I'd like the option to buy a phone that overall is a mid level phone in almost every way but with a great camera. Right now, to get the best camera with 10x zoom, you need to buy a flagship. -I don't need the fastest processor. For almost everything I do on the phone, a mid level phone will work. -I don't need super fast charging. I'm not on my phone all day non-stop. When the battery gets low, I can put it down and charge it without needing max charging speed. (not to mention the fastest charging usually puts more wear on the battery which I don't want anyway) -I might play an occasional game on my phone, but I don't need the processor to play super high end games at high frame rates. -A good screen is nice, but I don't need it to refresh at 120hz. My current phone has a high refresh rate and I turned it down to 60hz to save battery and its fine. -I don't need fancy colors, curved screens, super thin designs. Like many people I put a protective case on my phone anyway. -AI. I don't need, or want, AI on my phone. I never use it. If I DID want to use it I'd use it on my pc. I don't need to make custom pictures or Emojis. -AI agents. Maybe someday it will be useful, but I don't need to talk to my phone to tell it to find a good mexican restaurant within 30 miles of me and make reservations for 4, and text my friends to tell them about it. I don't trust it will do that without mistakes, and I kinda LIKE doing those things myself. But I do like having a good camera. Other than calls or texts, I use my phone camera more than any other feature combined. I know everyone else doesn't feel the same way as me, but I know there are others that feel the same way. I think if one manufacturer created a phone that was 'decent-to-good' in most categories but put the best camera on it, it would have a pretty good market, costing more than a mid-range phone but less than a flagship. Every time a new Galaxy, pixel or Iphone or anything else is introduced, it seems to me they are showing off features that are just cute party tricks. Make it work, make it last, give me a good camera. End of story.

If they are going to move on from Adams, I think they need to move on from most, if not all, of the current staff. Let the new GM come in, interview all of them and if he wants them, he can keep them, but no understanding of keeping them around for continuity or any other garbage other than that. As far as drafting, free agents, trades...I beleive that most of these guys have input. The players we have are a result of all of them. If anything, it may not be true but I can make a case the scouting dept and analytics dept. does more of the 'leg work' on selecting players, and Adams just makes the 'final' decision or is the guy that pulls the trigger. If Adams goes, I want most, if not all of them to go also.

I don't think this will happen, I wouldn't bet it on in the near future. However I do think it is a possibility.

If a team really wants him, they can take in his salary, and ship out a salary to the Sabres that is shorter term. With the cap going up, and the offseason giving all teams a chance to work the cap....again if they want him its not an issue for many other teams. My question from the beginning is....who actually WANTS him? I think his value is worth a lot less than many on this forum think.

Sabres sign Jordan Greenway to a 2 year/4 million AAV Extension
mjd1001 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
On a good team, Greenway is on your first penalty killing unit and probably ONLY gets 3rd or 4th line minutes and never moves up the lineup. He'll still probably get hurt, but I think with about 2 minute less even strength ice time per game he would be more effective AND probably have a bit less of a chance for his constant injuries. We just need some better forwards to step up to be available to take those 2 or so extra minutes per game. -
I think they all have a 'shot' next season. Between camp and preseason and scrimmages, if Levi outperforms UPL I think he is the starter, if UPL outperforms Levi, I think he is the starter. Maybe, MAYBE the coaches will lean toward the incumbent when camp starts, but it will depend on camp.

I remember when Broken Arrow came out....yeah I was a lot younger, I liked it a lot. Then, about 20 years went by and I watched it a 2nd time and....it wasn't as good as I remember. Its not always like that with me. I think True Lies came out about the same time as Broken arrow....and while it is a 'bit' dated now, I still enjoy that one as much as ever.

I'm the opposite. I think the D-group, while it could be improved GREATLY from a veteran, right hand shot legit top 4 guy....has been decent. Not good, but more often than not hung out to dry by the forward play. Power seems to have taken a step back at times, but despite his contract I don't look at him as being anything special until he gets another 100+ games experience. I think its been play without the puck by Cozens and Quinn, and inconsistent play by the goaltenders that have sunk this team more than the D-men. -
2025 NHL Trade Deadline: March 7th, at 3pm Eastern
mjd1001 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I would question why this deal...for what they offered, I would think they could have waited a couple days and maybe gotten something better for what they offered. Unless of course, this is exactly what they want. Of course, they are normally picking in the bottom 10 of the first round, and those picks are.....over-rated by most. Normally you don't get someone to contribute in a meaningful way from those picks for 4-5 years after they are drafted. And in the past 10 years, I can only find 3 guys who have even scored over 150 career goals from that part of the draft and can remotely be considered top-2 line players..Tage, Konecny, and Boeser. Even those guys you had to wait years to get what you wanted out of them, and that is about 3 out of 100 guys (maybe there is a good D-man in there I missed, but quicly browsing the draft, nothing really stood out to me) -
Old Guy Sabres Fan since Inguaral Season Rant...

