What kind of message would this send to players battling for a roster spot during preseason? If it was predetermined to send Benson back to the WHL, was this made clear to him prior to preseason? And to insert a guy like Rousek or Biro who were clearly outplayed?

Which makes me think, what’s more valuable to his development: 40 NHL games or a whole season in the CHL? My guess is the NHL. WHL plays 68 games not including playoffs.

Tampa needs to reflect on how they got into their current cap situation. I would give him a reasonable extension, but no way would I be giving him the obligatory NTC that they usually give out to all their players. Extend him with a tradable contract.
