Johnny Gaudreau and Brother Matthew Killed by Drunk Driver
#freejame replied to aristocrat's topic in The Aud Club
Shocked and saddened by this news. There’s a lot on my mind, but I’ll let it at that for now. -
Reports are the Bills and Chargers are expected to be the first teams to sell 10% ownership to PE.

Personally I think it’s more like: Nobody will remember -the big saves -the huge hits -the timely goals People will remember -The Buffalo Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in 13 seasons

No goalie is worth $10M.

The phone use in the car is disgusting to me. Vehicles keep getting bigger and bigger while brains are getting smaller and smaller. We’re the only developed country in the world with a rise in pedestrian deaths.

Found it! Recently moved back to the area from the South, so there’s many more options for skating. I’ve been on the ice a couple times a year over the last 5-6 years probably, but nothing consistent. Signed up for 30 weeks of games starting after Labor Day. It’s going to be a brutal adjustment but I’ll get there. Anyone else skating these days?

I went for just over a two mile run today and boy was it awful. I signed up for 30 weeks of hockey (where’s that thread?) so I’m trying to step things up a little bit beforehand.

Celebrin, Smith, don’t know enough to compare, Dahlin, don’t know enough to compare but guessing Power, Askarov.

Taking my son, brother, and wife to the preseason game today. Expecting to make it a quarter or so with the little guy. The wife and I are going to the home opener in a few weeks for her first real game so this is more an opportunity to check it all out for her.

I’m not saying I have more faith in Mike Grier than Kevyn Adams, but I’m also not saying I don’t.

Well, I finished In My Time of Dying by Sebastian Junger and it was very good. The second half of the book examines the science and theories behind NDEs, and that got me finally picking my $1 copy of The History of Time and Space off the bookshelf. It’s a much easier read than I was expecting and has already helped me grasp concepts that I’ve long struggled with. I’m now halfway through that. I also just opened up Game of Shadows this morning, which was another used bookstore find for $0.85. It’s all about the BALCO scandal and Barry Bonds. Only two chapters in, but it’s a very easy read. Regardless, I expect if I don’t read it quickly it will probably live half read on my shelf sooner or later.

A lower sixth with Toronto at that!

I didn’t know this, good for him. The Islanders are still one of my least favorite teams for his injury. I couldn’t even tell you if it was malicious, all I know is young me was pissed.

Denis Hamel was always my great what if.

I just learned anyone can screen mirror at the end of last season. The quality is good enough for me.

I’m not sure this is the case. USA Hockey still has incentives to keep the league strong as it’s the primary competition for the development team. I think there would be some shuffling of deck chairs, but without CHL expansion, which I don’t think is likely, there’s still a finite amount of roster spots up there. Also as hockey continues to grow in the Sunbelt, I think you’ll see more and more Americans preferring to play in the US than in Canada.

This is awesome. It could revolutionize college hockey, as well as the professional level. I don’t like what’s going on with football, but more exposure for hockey the better. This would be huge for the game. I think draft rules would almost certainly be changed at the soonest CBA allow point possible.

Knowing how I am and what I enjoy reading, I’d be shocked if I made even a modest dent.

I knew this thread existed somewhere, but it’s long gone dormant. I’ve done a solid bit of reading since the last post here, but I’m about halfway through In My Time of Dying by Sebastian Junger and highly recommend it. I’m also reading Conflict by General Petraeus, which has also been enjoyable. I’ve got a few queued up next, probably The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, but I’m also interested in giving Moby Dick a go. PS: this thread reads as a who’s who of former Sabrespacers. The graveyard is more full than I remembered.

(Off-season) What’s your favorite Sabrespace meme?

Whoever could have guessed?! Certainly not the Sabres from Black Sunday-? -
Grievances should be publicly aired for all to see, especially in the dead of summer. No bans either. As we all know, Jame is still not free. Down with the mods! #FREEJAME

I signed up for my first ever tennis lesson today. I start Tuesday. Look for me in Los Angeles 2028.

For the record I think trope is probably closer to what I was looking for. I was thinking more in the Dawkins version than interest version, but I think for the most part everyone is getting the gist of it. And people think the Sabres marketing team just recently caught fire.
