Paul Coffee couldn’t do it on the best teams in history with higher scoring numbers and a more open game. Bourque couldn’t do it and he’s the highest scoring defensemen of all time. If neither of these guys could do it in easier eras to score it should mean something. The fact that up to this point in his career his scoring is second to none, in a league where things like that simply doesn’t happen, should carry meaning. Just because Mel Ott didn’t end up being Babe Ruth reincarnated doesn’t mean he wasn’t an incredible player with an even more incredible start to his career.

That’s not the implication at all. You said every old record falls in the modern game. I’m trying to understand what you’re saying because that simply isn’t true. You’re trying to minimize an accomplishment for no real reason with no real factual basis.

What? If you mean Gretzky broke all the old records, then great. But there’s been few important records broken in hockey and many phenomenal defensemen between Orr and Makar who couldn’t do it.

11/25 against the Devil’s would be Savoie’s 9th game with the Sabres if he uses the full 2 weeks in AHL. 12/26 is the start of World Juniors. I imagine Benson’s next 7 games will greatly impact Savoie’s November.

Hoping someone can clarify. I know Wright went down on a conditioning stint that was allowed for something along the lines not having played x amount of consecutive games. Savoie’s conditioning stint is obviously a biproduct of his IR time, but will be still be able to use a Wright-esque excuse to do a second conditioning stint down the road if needed?

Didn’t Kane post the best USNTDP numbers ever? I don’t think they are comparable as prospects. I know you’re speaking more to their sizes, but I’d be surprised if Benson has a higher hockey IQ than Kane did at 18 to help him stay slippery.

But a lot of people DO ***** it up. Was he responsible for their greatness? No. Was he good enough to sustain them and possibly make them better? Probably. Look at the transition from Daboll to Dorsey. If Dorsey is Housley level at OC are the Bills better? Is that indicative of a good coach? Im not sure. It certainly doesn’t make him a bad coach. It definitely doesn’t make him a great coach. But it probably makes him a good coach at a specialty.

I’ve had solid wings at maybe three places down south the last 13 years. If you walk into a wing joint in Buffalo you have a much higher chance of good wings than if you walk into a bbq joint anywhere I’ve lived down south.

Housley was pretty consensus “next young coach.” His work in Nashville was pretty great. Maybe Peca will learn a thing or two from him in NY.
