently. But, as far as I am concerned, they left Buffalo and joined equal or better teams, and never produced like that again. Now, I do NOT condone letting good players walk out the door, especially beloved captains...but I just thought he was overreacting a bit. (And his argument is not a good or fair reason for keeping Ryan Miller.) Thank you for the feedback though...I am sill new here, so I am still trying to learn about the place. (as well as TBN, WGR and their "crews.") I was actually just asked to be a part-time contributor/writer for an up-and-coming sports website, but I am learning that I am not very good at putting my thoughts into typed words. *I mean, no matter how you slice it...their production dropped when they left the Sabres organization.

I don't know where else to put this, and I have come to realize this is nothing like TBD where you are allowed to start a new conversation about different topics...this place seems to generalize topics and lump them all together. So I have no clue where to ask this...but, it was in a Miller article, so I'll put it here. But, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News went on a rampage in an article's comment section, because someone said that Drury and Briere were in "decline" when they left Buffalo. Mike's comment was something like, "Don't let facts get in your way, its pathetic. They had career highs their last year in Buffalo. I will not let somebody use false statements without correcting them." So, I countered with this...(which has since been deleted, so I posted it again...and he will not respond.) Tell me, Sabrespace...did these two NOT decline once they left Buffalo?!? Chris Drury 06-07 = 69 pts (Last year in Buffalo) 07-08 = 58 pts 08-09 = 56 pts 09-10 = 32 pts 10-11 = 5 pts Danny Briere 06-07 = 95 pts (Last year in Buffalo) 07-08 = 72 pts 08-09 = 25 pts 09-10 = 53 pts 10-11 = 68 pts 11-12 = 49 pts 12-13 = 16 pts (Thank you, I rest my case...Eat poop, Harrington, eat poop.) *And YES, I searched "Briere and Drury" and found nowhere to post this, sorry.

Seriously, talk about having WAY too much time (and lotion) on your hands. I mean, geez...isn't curling on, or something?

I was going to ask the same thing, not sure when that is from...but maybe he is flabbergasted at the thought of that lady asking Ryan Miller if he would be able to play back-to-back games, "in such a big game." If that is the case, like I would myself, Rob Ray probably thought, "why would you ask such a stupid question, lady? It's Ryan Miller!" (Again, I don't know if he was hurt in that game, or there was something else wrong...but it seems logical.) -

Ok, my mind is blown... And is one of Thomas Vanek's ex-teammates also drawing interest? McKenzie: That would be Steve Ott of the Buffalo Sabres. We all know that Matt Moulson has been drawing interest, with upwards of a double digit number of teams inquiring about Moulson's availability by the deadline. But Ott is attracting that much, if not more attention than Moulson. Obviously keep an eye on the Sabres, they're at the bottom of the league and ready to offload people. In addition to Ott and Moulson there is the Ryan Miller scenario playing out but also Henrik Tallinder is another guy who could be moved as well as Drew Stafford and Cody McCormick. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=443030 Cody McCormick? What would he bring back...and who would want him? (Maybe it's just me, but that seemed a weird name.) -
Yup, they are talking about his tweet on WGR now...I don't think he makes the Capitals that much better. But, like I mentioned a while ago, I think Minnesota getting Miller, reuniting him with Pominville...is what Vanek is thinking about/waiting for. (That's my opinion/prediction...I just don't know how they afford it.) Edit: I recall "Noureen" being in Minnesota not long ago...maybe he/Sabres sent her to check it out, see if he'd/they'd accept it in a trade.)

So, I am planning a trip to Erie, with my nephews, to watch Connor McDavid play. Out of the remaining games left, who would be the best team to watch in your opinion? (I'm looking at London [Zadorov] and Kitchener [bailey], for obvious reasons.) Saginaw...London...Barrie...Niagara...Plymouth...Windsor...Kitchener...Sarnia?

Yes, please. This is the first step in getting this team back on track. You get someone like him, others will follow him here. (and on the ice.) But, the question is...can we wait until July, or should we trade for his rights beforehand? -
And if anyone can afford that, it is Buffalo. These are the moves they need to make if they want to annually compete, bring back local kids and become "Hockey Heaven." It all starts bringing home a leader and immediate captain, who will help to continue and reinforce the newfound culture.

