Alex Tuch went from being asked to be a role player/energy guy to being asked to be a play driver and offensive leader. I think that has impacted his mental game and hurt his on-ice performance.

I don’t think so at all. I’ve played with some really skilled guys who if they couldn’t go through or around everyone they were completely lost on the ice. I definitely think there’s guys that have had to think a lot more about the game and positioning and strategy to stick with their peers and that shows in their game.

I would like to see him and the team take ownership for it. I don’t care he implied they don’t love playing at home. I’d rather him say “playing at home now is tough. Expectations are rightfully high and the teams here haven’t met them in a long time. The goal is to meet those expectations and love playing here.” It’s the same thing only it takes ownership. I don’t see a Huberdeau situation happening with Sam in the slightest. Sure, he isn’t going to be a PPG+ player for 6-8 years, but I think his style of game ages well. He’s a net front puck hound with crazy hand eye skills. As his skating declines you continue to increase his O-Zone usage. Similarly to how Vanek aged well for what he was, I think we’ll see the same for Sam, only with increased production.

This is almost always the case once a player hits the open market. Team control is a helluva drug.