I'm not going to criticize 'the tank' because I fall into the category of thinking it wasn't a bad idea..it was just executed poorly. Just Pegula always seemed to come across to me as wanting to get people to think he was a bit more clever than he was. The 'tank' was a good idea and he would get credit for it. 'Hockey heaven', well, it would make local fans like him a lot. I mean, nothing crazy, just as an owner he is a blend of that stubborn "I'll do it MY way" and "I want people to like me and when they criticize me I'm running away". -

So if its true, a little bit more than we were led to believe but whatever. A bit over 4% of the cap. No big deal. -
Sabres sign Jordan Greenway to a 2 year/4 million AAV Extension
mjd1001 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
His penalty killing slipped my mind. His overall 5-on-5 play I think is only about average for a 3rd or 4th liner. But I do think he is a very, very good penalty killer, so yeah, the deal makes sense if it happens for that price. -

I'm not huge on Greeway being a player that really helps much, but the number, if it is what is reported, is pretty affordable. -
The last 2 yeas that was very noticable. Covid was on its way out so that wasn't an excuse. NHL revenues were going up. The team had a ton of cap space. There was no reason to not find a vet, overpay them for 2-4 years to make the team better.

Sabres sign Jordan Greenway to a 2 year/4 million AAV Extension
mjd1001 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
A guess....His agent has contacts around the league, and for the most part, no one else would be willing to pay him what he can get here, or give him as long of a deal, or even guarantee him a steady spot on the roster. He simply might be more valuable to the Sabres than he is to anyone else. He is one of the more physical guys on the Sabres, but that may not be true on other teams. Plus he can't seem to stay healthy. Get whatever money and term you can in Buffalo because you might not get them anywhere else. -
What will be the Sabres approach at the trade deadline?

Is Lindy a bad coach now? Maybe. Is he a good coach now? Maybe. The players and the way this roster is put together is the issue to me. -

I think he is liked by a lot of fans because he is just more physical, but not even all the time. It seems to me like every 10 games he plays, he has 2 very good games, 3 pretty bad games, and 5 games where he is kinda just OK, but maybe gets some positive attention for throwing a hit or two. I'm OK with it I guess. I don't think having him here vs not moves the needle on this team much either way. -
If the Sabres played the Amerks in a 7 game series, who wins?
mjd1001 replied to Flashsabre's topic in The Aud Club
If they did play an exhibition game vs each other, they only way to make it fair or competitive would be to do something like this: -2 of the 3 of Tage, Tuch, and Dahlin get a day off. -Reimer plays in net vs Levi -A couple Sabres guys who were recently in the AHL get to play for Rochester. Kulich for sure plays for Rochester. You might get a somewhat competitive game if you do that. -
I'd like to keep Zucker but I'm not sure how much he moves the needle with this team, so if he's traded, so be it. Greenway has frustrated me lately and I think he is over-rated on this board, Sure trade him. I think Jokiharju is a decent 2nd pair guy and a pretty good 3rd pair guy, but this staff doesn't seem to use him that way so yeah, trade him too. Quinn and Cozens? I won't shed a tear if they are gone also. All of those guys are where I'd start. Then make a decision on Byram. I guess he is restricted, so if you don't sign him now you still can control the situation with him. But some games I watch him play and I think...you BETTER lock him up...other games...he looks like just another 2nd or 3rd pair guy.
-
I know that is a possibility. My issue though is that I am worrying that even if that happens, its not changing what I see has huge issues in his game. 1.) he doesn't seem to even try to skate hard. I think he is the biggest 'floater' on the team. 2.) he doesn't think the game well. On the 2nd last goal last night when Clifton went in deep, that was his job to get back to cover the open spot. This is high-school level stuff, and he didn't do it, he just stood there and watched. Things like that happen a lot with him.

mjd1001 replied to Flashsabre's topic in The Aud Club
Sabres would win 4 games to none. I'd guess 3 of the games are blowouts. One might be closer due to good goaltending by the Roch guy or "puck luck". -

