Why should he try? If this is what he was thinking after signing a $49M contract 8 months prior, then it definitely was in the team’s best interest to ship him out. No one wass asking him to be a high-paid punching bag, but no one is asking that of Dahlin either.

It seems when we have older players on the Sabres, we fear they may be a liability. When similarly aged players are on SC contenders, they are considered an asset. The right players, regardless of age benefit teams.

Who would we want from them?

I’m fine with this. Would rather these players stick around longer. If we have a new FO in place, they just might stay longer. Otherwise, I’m really not interested in adding a couple more 2nd or 3rd rounders. I think our reality has become so warped that draft picks have become a valued currency instead of winning.

I would not move any players right now. However, I would fire Adams and Lindy right now. Make Karmanos the interim GM and Appert the interim HC. There’s no reason to sit on our hands. The final hire of the new GM (which may be Karmanos) should be completed by the end of the season and he should assess our pending FAs and hire a new coach. Appert should fired at this time.

Do we really need to trade anyone away? I get that we would rather get something rather than nothing. But, do we really need an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick or another long-shot prospect? I would rather just let them play out the season.

I wonder if it’s too early for him to get some interest from other teams this offseason. If so, the Sabres may be forced to bring him up. Wonder if Ruff would step aside if this happens.

One interesting thing is what was not said. No one brought up how Eichel was treated or how we don’t treat players well. I know you can’t prove a negative, but if that was said, it’s a much more worthy quote than the tired reasons of “no playoff in forever”, “taxes”, or “all they do is lose.”

I know next to nothing about this guy, but if we take him at 3OA, is he one to even go back to juniors? Is he NHL ready? I would think even if he went back to juniors, he would probably make the jump to the NHL the next year.

Exactly. Why would we give up our best forward (one with a great attitude and signed to a reasonable contract) for another team’s overpaid malcontent?

I think this may be our only saving grace. GMs across the league have seen players blow up once removed from the Sabres. Us fans even think they are grossly being mismanaged. Even Mitts is a 0.6 PPG player and still could see him improving.

I’m fully ready to accept these kids just don’t care by the 3rd period. Ruff is a good coach. He’s definitely not incompetent, but I think he’s being handcuffed. He wasn’t allowed to hire his own assistants. But, it’s hard to completely divorce repeatedly giving up 3 goal leads from coaching.
