Sabres are definitely closer to winning a cup than the Canucks, and probably a lot of other teams that are championing mediocrity. These teams tend to be be highly stable staying in the middle for long stretches at a time. The Sabres don't have that problem anymore. We'll probably be making a strong run at the Cup in 3-5 years while the middlings will stay middlings.

Sabres are pulling away in this contest. Love it. They need to be relentless though and finish the job.

Such a beautiful win last night. Could go down in history as one of the most clutch wins in Sabres history. Almost as great as the Miracle on Ice. I'm sure you'll agree, but the end justifies the means here. I couldn't care less if they win-out the rest of their games with Ryan Vinz in goal just as long as they get that #1 pick. There's no room for moral victories in the CHL and the margin of error is going to be razor thin this year.

Oh my gosh, what's that stench!

This absolutely needs to happen. It would be a big F U to Edm and let them know they have no chance.

A pearsons correlation of 0.41 isn't a strong correlation though.

Pat Malloy - New Buffalo Sabres Skating Coach (new in October, anyway)
kas23 replied to MBHockey13's topic in The Aud Club
What does a skating coach exactly do? Haven't these players been on skates since they were toddlers? I guess I find it strange players can make it so far (to the NHL) and still have flawed fundamentals. Or, maybe they get into some bad habits or become lazy and need fine-tuning ever once in a while. -
I think it's more of a numbers game. The NHL equivalency is likely calculated on the entire rookie pool. By numbers, there's vastly more average rookies than elite ones, so the numbers elite rookies put up is just going to be completely statistically overwhelmed by the rest of their class. Players that go in the top 5 are so far off the curve, its hard to assign them NHLe numbers. You're absolutely correct though in calculating a modified NHLe. Top 5 players should be compared to top 5 players of the past only. Great job!!

Top 2015 Goaltending Prospect - Mackenzie Blackwood
kas23 replied to MBHockey13's topic in The Aud Club
Will we refer to him as Woody? -
Not much for him. But make no mistake, Darcy sees the value in Dubnyk's subtraction over what they're getting back for him. Addition by subtraction if you will. Sort of like cutting Myers in return for McEichel.

Yes and GMTM needs to get his act together. He wants to quote analytics as if the Shart can be awarded solely based on the Corsi. He needs to realize he's playing with the big boys and this is no ordinary season. He needs to realize he's up against people like Darcy and others of the same ilk. These are professional losers and GMTM better respond.

I think its strange that this kind of conversation could'nt have waited until after practice.

This is better. Carolina's 134 was wrapping to the next line. I nudged it over a space above.

I'm not sure if it's too wide, but it's basically unreadable. Keep up the great work though, many of us rely on up to minute CHL standings on our phones.

This season, there is no middle ground allowed in gunning for the Shart. You must be near the top of your game or go home. Hope GMTM realizes this.

Yep. Good game to recall Hackett and see what he has. Plus, Myers should get more time to heal.

Sabres with a Shart statement game going. We're doing our part.

I see nothing incongruent with loving Buffalo sports and wanting to win the CHL championship. How can a true Sabres fan not want the spoils that accompany the Shart?

Exactly. Ship him out.

I like this Myers-less version of the Sabres. Ship him out for Larkin and if we whiff on McEichel, we can still get Hanifin. It's a lose-lose situation!

Indeed. Sabres pick up 2 points and Edm with overtime win. I'll take it! Looks like Enroth is starting to catch fire again too. Looks like Kim had a serious talk with him.

That is quite awesome. Even better if you see him sending a wink up to GMTM and Neuvirth ripping off his mask to reveal Leino under there.

Enroth's best value is being off this team. Do anything that's possible to get him off the team, even if it means cutting him for being 5 minutes late to practice. Who cares what we "get back" for him from another team, we'll be gaining a McEichel, Strom, or Hanifin.

I guess "duds" was too strong of a word. I don't think they're busts, it's just Edm has accomplished nothing by having them. I'm sure they would flourish on decent teams, but it's just not happening in their current situation. That's why I'm not exactly convinced McEichel is suddenly going to cure all ills there. You place him on their current roster and they're still not going to playoffs. As for a trade with Buffalo, I would still not trade Girgs+Risto/Zads/Myers+all 3 firsts for McEichel. That would effectively gut our team.

EDM is in such a sorry state that one player, be it McDavid or Eichel, is not going to turn it around. They have been drafting top-6 forwards 1st overall forever and look where that has gotten them. Who would have thought all of the 1sts would have been duds? That team doesn't even need a makeover, it needs a complete facelift, from the top down. Trading the 1st/2nd overall for a complete haul of promising players, then taking Hanifin would likely do the job. Just take a look at the Lindros trade. The Sabres have the assets to pull it off, but I wouldn't even want them giving up so much to get McEichel.