mjd1001 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Adams: We had a trade worked out with another team, but I wasn't in the office. Another GM tried to call me to complete a trade but I was: 1.) getting my rental car -or- 2.) in that window during takoeff or landing where I couldn't use my phone -or- 3.) checking into my hotel room and I didn't want to see rude to the hotel employee and answer my phone in front of them. -
Are we talking about Quinn? I'm starting to get a bit more 'down' on him. I think his effort and 'motor' level is toward the bottom of the guys on forward if he doens't have the puck....and I also think his basic defensive coverage is probably the worst on the team (among forwards) next to Cozens. On offense he has a good shot ,but I would also put him toward the bottom of the list of guys who can generate their own chances or even put the effort in to do that. I don't want to call him 'lazy', but I rarely see him skate hard or push himself. That along with making routine mistakes in coverage and positioning....its not a good combo. I have some patience with him though, he still only has about 150 games. But he needs to realize he's not Ovechkin....he can't just float around the tops of the circle or the slot waiting for the puck to hit his stick so he can shoot it and fill the net. He needs to work more and he needs to learn defensive awareness also. We all want tougness, We all want consistent scoring. We all want full effort. I get it. But this team, when they lose usually loses because they don't play well positionally and can't think 2 seconds ahead of where the puck is. Almost every loss they have, when I watch the replays of the goals allowed, its hardly ever about lack of effort, or not caring, or not being tough enough. They do not THINK the game, they are not ABLE to think the game, or they have little awareness of anyone else on the ice. Quinn, Cozens, and even Greenway are the worst offenders. Yes, Greenway. He's tough, he hits, but I'm not sure that makes up for some bad decisions he makes. Peterka has ups and downs. Often times it is the play of the above that hurts the team. I'm not crying if any of them are moved. Tuch, McLeod, Zucker, Krebs, even Kulich. They actually play pretty well positionally and they seem to 'anticipate' the puck a LOT better than those guys above them. JJP and Thompson have ups and downs, but teven they are better than the guys above. This team needs more McLeods and Tuchs and Zuckers and less Quinns and Cozens and Greenways.

I'd also be curious because I would think the general populaton of a country like Iceland would not know enough about the NHL and the Sabres to be laughing at someone who is simply wearing a hat. In our own country, I do not think people openly laugh,or even smirk, at someone wearing a Sabres hat/jersey, Jets jersey, etc. -

Coaching, I still don't know if its the coaching or the players not listening. Either way its a problem. I did something I haven't done in a while and went back and looked at all the goals allowed last night. I don't see a huge lack of effort out there. I don't see players that don't care. What I do see is players who are out of position quite a bit, players that don't know what their linemates are doing, players who have little sense of where the opposition is, and some below-average goaltending. -1st goal: Strange formation to line up in. Byram lines up on the right wing slot, both wingers line up to the left of Cozens at center. Once the puck was dropped its was like they were all scrambling to get back to their 'traditional' positions. Cozens eventually looks like he wants to go to the right wing for coverage but he and the defender set a 'pick' making it hard for Byram to get back into the play to what looked like his spot. Basically when you look at the replay, they were lined up for the faceoff differently than where they went after the faceoffs, and the 'keystone cops' of them getting into different positions gave San Jose enough time to score. Total disorganization and a case of making things more complicated than it needs to be. -2nd goal: I put this on Greenway or Quinn or both, not sure if its a mistake or coaching. Greenway goes to cover the area right in front of UPL, but guess what, 2 D-men were already there. Instead of 'hanging back' to keep coverage on the trailer, he (as the forward) left that wide open He MIGHT have been watching #10, but then who is watching the slot behind him. It was a Cozen-like play, where the forward goes to where the D-men have full coverage already and leave opposing players wide open in the slot. Quinn was kinda floating behind the play and came in late. Its hard to say just sloppy coverage, or no real play by the forward to help out in the D-zone, they kinda just 'pick up who is in front of them' with no plan behind it. -3rd goal: UPL. They were chasing a bit, but nothing that doesn't happen often at some point to any team. There was a bit of a screen, but that is on UPL. Your goalie simply can't let in shots like that from that angle. -4th goal: This one is tough. Maybe not a big mistake but Greenway goes to the boards and has a shot at getting the puck, if not getting the puck at least getting his stick to it before the San Jose Guy. He ignores the puck and looks to throw the body and make a check. The San Jose player gladly took the hit and pushed the puck into the corner, where it is continued to be controlled by San Jose. If Greenway tried to play the puck (he literally IGNORED the puck to 'follow though' on a hit), the whole play may not happened. Might be a case of knowing when to throw the hit, or when to play the puck. In this case he threw the hit and gave up a chance to play the puck....3-5 seconds later the puck was in the net. -Quinn. 3 on one, why did it happen? Clifton had control of the puck, had an opening and went in deep to the goal line. Simple stuff here, the winger on his side has to go back and cover his spot. That was Quinn. Didn't happen. 3 on one the other way and puck in the net. Quinn isn't noticable all that much game to game, probably because he plays wing, but his positional coverage continues to be awful. A lot of people say +/- is a faulty stat, but you know what? Without looking at +/- is clear the Quinn and Cozens are two of the worst players in the league with their positioning and defensive zone coverage without the puck...and in this case their +/- backs it up.
