Not to mention the rise in premiums from having filed a claim...that one really got me when my truck was sideswiped a few years back.

I’m sleeping way better now that I’m not taking the pain pills. They want me too but that crap made my mind race so fast I couldn’t even tell what the hell I was thinking. They also gave me the worst chronic hiccups I’ve ever had. My diaphragm was spazzing out so bad I couldn’t even talk. They wanted to try something else other than the Tramadol but I just went back to good old fashioned self medicating. It sucks that you have to lie on your back but prop me up a bit and a little deep breathing to get past the claustrophobia of being tied up in a sling and I do well enough. I’m a pretty hyper active person so I’m walking 3 miles a day, ab work, lunges all over the house. Stairs. Anything to avoid sitting around. That drives me nuts and helps tire me out.

I'm six post days post op from rotator cuff repair. It hurts yada yada but I'm on top of this like a weathervane and I heal like wolverine so I feel that I'm slightly ahead of where I should be. That being said, I have another 5 weeks in the sling and whatever PT is necessary afterwards. I really hope to shock people with my speed of recovery. I'm obviously not working in the field like usual but still have my other responsibilities. Now everyone is scrambling to find a way to get me to my meetings tonight...Holy ***** folks, if you hadn't noticed by now, there is absolutely nothing special about me. The meetings will go on without me just fine. We can reschedule class as well. I'm just a ***** dumb ironworker, people. I'm like the expensive toilet paper. I'm nice to have on hand but I ain't necessary. See you all next week(because regardless of what anyone says, I'm driving next week!). Also I'll apologize to SS for spending too much time here lately. I'll heal soon enough and go back to lurking in the shadows.

That was sick.

But it was. It’s the same EXACT argument that I was making 25 yrs ago. I learned that my “bemoaning” wasn’t particularly helpful so I simply started getting involved. Your a passionate debater. USE IT, man! I agree that we should have more younger people to choose from so stop wasting your youth arguing on the GD internet with me and get out there! Call the local committees from all the political parties in your area and volunteer to help them out with stuff. At the very least your going to hear ideas and get yours heard. Don’t waste your time being cynical or my aged Lgr will be just like me, accepting that you have to work within the process if you want any success.

It should be. Enslaved for centuries, sold as property, beaten, battered, lynched. Freed yet couldn’t participate as a citizen. Back to being beaten, battered and lynched. Let‘s visit what happened to the First Americans. That was a full blown genocide. Literally. A genocide. One of our American presidents was a big player in that attempt at extinction. What was done to the native peoples of this continent by governments is abhorrent. There are people alive today who are still living with the ramifications. Shouldn’t we at least be sensitive to their condition?

Look, @LGR4GM, I get where you’re coming from. I really do. We can’t elect someone without experience because of perspective just for the sake of it. Just because someone hasn’t had the experience personally doesn’t mean they can’t take it personally. I’d take a grizzled vet that could listen to the plight and enact the change over a newcomer that couldn’t make the connections to get the job done any day of the week. That’s how politics should work. A bunch of different philosophies finding middle ground. And to my original point, if more people that felt the philosophy got involved with boots on the ground then we would have already achieved the end to which you are striving! Trust me, man. I’ve been fighting for progressive causes for YEARS! It ain’t easy. If you think it is then here is the torch, buddy.

If we could somehow quantify the brilliance and potential that has been lost to the disease of racism/sexism, we might be able to include statements like this in a discussion. Unfortunately both still exist. Exactly why I begging for more involvement from those that seem fed up with the current state of affairs. Trust me, most of these older folks involved around here are tired and are desperately looking to hand the torch off. Lots of good people(from both parties)unable to let it fall apart completely. Just think about it, if you're unwilling to even be involved at the local level, in what hands do you leave your fate? Mine too. Especially at the national level. So long as the EC exists, the true ideals of this nation will never be heard and the prevalent voice of the American people will fall on deaf ears. At the local level? Man, around here they're almost begging for your involvement. My area especially is changing. My wife and I were out with trash bags cleaning up the sides of the road yesterday and received a lot of honks from passersby. Six years ago we would receive sneers at our efforts. I take that, at least, as progress. Hopefully I see more of those same faces at some of meetings. Maybe they will participate more knowing there are like minded folks around?

I’m not saying they do, but to suggest that they wouldn’t have those groups best interests at heart is not accurate. My FIL is 73 and has been an advocate at the state level for migrant workers. Should he stop doing all the wonderful worker that he’s been doing the last 40 years because he’s an old white dude?

I forgot to include this. My apologies. Don’t assume I vote any other way just because I belong to a party. I needed to be able to participate in primaries. I actually hold an office(and have for a dozen years) in my LU and have made many motions and voted “Aye” many times for our PAL $ to go to a candidate that was running against my party. I vote for Unions because I believe whole heartedly that they are THE key to a strong middle class. Whoever helps me get there, baby!

YES! Thank God he go win some games now.

No it didn’t. You heavily implied that old white men don’t have the perspective on minorities that other groups do. That is a false statement that I could disprove countless times. Just because our president is a racist doesn’t mean all people in that demographic are. This is absolutely vital in the necessary areas and I commend you for your efforts but let’s not fool ourselves, Hillary crushed him in vote totals but that didn’t provide enough from the EC. We need boots on the ground in those places to get enough EC votes to out this current idiot. JFC. If your “beat down” by 24 yo then God help you with the rest of your life! ....on an anonymous message board. As I’ve suggested above, we need boots on the ground in key areas, not anonymous banter.

Ok. I need to point some facts out for you. (1)Wrong. The correct way to phrase this? A large part of the participating voting demographic identify that a president is an older white male. Key word? Participating. (2)Wrong. There are probably as many older white males that are empathetic to the plight of women and African Americans as any Millennial I've ever met. Probably at a higher rate too as they've had more time for that empathy to grow. You've used a very unfair and false blanket statement that does nothing to bolster your point. (3)This one really pisses me off. THEN GET INVOLVED!!! BTW, bemoaning the situation on the internet does absolutely nothing, NADA, to change things. My wife and I both volunteer for our local Dem party and at 47 and 43 years old we are the babies in the group! Where are all the Millennials with their outrage and their energy? There are literally no Millennials involved around here. I interact with that age group weekly and listen to their complaints and give them real life things they could do to help. Phone calls, door to door, etc and not a single one of them have lifted a GD finger to help. You know who I blame when a convicted felon like Collins wins a seat in the House? I'm so ***** tired of the whining. If you don't like the state of affairs then DO SOMETHING TANGIBLE! It's sad that my 43 yo wife is the social media person for our local Dem party when there is an available Millennial who is very comfortable with that platform waiting for the next white guy to win so they can bitch about it. It's sad that there is no influx of voices. You Millennials want to sit around and bitch about about the same people getting involved without lifting a single finger. ***** sad.

I’m not saying they were beautiful or even desirable women. I’ve had three different psycho chicks tailing me off and on for years. Luckily I’m older and look like ***** now so they’ve backed off. I’m sure it had to have been an infatuation with an anatomical feature cause it sure wasn’t personality they were so crazy for?