Exactly what I said...he was trying to throw in Letang, but did not realize Buffalo does not need defense. Something like Miller, Moulson, Pysyk and a 1st...for MAF and Letang...needless to say, I p*ssed my pants laughing. Like I said, it is crazy, but that IS a lot of talk I saw out there...on twitter, NHL.com, HF boards, etc. But, again...they do not know him or watch him, like we do...or like the writers/experts/analysts/professionals do. No doubt, but with such good teams who have great depth...is it not worth losing a couple replaceable pieces for a chance at a cup? On a sidenote...WGR just mentioned something interesting that caught my attention... What if Ryan Miller's "8 teams" consist of the likes of Washington, Minnesota, St. Louis, etc...the only teams who would want him? Then what? (I know it is extremely unlikely, but Rob Ray brought it up and it is certainly worth discussing...if it hasn't been already?)
-
There are not enough basketball courts in New York City? (My mind just exploded!) Everywhere I have been, you do not have to walk far to find a park with a basketball court...not to mention, they're cheap to construct. As for the article itself...so much for "Hockey Heaven" being in Buffalo, eh?

Thanks for the responses...I am still trying to figure out this thing, not on often, just learned how to find my posts to reply. Anyways...I knew about Lieuwen, but not to that extent. Same with Ullmark, and I have seen a lot of prospects reports on him. I just heard a lot about Makarov for a while, throughout the last year...so I assumed he was THAT good. (I have not seen a lot of play of any of them.) Between Enroth, Hackett, Ullmark, Makarov, Peterson, Lieuwen, Knapp...I would think Buffalo has a pretty stocked stable of goalies...so, with that being said...if someone like Halak or Elliott came back in a trade for Miller, is it safe to assume they wouldn't be here long?
-
I would have to respectfully disagree with this. Looking at what others have to say on boards like this, twitter, etc...not many teams' fans are thrilled with the idea of parting ways with pieces of their future, for a 33 year old goalie who will be a free agent in July. Then again a lot of them say he has "attitude problems," which they clearly know nothing about. (My personal opinion, he is an elite goalie...he is a top-5 goalie in the NHL, and he could carry a team on his shoulders to a cup.) It is also funny to me that fans of the Wild, Blues and Pens all seem to think their goalies are just as good as Miller. Some Pens' fan was saying that Buffalo and Pittsburgh could swap goalies, but Buffalo would have to throw in Moulson and a D-prospect! (WTF?) Many St. Louis fans were saying that Elliott and Halak are just as good, rather than realizing how good their defense is. The Wild fans counter with, "But, we have Harding, and Kuemper is going to be a star." I am not saying these people are well-informed, or even pay attention...but there are just as many who think he is average, as there are who think he is elite. Winning a gold medal would shut them up quick. (and raise his value.) The mind-blowing quote..."I am concerned with Miller being USA's goalie, because he is depressed and used to losing." (WOW!) Again, these are fans who do not know him or watch him...people who do, understand how good he is. But, not all (NHL) fans think he is elite.

Just to make it clear, I have the same name on twitter as I do on here, so that is not me. But, at the same time...Enroth just signed that extension, it is the only logical choice, if Miller is moved. As for everything else...I posted all that last night to get a conversation started, which is exactly what this forum/thread is for. I see people say, "Post a legitimate trade we can discuss," so...there are some legit trades, with names, picks, teams, etc. I never said I knew anything in particular, but that I know someone who mentioned something that struck me as odd and worthy of sharing. I will admit I have a couple "connections" within sports, but none have anything to do with what is being discussed here right now. One of them IS in a city in Missouri, but it is not St. Louis...it is a scout I grew up with, who is on the Kansas City Chiefs. I did say I believed something WOULD happen today, just because everything heated up so quickly (not just on twitter), unlike anything I have seen before, including all the hype building throughout the day yesterday (which is why I hopped on here in the first place, I figured one of you would have something, if anything was out there)...but it seems nothing is "imminent," so I will eat my crow-soup for today, right now. However, I reserve the right to boot that right back up, if something comes down within the next 12 hours...as I do think something is close. The one prediction I made, as some others already have too, is...I truly believe that something happens before the Olympics. Period. Until we find out what is going on, if anything...have a wonderful day. (and drive safe!) -

This is where I stop "arguing" with you, just for the sake of arguing...because you clearly cannot read! ;-) (But yes, actually...there ARE "sources" out there who say it is a done deal...) -

Exactly, I believe Buffalo would strengthen the western teams, before they would help the eastern teams. I think one trade might set off the other, that is why I said something "BIG" (like the speculation says)...would be BOTH traded TOMORROW. Huh? Again, I mentioned this up thread a few posts ago. -

No doubt, and I am not trying to be a jerk...just saying what I know is out there, and not just from that guy. I don't have "sources" per se (like a GM or scout), but I do have people "in the know" whom I trust with information. Whether that information turns into facts, I have no clue...I will wait and see like all the rest of us, but I trust this one. -

Michael Straw Jr. @TheMikeStraw 42m What I can say right now is that Miller was offered a contract, but instead of saying yes/no kept delaying. Michael Straw Jr. @TheMikeStraw 37m If/When Miller gets dealt. I see Enroth being in a Biron-like position. Man the net as the starter until the next "franchise" goalie -
